I think that there is no doubt, most certainly Thailand was a better country from every aspect in 2021. Let's hope it will be the same in 2022.

It all sounds just tacky and greedy......
Unfortunately most of the money will not come from foreign tourists, but mainly from poor Thais, which could end up in an economic disaster

They will if they can see $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
Every country weighs the pro and contra of any action like opening casinos. I am of the view that for Thailand it would be a huge mistake to open legal casinos. Knowing a lot of people here, such a step would only add to the national private debts, which would end up in an economic disaster.

But culture is NEVER more important than freedom.
I totally disagree.freedomof expression and other freedom forms are most important, but always within a country‘s and national cultural accepted limits. One can‘t destroy a nation’s culture in the name of freedom.

If you haven't been issued with a Thai passport you're a tourist.
Not so! Even the strict (in my view incorrect) interpretation, says "residents of Thailand" which naturally means also foreigners residing here, including, of course, Permanent Residents. If they meant only Thais, they would have clearly said so, as they do on other restrictions.

The current one will be replaced by one with a new mutations/variants, as is being seen in Spain, Africa and part of Euro.
This will continue for several years, and booster vaccinations will be required.
Cases will surge and deaths will continue especially in the unvaxxed communities, and in vaccine poor nations
We all, wherever we are, will have to learn to live with this awful Corona virus with all its old and new mutations. Vaccinations, including boosters, and all other precautionary measures will be of great assistance, but although absolutely necessary, will not eradicate the virus. Opening up, albeit in a careful and orderly manner, is an absolute necessity, as one can‘t close up the world wide economy for ever.

You will need the $50,000 (previously $100,000) covid 19 insurance when you enter the country valid to the day your current extension of stay is valid.
Are you sure that the insurance is limited to COVID only, or we are talking here about a general health insurance?

I am actually flying on the same flight number and I called the airline and asked them the question and I was told that I would need to pay an additional $475.00 USD to stay on the plane and follow on to Bangkok. I only paid $485.00 for the 1st leg from USA to Dubai on to Phuket so needless to say I will spend a night in Phuket then move on to BKK the next day. I am not paying that type of $$ for a connection to BKK.
What you are describing is normal for airlines, who look for ways and means to enhance their income, when given the opportunity. Try and change departure or changing a stop over for a stay of one or two days, and you find yourself paying through the nose for it.

what has happened to the COE as well as the Thai Pass? Have these been done away with, or are they still required?

Not SHA, must be SHA+.
When I search for one on Agoda both were advertised.
Only SHA+ can provide you with SHABA code you need for your COE
The new regulations do not require a COE, nor a Thai Pass. Is it not so?

We'll have to live with covid...What do you suggest? Shutting down FOR EVER? All Thailand can do is mass immunization and exercise the controls as they doing. You have no right to critise or make gloomy predictions without offering a better solution.
How right you are! Look at other countries including Australia, USA, UK and others. We all have to learn to live with this awful epidemic and be as careful as possible. We have to find the correct balance between being careful and keeping the country going.

And most Brits are vaccinated but infection rates going through the roof.
If PM Johnson decides to lift all precautionary measures, which he has done, then one shouldn't be surprised. Opening the country, opening the economy, shouldn't mean not being careful. Some measures, like wearing masks, keeping distances, not allowing full stadiums and theatres and other measures, are still necessary and will remain so for a long time, maybe years.

Look at Russia, nice and cold, COVID deaths at record levels. Europe - not so cold, not yet anyway - but it's coming.
What you both are doing here is telling a half-truth and taking news out of context. The numbers in Germany are still high and slightly increasing, but Germany has been largely opened, encouraging vaccinated people. The numbers in Russia are awful indeed, but you don't say why. The reason is that most people, particularly in Moscow are not vaccinated, as most Russians don't trust the available vaccine.

Nothing firm was announced yet. Seems people are being kind of stupid at this point since there is no firm commitment as to what the new requirements are. The embassies have no choice but to advise them on the current requirements.
The latest news are that a clear announcement will be made within days, hopefully this week. Obviously, as no definite announcement has been made the embassies/consulates have to go by existing regulations regarding COE, hotel quarantine etc.

It's already a failure. People make their travel plans ahead of time. November 1st is now only two weeks away and confusion reigns. They're still telling people to use the tracking app that doesn't work. They said "no quarantine" for vaccinated travelers from selected countries but now say one to two days of quarantine and can't decide on which countries are actually on the list. If they wanted to save this high season, clear rules for entry would have been in place two months ago.
I fully understand and appreciate that certain precautionary measures are necessary, such as full vaccinations, tests, Thailand Pass and insurance. However, what I really can’t understand is that even now, 2 weeks to go to November 1 there are still no clear rules. How are people supposed to make plans for a journey to/from Thailand?

Re-entry permit, insurance for $100k.
Possibly make covid vax passport (yellow certificate)
BritTim has a Thai yellow certificate, but how and where did he manage to get an du approved vaccine pa sport based on the Thai one? I would be grateful for details about this, as I also intend going to Europe soon and returning beginning of December and although I have a yellow Thai vaccination certificate, I hear that I may face difficulties there with only the Thai yellow certificate, as in the EU one needs a so called green Pass. I am fully vaccinated with 2 x AZ.

You can trust them as far as you can throw them goes on the saying.. strangely enough, governments don't operate on a premise of trust, only what is perceived to be good for the government/people on the day...
I fully trust the government wishing to do what they say they intend doing. However, one doesn't and can't know what is going to happen between now and November 1. If the present tendency, which indicates a reduction of infections, continues, restrictions will probably be, at least, partially lifted. However, if infections rates increase, I am afraid this may not be the case. I also intend travelling to Europe, if possible, in November, but will not make definite arrangements till November 1.
