  1. We can hopefully extend our visas and work permits at 7 eleven soon----coffee1.gif

Who knows it just may happen. 7/11 appears to be developing into your one stop shop. You can even report crimes there.

7-Eleven Joins in Fighting Crimes on Foreign Tourists

The Royal Thai Police have joined hands with 7-Eleven to roll out a program in which tourists can report emergency incidents to Police via participating 7-Eleven branches in popular tourist areas.

  2. [ snipped - nested auto computer discussion ]

What on earth has ECU (what ever that is) and tuning motor vehicles got to do with this topic. Isn't there another forum dedicated to cars and petrol heads. ECU and reflashing please speak english so us non grease monkeys know what you are talking about or take it over to the car forum.

Not too hard to do a Google search to identify the ECU term: http://en.wikipedia....ne_control_unit

They're discussing clearing/resetting (reflashing) the memory for a car's computer(s). They got into this discussion, I believe in discussion of the crash Ferrari's EDR (Event Data Recorder - http://en.wikipedia....t_data_recorder ) which would, if it exists, could have recorded the Ferrari's speed and other parameters at the time of the crash. Someone said that the EDR was associated with the ACU (Airbag Control Unit - controls airbag deployment/activation when triggered). I haven't the foggiest idea where or even if the EDR function is performed on this model Ferrari although I would bet that it is.

It can be deduced from this collision case: https://www.accident...r/apr03/edr.asp that one model of Ferrari had EDR functionality as early as 2002. Discussion of the EDR functionality relates directly to this thread because it could be used in court as evidence.

    Hope This Helps

It may not be to hard to google but why should people have to google and translate the riddles on an open forum? Speaking in riddles and text abbreviations turns the topic into a private conversation between a select few. In plain english lay person can read a few lines in seconds, when he is required to google it can take 10 minutes to translate all the riddles.

  3. And Déjà vu all over again... violin.gif

Could we just sum up most of the main topics and move on?

    1) Rich Thai kids always get away with murder, no matter how many people they kill driving, shooting, stabbing...

    2) Some Thai cocktails contain DEET insect repellant, which is poisonous and can be deadly...

    3) Flood prevention does not work...

    4) Taxi Complaint Hotline will soon be closed, because due to the massive feedback it causes "puat hua" (headache) for the officials in charge...

    5) Thai traffic is mega-dangerous and most taxi, truck, bus and mini bus drivers are a$$#oles on speed and chances to die as a bus passenger are 50/50. 60/40 for death on visa runs...

    6) Life is a b!tch and then we die... drunk.gif

Are you advocating for the closure of Thai Visa?

  4. Not wishing to make light of suicidal speeding in bangkok, but you have obviously never driven a ferrari. More than capable of reaching well over 100 MPH in very short order, and still has the capacity to brake in short order too

And I think that sentence just about sums it up, I know nothing about the capabilities of a Ferrari, but I suspect you are correct in saying that they are more than capable of reaching a 100 mph in short order and also has the capacity to brake in short order.

I believe that these high performance cars are designed to be driven on roads designed for high speed driving, not city streets in Bangkok, London, Milan, New York or where ever, they are probably also designed to be driven by someone skilled in driving a car with this power.

I don't know this guys capabilities in respect to this car, his state of mind at the time of the incident, or what actually happened, but I do know that a human being lost his life and rather than face up to his actions at the scene, he ran home to daddy.

It says a lot about the mans character and his willingness to accept responsibilty. A 27 yr old grown man who has to run home to Mummy and Daddy for protection. He is nothing more than a little child in a mans body and this child is a managing director of a billion dollar corporation. This says a lot about the company, the CEO and Board of Directors. I hope the Board have the balls at an urgent meeting and dismiss him because he clearly shows that he is not mature enough to accept responsibility.

  5. As an ex serviceman my condolences to the families your men will never be forgotten. Lest we forget.

Afganistan is a pointless war and will never be won, when the troops pull out it will return to what it was. The war is a tragic waste of life.

Australia had it's largest wartime casualty rate last week since the Vietnam war, with 5 troops losing thier lives in one day. The sad thing was thier sacrifice was completely ignored on T.V world news, they were completely ignored and considered not news worthy. Two American soldiers die and it makes the news. I think all these fine men and women of all the allied countries deserve equal respect and lets not just remember those of one nation.

  6. So you get 3 warnings then prosecuted (fined) on the 4th offence. Sounds ok in theory but actually charging someone may be more difficult. 4 people ring the hotline and complain about a particular driver and he is issued a fine fair enough. What happens if that driver elects to fight the fine in court? The prosecution will then need all 4 complainants to make a statement and actually give evidence in court as to his identity. You can't prosecute on hearsay and will they all be willing to give evidence against a member of the taxi mafia?

    off topic -

Taxi drivers in Melbourne fight every penalty notice they recieve. In court the magistrate doesn't have the power to take demerit points so even if they lose they pay the fine, they get a history recorded which you don't with a penalty notice and keep thier points thus keep thier licence.

Why can't you prosecute on hearsay in Thailand?

Do you know what hearsay is?

  7. If that excuse for a man had come to my father/brother/sons funeral ,I would not be able to refrain myself from ripping his head off!

Quite true that would be like a slap in the face and a kick in the genitals to me. Like ha ha look at me I am so compasionate and you must forgive and respect me. The media entourage following him like some celebrity and depicting him as a remorseful little angel, talk about adding insult to injury.

Then the stupid comment of He did not flee the scene but simply went home to consult his father (Hey dad how can we cover this up). If he didn't remain then it is plain and simple HE LEFT the scene. Does he lawyer really think the population is that bloody stupid and will suck this up and simply say oh that is ok then. Are the judges that stupid and believe a 27 yr old grown man had to go home and consult with Daddy?

  8. The story shows the total disrepect that Thailand has for the female population. What the guy did is disgusting but what is even worse is the attitude of the authorities towards his conduct. The issuing of a meager token fine and simply moving him on to another hunting ground is beyond belief. Women in Thailand are treated as 2nd class citizens. How many men have wives and 1 or 2 girlfriends on the side that even the wives know about and simply accept as the norm. How many women are in positions of authority such as sitting on court benches, holding senior police and military positions. The women in the police and military appear to be treated simply as personal assistants to the general and tea ladies not actually holding any form of command or involved in decision making.

Yes some will say the the P.M is a woman and that is true but before you attack me ask yourself, were you one of the knockers on previous posts that say she is simply a puppet for her brother.

  9. 3 warnings, are these warnings recorded on a data base so that the authorities can check that they have been warned before or do they simply ask the driver how many prior warnings he has recieved?

Logically you would assume a database, but the entire campaign might just be hot air.

    Yes logical but TIT

  10. until the double pricing is still on I have no reason to go to national park. In my country its the same price for everybody.

That is the reason we do not visit the parks. There is absolutely no reason for it apart from plain and simple racism based on someones appearance. I know personally that other asians can enter at Thai prices. Had friends from Australia (Chinese decent) entered at Thai prices and I at farang price. Yes I know this is Thailand and I don't have to enter, and I don't enter.

Anyway selling tickets at 7/11 is a good idea and will assist locals who will become aware of it. What about the international tourists, will they still sell at the gates in future?

  11. The arrests have been made - the punishment? What's left of the 2M will be passed up the food chain, they will pay about 10,000 baht fine and if they are red shirts (absolutely) they will get a suspended sentence or house arrest for a month and demoted (until the next internal assessment), when they will be full reinstated. ohmy.png

And what sort of punishment would they get if they were yellow shirts? Are you insinuating that the elite hiso yellow shirts are dealt with more harshly?
  12. I would be to terrified to go to an islamic country and to afraid to speak in case I offended someone unintentionally. I will stay in the safety zone of the west and S/E asia.

It's very possible to offend someone unintentionally in a non Islamic country and receive harsh punishment..........nuff said.

If I took my 5 yr old son to Australia and he unintentionally said something about jesus that someone did not like nothing would be done. If I took him to an islamic country and he unintionally said something Mohamad he would be publically executed or lashed. The girl in this story probably has absolutely no idea as to what she did wrong or why she is being severly punished. Entirely different standards between civilized developed countries and those countries and peoples that are still thousands of years behind civilisation. Just for having this opinion I could be executed in an islamic country.

  13. I would like a wife.

    Where do I go?

Is here a checklist or requisition form I need to fill out?

Stay away from the bargirls. There are plenty of lovely honest women in Thailand. All the horror stories you here appear to be the result of farangs being snag by a girl from the bar. "Your so sexy and handsome" and they are hooked like they have been placed in a trance and no turning back until they are no longer useful.

  14. The penalty was suspended for three years and the teenager is banned from driving until she is 25 years old.

This means no penalty at all.

She can drive anytime she wants, and pay the 300 bahts fine if stopped, and then continue driving in the next breath.

Do you understand what a suspended sentence is?................coffee1.gif

I don't think he/she realises that she has to step lightly for the next 3 years. If she is caught driving in the next 3 years she will breach her suspended sentence and actually do the time in prison. If she is caught doing anything ilegal in the next 3 yrs she may very well find herself doing the time.

  15. The pyrethrins are a pair of natural organic compunds normally derived from Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium that have potent insecticidal activity. Pyrethrins are neurotoxins.

So pyrethrins is deet? ground mozzie coils are DEET?

And Chooka before you bang your drum and the I Told You So Chorus joins in with what those misguided youth wont do, how do you know that they asked for anything more than a good cocktail.?

    Right you don't

PS for those of us who avoid speculation of Leo dwellers, we never saw that post - about mozzie coils, nor saw the attacks on it. Get that chip off your shoulder

My deepest appologies, I never intended to offend you or even direct my coment to you or any person in particular. All I was saying was that some became insulting and suggested that those that mentioned that thier drinks may have been spiked in another thread were labled nutters with conspiricy theories by those that were more educated and informed. I never infered in anyway that they asked for anything nor did I point any blame towards any person/s.

Again my deepest appologies and if a moderator is available I would request that they remove my post at #3 as it appears offensive to some. To all that found it offensive my deepest and sincire appologies.

I see no malice in your post towards anyone or any reason to appologise. You just have to watch your words on here because some may truely believe that you are refering to them even if you are not.thumbsup.gif cheers
