  1. When I'm ready to buy, I'm not too worried about price. Honda at the airport in CMX quoted me 125k for the 250. I balked, telling them that in the past 3 years I had bought and paid for a new Airblade, old model 150, Scoopy, and new 150 from them, so they'd have to do better or I'd go buy a Ninja. I got a better price, in writing, for when I'm ready to order. But I had to promise not to tell what they finally brought the price down to. lol

    :jap:

I have to say, the branch on Mahidol Road near the Airport is probably the best Honda dealer in Chiang Mai...:)

  2. I think the D-tracker/KLX 125 is overpriced for its size. If they had fitted a 125 engine to a full-size frame it would have been better in my opinion (like the Yamaha WR125/WR125X). If you're 6' or taller the bike is definitely not for you, unless you want to look goofy on road. There are better alternatives...

The KLX125 is woeful in power, literally no better than a wave or similar. It couldnt pull a larger frame IMO. The 140 can be tuned a little tho. If the 140 engine had made it into the same size frame it may have been a seller for the KSR and up crowd.

If I recall correctly, Kawasaki released a street legal KLX140L in Malaysia to cater to riders who want something bigger than a KSR. Methinks, it would have been a runaway hit here in Thailand (but it would probably also take the market share from the KSRs).

  4. Nice pics. Loved living in CM and hope to again when I'm closer to retirement.

btw Ape Honda have released a rear touring frame if anyone's interested.

Nice... I've seen several CBR-150 market side cars in Koh Chang and the other month when we cruised through Chong Thong on the Mekong, we saw several CBR-150 powered Tuk Tuks. Didn't get a photo of a one but here is the concept with a Yamaha. Sad but true!

    :(

BTW, J1V you could also go the opposite direction and go San Kamphaeng - Bosang - Mae Rim - Mae Taeng (around 70 km).

The road from Mae Rim to Huay Kaew is also nice (the one where you pass the Chiang Mai Highway Authority office)-- even surface with lots of nice turns.

  5. Hummm, I was there this morning. Wife and I both took our bikes in to check a few things out, and also took a friend along who is thinking of getting a Scoopy, but don't remember talking to anyone other than the sales rep in the showroom, telling him i want to order the silver/gray ABS, and my mechanic.

Must be someone else then... I was on my way out of the service center when a guy on a tricolor arrived with a guy on a red under bone bike (Dream/ old Wave). He said he also wanted a silver 250.

  6. yeah the bike looks nice naked but this guy kept the front which makes it look fugly, he should get another front like from KLX or D-tracker.

The Honda Sonic front will look nice on it I think.

It's kind of tempting to strip the bike naked and turn it to a street fighter.

Met a tricolor on my way home to Saimun in San Kamphaeng, was it anyone from the forum?

If it was a tri-color, and the rider was wearing black Honda racing jacket, white helmet with U.S. flag stickers on either side, it was me. If not, then someone else. I live near San Kamphaeng and to there once or twice a week, but I know there is another tri-color somewhere in this area that I've see at both Carr Four and Tesco/Lotus.

Yeah, I think it was you I talked to this morning at the Honda service center...:D

  9. Benzine 91 is always the red colour pump.

Benzin 91 has switched to yellow colour last year already !

Not in the stations I go to.

Unless it's another separate form of benzine 91.

'B91 extra - somtam injected' or something.

Thai writing stil says Benzine 91 and it's still in the red pump though.

Still red here up north... even the Honda manual has Benzine 91 in red.

B91 extra somtam injected... I wonder how the exhaust would smell with that :bah:.

  10. Red.. Those details were given by someone who works for Denso.

They have a separate Lab that test the fuel in Thailand to ascertain who is at fault in a warranty claim..

Ptt come out lowest, Esso top and the person mentioned will NEVER use PTT fuel in their own vehicle whether car or bike.

Good to hear... Likewise, I'm not filling up at any of their stations either from now on.

  11. Have you tried switching from PTT 91 benzine to PURE 91 benzine?

Do you think, that there is a big difference???huh.gif

Why are you guys using PTT. iT IS THE WORST FUEL for quality in Thailand.

Do your selves a favour and use Caltex, Esso or Petronas. All acceptable quality according to Denso.

    "...res ipsa loquitor"

I used to fill up with PTT only. Then, on a back road, low on fuel somewhere in Mae Tang, the first gas station I came upon was PURE station. I asked for a full tank of Benzine 91.

The pump guy was grinning at me and spoke in Thai about how the fuel was going to give some kick. Dismissed it as small talk, him probably just trying to be friendly -- not a lot of bike riders in the area.

Several kilometers later, I noticed the engine sounded better (I listen to the engine when changing gears and never really use the tach that much).

    Maybe thaicbr is right...

  12. Thanks.

and with the help of Electro on the cbr250.org forum I just finished spraying my pipe cover, having not sprayed anything since the school walls with snowspray aged 10.

Hmm... is that really from the Honda website? Looks like the Suggested retail prices Honda motorcycle for Thailand from motorcycle.in.th. which I think BTW are 2010 prices. Last time I went to the Honda Dealer near the airport the PCX was sold as 70+ K while the 150CBRi was around 80+K... Asked the guy who was doing the papers on my bike why the sudden price hike, he said the earlier prices were the promotional introductory prices.

Passed by today on the way home after a quick stop at Fastcorner in the city to get a tank guard-- there weren't any CBRs or PCXs on display (they've probably sold out again).

  14. Niyom Panich near Robinson's Airport Plaza have had lots of satisfied foreigners as customers. They sell Hondas and Vespas.

All you need is a residence certificate, your passport, and of course money to pay for the bike...:D Don't forget to get a decent helmet (it goes on your head, not in the basket in front)...
