  1. There is a lot to be said for soft . . . and smooth.
  2. "She was charged with snatch theft and is now in the custody of the Samran police. " It's the favorite MO here in Thailand
  3. I pay 100Bt. Pretty much the same as the OP gets at home. #2 shoe around and around then some final clean up with the clippers and razor. +/- 10 minutes. For all the extras you got (plus 1.5 hrs. of special attention) that is probably not completely out of line.
  4. Thai people don't park - they just stop driving. The truck is not moving and at a dead stop. The poor woman just flat out runs into the back of it and, not having a helmet, bangs her head and passes from this life. The law and right and wrong won't have much to do with it. It's a shame about the lady.
  5. At a minimum, you ought to be isolating yourself from anyone else for the next week and get some testing done as well.
  6. Stay away from the television news (it's absolutely toxic) and you guys will do fine. I miss Thailand. Fifteen years I was there. I miss the social aspect of it and all the many friends I had there, both Thai and expat. I've tried to reconnect with my friends here but it hasn't worked for the most part. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. The pandemic has only made it harder not to mention the difficulty going out anywhere anyway during the past couple of years. I'm glad I'm not in Thailand at this time however. Simpler here but not as much fun. It will get better. At least I hope so. Jai yen yen.
  7. OP - you were coming across as an upfront guy who had an unfortunate accident. Not so much anymore. Winny little <deleted> comes to mind now. You have been given good advice several times here. Good luck out there.
  8. Using $US @ 33/baht - 20,000 Bt / 33 = $606. I think I would be happy to see this problem behind me for $600 bucks. No fuss, no muss, no lawyer, no civil courts, done and dusted just like that. And you get to sleep like a baby. Talk them down if you can but go in there knowing that is your max loss (at least on car #1) and you will be a happy man. Good luck
  9. I have an envelope taped to the front of my refrigerator that has all of the info and contact information that anyone would probably need. It includes the phone, email, address, etc., for my daughter back in my home country, embassy information, the contact info for a couple of trusted friends (with their permission) in Thailand, copies of insurance docs, passport photo page, etc. I frankly don't remember what all info I included but I would think it would mostly get someone sorted should things go south or an accident which is the more likely event. Also, I have told several people about this envelope so that those trusted friend will know where to look.
  10. ^ I agree. This has been the story for some time. In the next 60 to 45 days another 60K people are going to die who don't need to. Today they are as healthy as anyone reading this text and then they will get sick and will be begging for help. Sad, stupid, silly - pick your description.
  11. I've lived in HH for a number of years. Certainly there are some Frenchmen there but not all that many. I'm not sure about the need but I don't have a dog in the fight so good for them I guess.
  12. I don't know . . . I've had vehicles roar past me (so as not to have to take their foot off the gas pedal even for a second) only to slam on the brake in order to make that left turn and I would have slammed into their rear and everyone would have said it was my fault.
  13. ^^ Good Gawd mate, how hard can this be? Then get someone who does speak English to ask your niece in Thai language what everyone wants to be called and that should sort it out for you.
  14. In the old days . . . and I'm only talking about a couple of years ago really, pre covid, it was a real ball ache for me to make my way to Thailand and - good gawd - look at it now. It would take me some 30 hours to get to BKK including the layovers. From confederate America to Dallas to Incheon (or Tokyo) and then on to BKK. I would spend a night there and then I still had a 3 hour bus trip to my final. Not to mention it was visa exempt. I ended up living in the Land of Smiles for 15 years. Fluent in Thai and Issan and more friends there now than back in the States. I would not even begin to know how to go about getting all the stuff that is required to enter now and certainly would have no desire to wear a mask and do all the testing and lord know what else and what can go wrong. I hate it but another trip to Thailand looks to be a long way away.
  15. I was never a big fan of the caddies as I thought that, for the most part, there really were not very good at being a golf caddie. The men who did that job were good however. I had the one caddie who would stop by my place before she went to golf course and we would do the wild thing or we would go to a love motel after the round and then she would go home to her Canadian boyfriend. Now THAT is my kind of caddie.
  16. I never had any trouble with finding a job - I had trouble KEEPING a job
  17. All those things you have labeled as "poverty" are things that YOU as an adult American male need to work to avoid, work around, and overcome to provide for your family so that they can enjoy the good stuff about America. Many millions have done it and are doing it everyday. If you are now living full time in Thailand that might suggest that you have all ready done it once and are now enjoying those efforts in that country and do not want to make that effort again. Fair enough. But you will have to do much the same in Thailand in order to take care of your child. It will be different but not necessarily better.
  18. They walk away with your 10K and you say nothing? And then don't even report it to the bank? But are willing to take it up with your USA bank immediately? Sounds mighty queer to me. I'm not sure I'm believing any of this. Your hope for pics/video from the CCTV is going to go away fast me thinks
  19. "many other countries " What you call many and what I call many ain't the same many . . . .
  20. I had no idea I was spending that kind of money . . . . . !!
