  1. +1 on the tiger retro sport. Love it! Question though, I notice the kickstarter. Will it be kickstart only will it be available with an electric start?

Hi Submaniac , it has both e-starter and kickstarter , just like the Retro 110C ( cub-version)

The Retro Sport has a manual clutch ( actually it is something called "easy clutch") 4 gears, runs on benzene , e10 & e20

E-Starter was the magic word... now to convince the better half!

  2. The Honda Service Center.

Yes, they can repair the damaged fairings or so I am told (my bike is scheduled to be picked up next week after repairs, there were slight scratches on both side fairings they told me they could repair it, no need to replace them, they only told me they ordered stickers along with the damaged foot peg and turn light). Hoping they hold true to their word as they haven't disappointed me so far.

A friend had a problem with his front forks and they called in an someone from the factory to check on it (maybe because my friend's dad was a police officer and he was the one who brought the bike in for repairs).

  3. Not making excuses for the Honda bike but 300 km? Is that broken in already? Manual says the engine at 500km if I recall right. Mechanics say wait until 1000km.

As far as utilization is concerned Honda has marketed the bike as more of a sport tourer/commuter and never as a track bike.

The price gouging on the CBR250 is really going worse, I've heard some dealers are selling non-ABS for 150k now, with that price I'd rather get a Ninja. Honda retailers are hurting Honda with what their doing, but yeah TiT. Hopefully the management realizes the damage the price gouging is going to do with the product sales and do something about it.

Interesting talk with a riding buddy this evening while having some moo kata, he says he'd rather skip the whole 250cc phase, save his money and get a 600cc later.

  4. Been staying away from PTT 91 Benzine for some time now... Last time I filled it with some it sounded like the bike was having an asthma attack (didn't have a choice as I was in the boondocks, running low on fuel and I still had around 50 km left to go to reach the city limits). Bike seems to like Esso 91 Benzine and Pure 91 Benzine.

What bike do you have and carbed / injected? My engine is hig compression (high enough) and I've had no issues with PTT 91. I'm trying to stay away from ethanol blends because of rubber fuel hose issues.

It's a CBR150R-Fi, supposedly the manual states you can fill it up with almost anything on a gas pump here (Benzine 91,95, Gasohol 91,95) except for kerosene and diesel .

The engine just didn't sound right. It could have been the station's reservoir where they store fuel for the pumps had too much contaminants (the pumps were all rusty, still had analog meters and it was an old granny who filled up the tank).

Again, I had no choice as i was in the middle of nowhere and it was the only gas station I could find.

  5. You can also try G3 (053-233600), Samoto (just a few km from the Honda Service Center on Mahidol Rd.) or the Piston Shop (0819524433).

G3. Is that on Thaiwang Rd, after you cross the Ping going into town on 118?

    Yeah, it's on Thaiwang Rd.

Thanks for the directions will check the shop out (hopefully this weekend).

Honda called they'll have my bike ready by next week, they apologized for the delay since they had to wait for the ordered parts from Bangkok.

  6. I got this one at a shop in C.M. 1,800 baht. Owner gave me 100 baht discount because I've bought stuff from him before. My buddy who just bought a new Lifan 250 had them order one for him, XXL. They also have the racing boots and shin/knee/hip guards as well.

Nice, you can order XXL... Might be able to wear a regular "hoody" over it.

Planning on getting a new riding jacket (which is difficult for "bigger" guys like me since XL here is like medium in the US), where's the shop at?

Maps, nearby landmarks, directions would be of great help.

BTW, Bridgestone Battlax BT021 has tire sizes for the CBR150R and might be a good option.

Bike shops around the moat area might have them.

A quick search through the yellow pages has the Bridgestone office in Chiangmai listed with the phone number 053304692-4.

Decent riding boots and knee protectors are available at the Helmet2Home shop across the old Suriwong Bookstore a few blocks away from Pantip Plaza.

  7. My mate has now spent more on mods for his Honda CBR 250 than he spent to buy the bike in the first place!

If the weather looks promising he may join us with this bike at the BRC on Thursday.

    Ride On!

    Tony

the back tire and the exhaust look great. maybe even white is not a bad choice(as it´s said to be the new black...)

i still think there are too many different colours on the bike now. gold, bronze, aluminium, chrome, orange and even violet... i´ve only seen a variety like this on modded scooters so far.

if you need to put so many mods on, maybe it´s worth to go the extra mile and custom the parts to your bike and not to let the parts coustom your bike. all the racing teams seem to do that.

like this, somehow it looks like the bike of a teenager... but everybody has his own taste.

it´s great to see all these ideas and efforts

    happy trails

Pink with "Hello Kitty" decals just for the fun of it...:bah::jap:

  8. Just had an accident a few minutes after I got out of the Honda shop for a check-up. Won't go into details (and prefer not to... suffice to say it wasn't my fault), but I'm glad I came out relatively unscathed.

My bike is another story, needs new a new rearset and left front blinker, both side fairings slightly scratched (still choosing between replacing them or putting vinyl on them... as tomorrow's a non-working day they'll send the repair estimate on Monday).

Pissed off at first and then I realized I could have been injured or worse in the incident. Was glad to have chosen to wear a riding jacket, hot weather notwithstanding, instead of just a T-shirt before leaving home.

This has got me thinking... no matter your skill or how careful you are... SHIT HAPPENS!:D

  9. Ok, Honda called around 9:30 and said they would bring the bike back around 11:00. Got here right at 11:00 - prompt. New chain like I asked, changed the oil, using a multi-grade, then went down the "checklist" of things I had my wife give them, checking all of them off. Even washed & waxed it for me.

I had my wife ask if I could now drive to BKK at 115-120 and the guy laughed and said "No problem!".

Ok, so I'm a happy camper again.

    :D

Did you pay for the new chain? What brand did they replace it with?

  10. Looking for a skull cap helmet in Chiang Rai??? I have a full type helmet I use on fast roads, but when I go on a see see trip, the full face mask doesn't allow good look around of the sites. I would accept any look like skull cap type as even at low speed, prefer to conserve what brains I still have left.

    Something like this?

    DOT approved

    Double Visor

Last time I was in Chiang Rai, I saw some at the motorcycle shops near the Bus Station.

  11. Honda just came to pick up the bike. When I showed one of them how loose the chain was, he told my wife it's a wonder it didn't break on me while driving.

I had my wife write out in Thai everything I wanted done.

    1) New chain.

    2) Change the oil (I'm at 3,600, a little early but so what)

    3) Check rear axle to see if it is loose. I want this done because I noticed that when I slow down to 50kph or less, it feels like the back of the bike is actually "wobbling", as if the wheel is loose.

My wife also added, in writing, that she wanted EVERYTHING on the bike checked, telling them I just took a trip to Khon Kaen, and would be taking another one to BKK soon, and she wanted to make sure the bike was in perfect condition. They offered to give me a Wave to drive till mine was fixed, as it could take a week or so for them to do a complete inspection of everything. I laughed and told her no thanks, but if they want to give me one of the older 150's they have as a loaner, I'd take that. They guy laughed and said she would have to come to the showroom and talk to them abut that.

Don't really need a loaner. Got the Nouvo and Scoopy for local runs, so I'm fine. But did tell them that they could keep the 150 and bring me back a 250. That got a good laugh.

Just checked mine this morning... the chain seems a bit loose too. Other than that no complaints. Going to the service center on Saturday anyways. I'll probably have them check it along with the other things (tire pressure, etc.) as well. Probably have the biked washed/ and waxed too.

  12. My Gmax GM68S Max Helmet arrived last week from ridersdiscount with NO customs duty required, will definitely buy from them agin. Fits and looks great and loads of vents, the most airflow in any helmet according to one review I read which is ideal for over here. I tried it out yesterday when I picked up my new CBR250 and, altough it was around 35c, my head stayed nice and cool with no sweat. I only got up to around 125kph and there was some wind noise but not too much. It came with a clear and tinted visor so I used the tinted one with no sunglasses but I just read that most visors don't have UV protection so, as well as possible sunburn, there can also be some eye damage if sunglasses aren't worn. What do other folk do when riding here in Thailand, clear visor with sunglasses or tinted?

The GM68S has had nice reviews, thinking of getting one myself.

As for visors, I use amber-tinted ones.

  13. I'm sure that I will soon will be testing a Lifan LF250-19, which is a nakedbike with a V-twin 250cc engine. I'm sure I can get some sponsors for a trip which includes some of the, in Thailand available, 250cc motorcycles.

The Lifan LF250-19 is basically, a retro design bike, with all the modern aspects of a motorcycle of today. I was told that the Lifan V-twin powered LF250-19 will be positioned at a very competitive price level.

Like everybody else I cannot tell or say anything about the new Lifan LF250-19, but I would like to share the riding experiences with other 250cc riders to give and share the riding experiences of the LF250-19 in a epic ride.... destination is not important...

That's a looker... but the white and black stripes on the rear look out of place... Got any more photos?
