'In Thailand the police use electric shocks on victims' genitals in ordinary criminal cases.'
I can see why he confessed.
Good point, very good indeed, although this quote about the Thai police is taken from an almost 7 year old report from the Asian Human Rights Commission. However, I have no reason to believe that this practice has changed for the better since.

What I find most amazing about this story is, that the Phucket police apparently did very little if anything, despite (or because of?) the fact that this woman was married to a police officer... There may be more, much more to the picture than meets the eye.

"in the Northeast, which borders the two countries" (Burma and Laos).
Since when? Must have missed an earthquake.
By the way, I remember one 5 December, some 5 years ago or so, when Thailand was officially declared "drug free". As there were drugs all over the place in Thailand, I asked some local distributors if "drug free" meant they were handing it out at no cost...

oh well , everything is good enough to make money in this country .... unfortunately I am sure so many thais dont have any idea of what happend during the war and what Hitler did to the people , not only the jews but , gypsies , homosexual, communist etc ..... ignorance is the key and lack in education another one.
What did he do to the homosexual? Personally rape them?
What did he do to the communist? If he remove them, that is a big plus for USA and the Western world isn't it.
Pity those who are as ignorant as....

What a joke! Admitted, it's been 2 years since I last went to CM airport, but what struck me most was how well it was hidden. Signage was extremely poor, as if the airport did its best not to receive any travellers.

In 2009 I read this:
"In early March 2009, CKA Chiang Mai Co. Ltd. a subsidiary of the Los Angeles based entertainment firm Creative Kingdom Inc. announced an 8 billion baht (USD 220 million) investment in a movie town, to be called Lannawood, in Chiang Mai. The project is expected to be completed in 2014 and will comprise 6 studios. The company believes Lannawood will be able to surpass Hong Kong as the hub of the movie industry in Asia. CKA expects to create a number of economic spinoff benefits for Chiang Mai."Anyone here knows more about this?
Just curious.

This is hardly a new rule anyway, if you arn't married to the mother of the child what right should you have to get the visa anyway.
Apparently you are not aware of the visa regulation this relates to. There was - and likely still is - a separate provision for unmarried fathers of Thai children. A Non-O indeed.

Although embassies and - in particular - consulates tend to make their own rules, they are not allowed to do so. All Thai embassies and consulates have been instructed by the MFA that they must strictly and uniformly implement the laws, regulations etc. set out in BKK.
I know that few Thai embassies and consulates comply with that instruction - it's up to the officer - but it could be worthwhile applying for such a "father of a Thai child" visa elsewhere. Until recently, the Thai embassy in Vientiane issued them.

...ahead of the launch of the Asean Economic Community (AEC)...
They should prepare the Departure Area to cope with all the people leaving for jobs abroad!
Doubt it. Few Thai will find employment abroad, due to lacking language skills. However, many foreign AEC'ers will be employed by international companies in Thailand - because of their language skills.

"...he had not eaten anything other than snow"
Judging from the photos, there was plenty of 'food' left for another few months.

"On the cargo front, it facilitates about 4,000 tonnes against a 5,000-tonne capacity."
In other words: We will start considering drawing up a draft plan for expansion of the present cargo capacity within 12 years after that capacity has been fully used.
TIT and it will always be - that's why I love it and will stay here as long as the Thai will allow me to.

Curious why this story hits Thai Visa....

The headline and story are not correct. Thailand is NOT on the blacklist, only Iran and North Korea are, but on another list, known as the grey list.
Perhaps so, although being lumped into the same category as Nigeria will bring unwanted scrutiny to financial transactions to / from Thailand.
Unwanted, excessive scrutiny is already hampering our business, here in Th. We have had corporate PayPal and Moneybookers accounts blocked without prior warning - at least in one case in violation with their own terms and conditions.
The ridiculous obstacles seemingly randomly imposed by PayPal and Moneybookers - apparently because of Thailand's status as a safe haven for money laundering and the financing of terrorism - seriously hurts our import and export business. Because we exclusively sell and provide services online, we can operate our business virtually anywhere on the globe and we may soon be forced to move elsewhere.
It is not only Thailand. I know of incidents where expats in Costa Rica have had their bank accounts frozen without warning. The account holder then has to prove where the funds came from in their accounts prior to them being unfrozen. Lots of money laundering and offshore shell corporations operate in CR. The US has been putting pressure on the Costa Rican government to tighten controls on money flow. All part of the the US tracking down undeclared wealth and earnings so they can tax it, along with the obligatory penalties, interest and subsequent criminal charges.
If only the US would mind their own f****** business. Neither our company, nor our shareholders or any of our staff are or have been subject to US legislation.
Accounts have been blocked four times now. Each time when they were unblocked we immediately made a donation to Wikileaks - which may very well be the reason why accounts got blocked again.

Sounds like they're not totally convinced, then....
Countries on the grey list are "warned about risks arising from transactions with the jurisdictions". The only other countries on the grey list with a high GDP are Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

This was breaking news almost 24 hours ago, not on Tuesday afternoon.
If this had been written and published on Monday, it would have been true to say that the guy "fled the country since last night" - he left on Sunday night.
Hopefully the victim's relatives were informed before this was made public. If not, this is a typical example of bad taste.
-
In other countries, this would constitute instigation of a crime. But Thailand is Thailand, not another country. Here, not only entrance, but diplomas and degrees are 'legally' for sale. One reason why many European countries do not recognise most Thai diplomas and degrees.

Could it be that some psychiatrists and former government officials have an attention-deficiency complex.

A maximum security detention centre is - this should not need an explanation - a maximum security detention centre....
So, what is a a "super maximum prison"??? More security than maximum security is impossible, so the "super" perhaps refers to
- the luxury for the VIP detainees
- the corruption money generated by its construction and operation
- the propaganda created to "sell" this prison
The security of any detention centre / prison ultimately depends on the reliability of its staff. And that's where "super" will not apply.

I find Laotian drivers much more disciplined than Thai drivers. Having said that, IMO Thai women on average drive ten times better than Thai men.

To avoid any misunderstanding, AFP here refers to the Australian Federal Police and not to the French press agency.

If the Taliban is referred to as "the insurgent group", the ISAF troops could be referred to as "foreign fighters" or "mercenaries".
Norwegian Man Confesses To 'Accidentally Killing' Phuket Girlfriend

Interestingly, there where he mentions his Glock, he writes:
"been working with LPG for a decade, and wouldnt want it in my basement either. great above ground tho." Guess that didn't apply to his late gf, who was an LPG - Lovely Pretty Girl.
