  1. Thai tv is not alone in being cr*p. Look at the UK, Big Brother, Celebrity this, that and the other, Jeremy Kyle.

Soaps? Coronation Street? A north western mill town with no south asians? Have you been there lately? Emmerdale Farm? All of the women are (fairly) pretty, and, of course, the sun is always shining......

My (ex) sister in law is an educated person, but she still thrived on the Thai soaps - it is a form of release, I think. All the same, they do my head in, too!

  2. I have seen CAT putting up a lot of new lines and electronics in the Land and House Park area and on both Chao Fah Roads in that vicinity over the last few weeks, TOT and 3B also pretty active. Does anyone know what is going on?

  3. Try and get a seat in Fatty's after 18:30 !!! Crap restaurants don't get much return custom, that place is always full. None if it is passing trade.

Best Sunday roast - Happy Days on the Chalong pier road, about as close to what your mum could make as makes no diference. Yorkshire puds to die for. Now she has a new beef supplier I've switched back from the excellent pork. I would say, though that the rest of the menu is ordinary, at best.

Whole Foods at Nai Harn, expensive, but dam_n, that has got to be the best "sandwich" I have ever had.

What happened to Chues?? Has he moved?

  4. I bought a couple online from "latexinovations" in Bangkok. Half the price of the Phuket shops.

I have a 15cm, the spare bed had a 10 but we ended up putting a 5 on top just to make it that little bit more luxurious.

Best night of sleep you can have!

I have no affiliation to this company - I'm just a very satisfied customer!

  5. SamritT, the beaches have been getting ruinded by uncontrolled and over-developement for years. Raw sewage, touts, unprofesional parasail and jetski operators.

Piengrudee, you are a racist. Farang, Farang, Farang. All we want is the oil - just like Iraq. Do not tar us all with the Bush/ Blair brush, please.

There are already wells in the area talked about here, you can not see them because they are on the sea floor.

Exploration is not only drilling. No oil company drills before it has completed a comprehensive seismic survey of an area. Last year I was working on one of these surveys - actually two, one to the north and one to the south of Samui. The one to the south was completed without incident. There was complete co-operation with the local fishermen and authorities. The one to the north was abandoned due to these fishermen causing too many problems. Why were they causing problems? Easy, the money the oil company (Thai) paid to compensate them for their lost revenue and inconvenience never filtered down from the authorities who received it. So.. A few greedy individuals have put paid to a valuable source of income for locals and Thais nationally.

Our company had to complete an environmental impact study efore we even began our survey. Interestingly, one of the questions asked by the authorities was 'how much pollution our ship's engine generated. Normally you would be hard put to see much exhaust from our stack. The ferries operating between the islands and the mainland, on the other hand, can be seen belching thick black smoke from many miles away. A case of double standards for sure.

Graft will be the death of this country not an oil spill.

  6. I'm probably days or even weeks behind here (I've been offshore), but if anyone who does not already know and is interested, Mr Chu's is now to be found near the Sai Yuan turn on the Chalong to Rawai road on the west side of the road (right hand side as you go to Rawai, in a single story shop in front of a condo).

He used to be down near the Chalong pier stuck, rather uncomfortably, between a couple of bars.

I have only eaten there once but it was extremely good - value, portion size and taste.

Also, and I know this is on another topic thread but.. had the breakfast at Kallots, in Rawai, this morning and I would have to say that it was definaltely one of the best breakfasts I have had on the island (or off it for that matter).

I'll definately be back for a feed at both.

  7. I had muscle pain in my lower back after sitting for only a few minutes - visits to a chiropractor sorted it out - for a while, but when I returned to work I would get the problem back again in no time at all.

The chiropractor I visited had a web site with some links to alternative medecine suggestions and one of them was something which seemed very off the wall. I was, like most people, sceptical but thought I would give it a go, lo and behold it sorted me out in a few days, my back is now about 95% right.

Now, I'm going to set myself up to a heap of ridicule with this suggestion, but, like I said, it worked for me, so:

Have a look at this website: www.copperhealth.com/coil_instructions.htm.

It is for something called a Lakhovsky Coil.

And please don't ridicule it till you have at least tried it!

  8. I'm all in favour of saving money - I'm married............

And Martin'd money tips website is great for The UK.

  9. Have a look in Pleunjan 2 which is on the right exactly 5km east of The Heroines Monument. (1 km past the Yamu turn).

There are some semi and detached houses for rent in there. Nice and quiet. Some nice people.

I have a house for sale in there - not for rent, sorry.

  10. Hi, anybody know the status of the airport at the moment? Mayhem or normal?

Leaving tomorrow evening for Bangkok and then on to Paris.

How are the queues at check-in and immigration around the late afternoon and early evening?

You know what it is like, arrive 3 hours early and fly through in 10 minutes flat.

Arrive 2 hours early and barely make the flight!

    Sod's law.

  11. I went to both nights of the first and second years. Fantastic!

Unfortunately I've been offshore for the others and have missed out.

I don't know what the audience numbers have been like since, but I always thought that the event could have been marketed much better - certainly more info to the travel companies in advance, let the tourists know it is happening well in advance. Get the posters and fliers out to the hotels, too.

  12. I would second Latex Innovations.

I bought 3 mattresses from them, non-standard sizes were not a problem.

Much cheaper than the shops in Phuket and fast delivery (costs extra, though).

dam_n comfortable, I don't think I would go back to sprung types again.

    :)

  13. I play at th Banyan Tree but it is very overpriced - as are all of the courses here in Phuket. There is, however a new course called 'Phunaka' (I think), the entrance is just to the north of Wat Chalong, where the road to the mountain top radar station is. It is only 9 holes but a friend told me it is pretty good and very good value. I must have a go myself sometime.

  14. Chicken Green Curry pizza at 'The Cook' in Phuket Town.

    Bootiful.

I remember from many moons ago, 'The Pizzeria Hut' just about where the new shopping center in Patong is now, was very nice. I believe they are still around but I don't get to Patong much now so don't know their location.

Anyone who eats at 'The Pizza Company' or 'Pizza Hut' needs a good slap. :)

  15. Not so many years ago there were only a few types of bike available in Phuket - I'm talking about the stepthru's here, not the bigbikes. I've always prefered the Hondas over the Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki varieties. The Dream seemed to be the bike of choice for most but then along came the Wave and it looked a lot sleeker so I bought one of those and it has been a great bike, too. A 110 cc and then a 125cc came out, electric starter, disc brake - fantastic, and still go all day and more on a full tank.

You see them all over asia getting used for all sorts of purposes, I saw one a few days ago in Vietnam. The bloke had a fridge freezer standing upright on the back with some straps around his shoulders wearing it like a back pack, a few minutes later I saw his mate doing the same with a washing machine on the back. Extended family, couple of pigs in cages, no problem! Now call me a liar but you just can not do that on a Ducati.

The last few years have seen an influx of auto's, and scooter types. I notice the girls like this type because it offers a better seating position for them to keep their modesty intact - no flashing their knickers because of the higher center frame. I can understand that and approve.

But for us blokes I reckon the Wave is the way to go. Mine is pretty fast, faster than most - it is a red one you see and everyone knows they go faster, don't they?

    What colour is yours?

  16. My wife and I both go to the husband and wife team who have a small unit directly opposite the Sun Palm Village across from Wat Tai on Chao Fah East Road. 100 Baht an hour plus tip. They are very busy so you would need to go by and maybe make an appointment (sorry, I don't have their number). They do a lot of pressure point massage rather than the old 'rub the hands along the muscle' type. They are pretty good at getting rid of headaches.

Also, I heard someone in Chalong a few days ago say that the best massage in the whole world was at the little sauna and massage place behind 'The Office Bar' which is on the road going down to the pier on the left hand side. I have not tried it yet, though so can't verify!

  17. Have a look at :www.doctoryourself.com

The link for depression on the left side has a good article covering Tryptophan.

It doesn't tell you where you can buy it as a supplement but it does tell you which are the best foods as a source (brewers yeast being the best by far).

  18. Hi,

Last year, The Phuket Gazette had an article about a lady in Phuket who practiced this. Does anyone have any experience of it either here in Thailand or, indeed, anywhere else?

It sounded like hokum but, then, many forms of healthcare and medicine have in the past. Might it actually work?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
