  1. The one thing you omitted in your OP was how long this has been going on? Days? Weeks?

It is his job, maybe literally, to sell cars. He has a quota and a boss and the finance company salesman has a quota and a boss. So does he hold a truck for you until you deem to go and collect it? What would your attitude be if you popped in tomorrow cash in hand only to be told sorry we sold your truck to someone else because you didn't come and get it and now you'll have to wait (insert period of your choice). If the salesman is at fault it is because he didn't tell you OK I will hold the vehicle for x days or your order is good for but you have to give us x days notice of your intention to collect.

Why order a vehicle if you can't pay for it when it arrives. The salesman is probably just as p'ed off with you as you are with him.

A question of cake and eat it too?

I knew there would be a reply like this... Did you even read the OP or what?

This has been going for nearly 2 weeks now, but you are completely missing the point. The guy assured, re assured and promised there wouldn't be any pushing from their side, that is why he got the booking in the first place. He knew beforehand we still didn't have the money, yet he convinced the gf by promising her there wouldn't be any pressure or deadline.

Regarding the notice period. There may be many stupid people who want something and want it know, but that's not me. I don't even care waiting 1 or 2 weeks for the @#$ car.

See it clearer now, so difficult to understand? She ordered it because there was a promise of no pressure and "come to pick up when you are ready" with the salesman knowledge of her not having the money and waiting for an incoming payment at an uncertain date.

I know it is his job, but IMO a salesman is worth his word, he should stick to whatever he promises, or don't offer and promise something he can't or don't want to keep.

  2. Thanks for your answers :-)

I actually called the guy back in a pushy/ultimatum way. It went like this:

    - I just called for asking when you will come to pick up the car because we need to order from another showroom...

    - Listen to me, as I already told you I am waiting for a payment that can happen between the middle and the end of next month. Now, if you are ok with waiting, good, if not let's just cancel the deal because I don't want to waste your time and I don't want you to keep pushing us. And be sure we will call you in advance so you can bring the car.

    - Oh yes, no problem sir khrub phom, thank you sir.

%$#@ man, I really hate to get angry or talk strong like that. The guy sounded polite but eating his pride while losing face at the same time, you shouldn't have pushed first because it can backfire (or at least should know exactly up to what point to push). dam_n, if someone should be pushing after all that's me, who is about to spend so much money and you will be getting a nice commision.

Although he doesn't deserve it I am giving the guy a last chance. If he ever calls again, I will cancel the deal straight away without even thinking and buy elsewhere. Even sometimes I can talk strong, I guess I am still too nice and soft rolleyes.gif

  3. Please avoid sarcasm :-)

I want to know what are the possible consequences if I cancel an existing car booking. I have no properties whatsoever here. The story is as follows:

I am going to buy a car in my name for my gf to use. Because I don't even care about cars I let her go to look, choose and do everything except the signing for the booking. She liked some Isuzu pickup and the salesman convinced her to book the car. She told him we didn't have the first payment yet because we were waiting for a payment ourselves. The guy told her: no problem, whenever you are ready to pay just come and pick up the car, no pressure from us. So she booked it and I signed a small document for finance.

Now, once the finance company said everything was fine, the salesman keep pushing us to go to pick up the car. She told him we still haven't received the money, but the guy keeps calling and pushing. At some point my gf got mad and told him she would cancel the booking and look for another dealer, then the salesman threatened her by telling her we would have problems with the finance company. The doc was in Thai (yes, stupid of me) but didn't look like a contract with clauses etc, so I wonder if he was just bluffing (I don't own anything here, btw).

I called the guy, in cool mode, and asked why he promised something and then didn't stick to his word blabla. He told me he promised a 9k valued promotion but that it was not valid for the month we booked the car, so he decided to pay by himself (sounds like big BS to me), and he said if we were late (there was no due date whatsoever in the papers we signed, or so says the gf) he would need to pay more for that promotion. After my call, the guy talked with the gf and said to com to pick up the car whenever we were ready.

Now, I just saw a missed call from the guy, and before calling him back I thought I would consult with TV :-P I don't like the guy attitude of not sticking to his word and BS me, my mind is telling me to cancel the booking and buy the car somewhere else, but I thought I better consult with someone here what possible consequences can that have: penalty looks unlikely except for losing the 5k of the booking, I just wonder if I could have some trouble when going to buy to another dealer.

Again, please avoid any sarcasm, answer only if you have some advice o something helpful to say ;-)

    Thanks!

  4. Thanks for the helpful replies, except to Donald (if you think every farang here is stupid enough to trust any random gf, you are wrong)

I am doing this software project as a freelancer with a Thai friend and he got the cheque in its name. He cashed it and give me cash.

My dilemma was not about the cheque but depositing the money in the bank, but it looks for those amounts shouldn't be any problem.

Arcady has sensible advice here about PND90, probably the way to go.

  5. Hi there,

My WP is expiring next month so my company started getting all the documents stated in WP5 form for the renewal. I have several questions:

    1. If I apply for the renewal long before the expiry date, will it affect the new expiry date? I mean, it will be renewed for 1 year from the current expiry date or the date of the application.

    2. Once I get the WP renewed, what are the steps to follow with immigration? Do I need to get all the same documents I used when applied for the first one year extension?

    3. I can't find the old pinned topic by Sunbelt (I think) regarding the WP application and first 1 year visa extension. Is it still around here somewhere?

    Thanks!

  6. The labour department is a good idea.

Your comments (both of you) are following atandard TV style. I asked about where to look but you replied if she is a lazy parasite...

Just to clarify, she is a 28 yo who didn't finish university. Has been, and is, working for the same company for more than 7 years, selling in their retail stores in shopping malls. The company is going to relocate her to a place she is not willing to go with conditions she is not willing to accept. That's the reason why she wants to find a new job and I am trying to help.

Of course there are signs asking for staff in many shops, but difficult to see them when you are working the whole day and have so few days off. Not to mention almost all of them are asking for degrees even for the most basic jobs, that's why I thought it's better to browse on internet or a newspaper and apply for the ones she feel qualified.

Thanks anyway to everyone who replied

Has it dawned on you maybe the Thai doesnt want a job?

Where abouts are you in Thailand?

I see job adverts all over the place, in shop winows, outside restaurants, in every large shopping centre there is at least one notice board listing jobs, 7-11s have adverts advertising for staff, I see adverts on the back of delivery trucks asking for staff.

All the jobs you talk about are advertised in Bkk, Central was looking for staff, paying from 12/15 k up to 20k per month.

From what I have observed over the years any Thai that wants a job can get one, if they say they cant its usually BS.

Couldn't agree with you more! And as for the original poster why don't you ask your friend why he doesn't go to the local labour department, register and look through the many jobs that are posted up there?
  7. If the checkpoints, embargoes, sieging entire towns with illegal settlements, etc is not enough for you then I don't know what it will be. It may be not as fast as chemical weapons (which could be as true as in Iraq case) but is killing people too.

Of course, you guys maybe think the entire Palestine population are terrorists...

  8. I hope Israel knows what she is doing. Of course if you bomb chemical weapons and they are released killing people, you are responsible for launching those weapons even if your intent was to prevent their use.

If you conspire to put chemical weapons into the hands of a terrorist organization, who have a track record of targeting civilians then you are morally responsible for any repercussions. Israel has clearly warned where her red lines are and acted to defend them, I hope Washington has similar clarity of purpose should it's own red lines be crossed.

As if Israel didn't have a track record targeting civilians as well..

  9. I really loved the "cirrhosis-bordeaux and excrement-brown tone", made my day lol

I have to rant about what I call "grumpy expat car drivers from hell"

Today I was driving the motorcycle on Pattaya third road towards the bali hai end and there was a slow moving honda city in front of me, not much going on otherwise.

Since the car was relatively far from the left side, I began passing it there.

The driver swerved to the left.

Then I tried passing it on the right - he swerved to the right so much that I was blocked by oncoming traffic.

I retried on the left, and you guessed it - he swerved to the left.

Luckily he got cornered by stopped traffic on the road.

Now I do not understand what was happenening between the ears of that driver, if anything ?

You may recognize youself: older age, almost bald, the color of your car is a tone between cirrhosis-bordeaux and excrement-brown.

This is not the first time I notice such things.

There are the guys putting their car exactly in the middle of narrower passages to forbid passage on both sides and there are also the guys who when waiting at a red light will close the gap between them and the front vehicle to bar passage of any 2 wheelers when they see some approach.

    rant over, comments welcome.

  10. As much as despise his deeds, I am almost as much disgusted by all these "kill him and castrate him", "castrate him and then kill him"...or whatever posts.

    Pedophiles are mentally sick.

You don't wake up one morning and say "Oh...it is such a nice day...I think, I am going to FXXX a 10 year old!"

It is as little a choice as is homosexuality, heterosexuality, necrophilia or what ever you can think of.

If you are going on to ask for pedophiles to be killed...ask yourself: where would you stop? What is acceptable to you?

    Pedophilia? Rape?

    Okay...now what about your neighbor?

We know, that in Thailand (f.e.) rape and pedophilia are obviously much more "okay" than in "the west".

Do I say that is good? Hell, no!

But there are countries, where homosexuality is seen as the most evil and despicable thing to do...so...they are going to kill some gays instead...and that would be...okay?

Pedophiles are sick and they need help.

Do they need to be punished for what they do?

    Yes, absolutely!

have a look at this...and try to get a grip!

At last someone with common sense, I was already losing faith in humanity (or TV members at least)

You know, maybe the right winged hang'em high brigade are also sick and they should be treated accordingly :-P

Problem is, the limp wristed left wingers are screwing things up too much already. It's not being right winged, it's just being realistic & practical.
See your point but don't agree.

I don think capital punishment is a realistic solution. As DocN said it is impossible to draw the line, what is acceptable to you would be unacceptable to some. At the end the world population would be 1 person.

Maybe it would be you hehe ;-P

  12. Oops, didn't read your update :-P

As Inner space says I would clarify asap if they are willing to provide you with a work permit, you would be surprised how many companies want you to break the law and it's a serious offense.

The company should pay for the visa and wp. They should apply for the wp and then send you the receipt and a employment letter and some more documents for you to get the visa in Germany (check about that in the pinned topics, I did it from here so it will be slightly different). You can also come on a tourist or without visa and then go to a neighbouring embassy to get the visa. You will need to bring your diploma and get it translated in Thai, then certify the translation in your embassy (double check in the list of docs).

The work permit is accepted if all the docs are OK, then you will get a extension while they revise them. If you do this from inside the country then you will go to Laos or similar to the Thai embassy and will get the visa, you will get stamped for 3 months on the border. Once the visa is issued, the work permit will be too. You can start working while labour revises the wp docs. If it's a small company or you are the first foreigner, work closely with the employer to verify every single doc according to the list. In my case it took them about 5 visits to labour to get the application accepted and they were telling me to relax while my visa was close to end :S

If you do it from Europe I guess you can get the non b easier and won't need to apply for the wp first, double check that.

The spending depends a lot. You can get a shitty Thai style apartment for as low as 3 or 4 thousand bahts, just a room with a bed, table and chair and a toilet. Standard deposit is 2 months so the first month you will pay 3 months. If you go this way expect to buy a TV, refrigerator, bed sheets etc. If in the future you move to a serviced apartment you will need to sell all this staff for peanuts. In condos and apartments the water and electric pay inflated rates. This is specially important if the air con units are old. You can end up paying around 2000 for just the electricity.

  13. Don't listen to the grumpy old men.

You can get a tourist visa single entry which upon immigration extension will give you 90 days of stay, or double entry which with extensions will give you 90 + 90 days (will need to cross the border to activate second entry).

I am a mobile developer with more than 10 years experience and came with a double entry and found a job here in about 3 months in a small company (don't limit yourself to international ones). At some times you will feel is hard because many of the offers explicitly ask for a Thai national. I don't know if your experience is on traditional design or software oriented, but you will find that most software related companies require English and do all the internal and customer documents in that language, even internal emails are 95% of the time in English. You will also see with your own eyes how in all of those companies 99% of the staff speaks a very decent English (we jus brought 3 trainees from different public universities and they speak better English than me)

It is true that are many decent graphic designers here, but having working closely with some of them I must say that overall is just ok, so if you are as good as you say you shouldn't have problems. Just be patient and keep going to all the interviews you can. About the salaries, don't expect the same you were getting in the west. Most salaries are very low and many offers ask for outstanding experience and abilities. If you start with a low salary because you just can't wait for a good offer, the only way to get a real adjustment is to get a better offer and let your company counter offer it.

    Good luck mate

  14. Been a while since been in Phuket. What actually are the Tuk Tuk and MC fares today?

Me wanna know too. Planning to go after Songkran and I haven't seen mention since "Hitler plans a Phuket Vacation" youtube sendup. Do meter cabs exist?

They exists but don't use the meter. They act like mafia and have some agreed fares which are very very overpriced. That's why they are so scared, they are used to charge those prices and get zero competitors. Only time I was there I was charged 500 baht for a 15 min ride and it was impossible to get a lower fare, all of them quoted same price. It's a shame because the place is nice, but I am not going back if this crap doesn't improve.

  15. Just to update you guys.

I went to Chula on Monday morning just to be faced with around 300 people in front of me in the queue. After waiting a few hours and still having more than 100 people in front I took the decision to visit Ari Pet Hospital.

I was gladly surprised by this doctor and his team, it looks like they really know what they are doing and seem very competent. However the news are not good: He told me this was not looking like pneumonia (no coughing, no mucus), just fluids in the lungs. He gave the cats antibiotics and told me to call him back in 4 days if I don't see improvement. His main suspects are feline leukemia and feline AIDS, which don't have any cure; some cats can overcome the infections and have a quite decent life while other won't. I am feeling extremely depressed now, just had the cats for a few months but I am really attached to them, specially to the sickest one :,(

On the negative side, he told me he would like to test them for leukemia but he has run out of tests and need to order in bulk. The price of a single test would be 15,000 THB which sounds awfully expensive to me. I saw on many places over the internet the costs are well below 100 USD, so not sure about this crazy price and I was holding my tears so didn't ask more about that.

On a side note, I found it strange that no veterinarian here in Thailand hadn't even talked about draining the fluids out of the lungs, or taking a sample via the trachea to make a culture and see if this is a bacteria, fungus, or a virus in the worst case.

Did any poster performed a leukemia test locally? What was the cost?

I will try to get quotations from other vets, although I feel so negative now... In case this was leukemia I guess there's little we can do for them after spending that crazy amount.

Just to keep the negativity, is it common with local vets to denying putting the animals down because of Buddhism? Because for sure I will want to do if, unfortunately, the cats start to suffer.

    Thanks again

  16. This is about vet cat or about what...?

Its a big lie compare Your province people with the Thai people. Everyone in Spain know how Nazi are the small piece of people that claim separate of Spain but in the other side they "forgot" how much they got from Spain theyself.

You right about similar to Thai people. The brainwash politician start it from school. Dont letting your children to learn Spanish languague and teaching a lie side of the history. The big diferent with thai people is what at least they protect theirself opposite your who want destroy everything from Spain.

Sorry to tell you will never get another citizen than Spain. Dont lie people here.

Now i go on toppic: I love my cat except when she do po outside the box!

Read it twice, it was a foreigner who lived there long time who made the comparison, not me. And personally I don't see the similarities but that could be because I am from there.

I don't want to continue an OT but let me tell you something: it is exactly that attitude and ignorance what is fueling the independence feeling, not brainwashing as you say (and I assume you never lived in Catalunya coz you are just repeating unionist slogans which are PLAIN lies).

I don't know how old are you, but I am in my mid 30s and I am 100% confident I will see Catalunya being a new country long before I die. And all the merit will go to people like you. BTW Nazi would be more suitable to the Spaniards and their belief thinking they can tell the others how or what to be; this is called fascism and we have really recent history there on this 'doctrine'.

Anyway if you don't have anything to help with the topic you could just keep silent.

  17. Hehe I am Catalan myself, hopefully will be able to say that is my official nationality anytime soon ;) I agree with you, people in the smaller cities are very used to speak Catalan and many have a strong accent and few vocabulary when speaking Spanish. However this is highly off topic ^_^U

Thanks for the links, just confirmed what we thought about not operating while sick, specially when there's difficulty in breathing.

I contacted Ari pet hospital but they told me they are closed today :-(

What about the address you gave me earlier? I worry about carrying the cats there and being unable to find it or they being closed during the weekends.

I think I will try calling the ones in the PDF list here in TV
