  1. Neither nor, as you are simply 20 years to late.

Both places are rip off too, very unfortunately.

Also, most people are not going to the beach anymore afer a few years,

while you realize all the negative aspects of living in a prime tourist area with only

money in mind and very little choices regarding to the rest of the kingdom.

Thailand is still great..... somewhere else.

  2. It's easy to find in Georgetown/Penang, if you get there occasionally. For Samui, there used to be an indian restaurant supply shop on southern Chaweng beach road.

Located in a little soi, across from Chaweng Resort, on the left hand side. Otherwise you can ask one of the indian/nepalese tailors

  3. 101 views and not a single reply. So does this mean that there isn't one single decent boozer in Had Yai :o

Try post laser disc the banboo bar or the swan, there all shit but there the ex pat bars i think.

Swan and post laser aren't that bad. Food 'n drinks inexpensive and they are located right in the centerof HY. Good muslim restaurant is across from the King's hotel (hotel not to recommend though). Many of the hotels offer great value breakfast buffets (Novotel,Regency, etc.)

  4. Mr. Chans and Ms Pauline's. True Thai/New Yorkers. Great pizza.

Ate there a few weeks ago - Standard Thai-pizza with stingy topping and under-cooked dough. bah.gif

Get REAL NY-pizza, go a further down Canal rd to the Samoeng intersection and try Pizza & Pasta - BEST

Good pizza indeed, but I think it's closed or they have moved ? Mad dog's is good too, but too small sizes.

  5. Beng - a very one sided description of all of those places.

Phuket, Pattaya and Chang Mai - you only mention a few insignificant positives. Samui - you only mention negatives. (By the way -some of your positives are wrong!!!) Not a well balanced argument. :whistling:

    What is your motive?

Tropicalevo, what I'm saying is, Samui has no gov. airport, infrastructure, stable power supply, tabwater supply, etc. All the basic features of a world class destination are missing.

That doesn't go along with the, very high costs, compared to other places in the kingdom.

  6. It was only word of mouth, that brought the first foreigners to Samui in the late 60's early 70's. Samui was a place to recommend.

The situation has changed. Nowadays, Samui gets people through travel brochures and TV ads.

In contrast to other destinations in Thailand, like Phuket & Krabi ( good infrastructure, power supply, gov. airport), Pattaya (cheap accommodation, many choices) or

Chiang Mai (very civilized, good climate, clean and reasonable priced), Samui fails to match any of them and offers the least for the most money.

The local islanders could get away with their prices, mismanagement and ignorance for quite a while.

But in times of globalisation and the internet, plus the financial crisis and a fierce domestic competition, it doesn' look good for them much longer.

  7. 130 Baht for a Heineken?? blink.gif

Its a proper rip off aint it! laugh.gif

The whole island is a rip off.

the whole island is not a rip off.

I went to Honda yesterday to get a new seat clip fitted, and it cost a staggering 138 baht fitted

Had whole new seat fitted to a Honda Wave in CMX for 250.

  8. depends on the whether.

i know that sounds a bit silly but a heavy down poor could come at any time. only need a few hours and the road shall be flooded due to high tides.

If you look at the beach the water it right up which means that the floods cannot leave the island till the tides take it out.

so when the sky changes to dark then you'll need to be on your toes.

Worst affected area will be south Chaweng and Laem Din for shure. I wonder, that people are still renting shops there.

They rent the shops from the people that left after they got flooded. Keeps repeating itself.

True, they are still being able to find another idiot. But this will not go on forever.
