  1. I just ordered this from Lazada:

    กล่องแอนดรอยรุ่นใหม่สเปคแรงมาก- HK1 RBOX X4 Wifi 2.4/5G Bluetooth 4.1 CPU Amlogic S905X4 Android 11 รองรับLAN1,000M Smart tv Boxandroid TV box

Why? The ad had a 20 minute review (boring) but ended with ‘for $50 this is a great little box’, and the specs looked okay.  Cheers.

  2. I noticed, but perhaps my specs translation fell short that this model does not play external usb-2 and usb-3 disks. I went through a number of Lazada offerings - at least one had a maximum of 2T disks - not right for me. There was one model that worked with an iPhone but I can’t find it again. I’m not looking for Netflix etc - my wifi is too slow - the condo won’t let TOT upgrade the line.

  3. Right now I’m playing them on an ancient MB Pro, using the VLC ios app. It can connect by USB-c and USB-2; I send the movies to the Samsung using IMDB, but only one at a time, haha.

I would like a Tukcom Pattaya Tai box to do the job. Do these boxes have a remote? Faint chance: do any run ios so I can continue using iPad ios VLC as my remote?

Which model would be good for me?  Thanks all.

  4. A terrible thing just happened. Our 19-year old teapot’s lid dropped to the floor; we glued two pieces together with some gravel bits leftover. We use it for 4 or 5 big cups of British or Chinese tea 5 or 6 times a week.

We’re near Friendship, Pattaya Tai. Where should be go for a replacement pot and lid?

    Thanks

  5. Thanks to all for the positive comments and the blunt ones too - a learning phase for me. This morning my test was still positive but with a faded “T” line. My landlord came through: he took my passport and a letter authorizing his possession of the passport, google translated, to Soi 5 marriage Counter 6 and, after a higher officer gave his okay, brought me back the passport with new visa valid until Oct 11 next year.

The trip was suggested by a visa firm, I later thanked them. If you want the name of this recommended agency, drop me a dm and I’ll tell you.

We should be okay in a few days, then it’ll be Thai food and beer (eating with the masks off) as recommended in Jingthing’s restaurants thread.

    Cheers.

  6. My wife and are feel fine although chest colds are coming on. We’ve had 4 covid shots and just had the annual flu shots. I did a home covid test a week ago - negative. Just now I tested both of us, both positive. So we will isolate. The test came at a bad time. I am scheduled to go to Jomtien’s Soi 5 Immigration on the afternoon of Oct 12 to have them stamp my renewed marriage visa in my passport. What to do?

One other item. The readings showed two black lines.  On-line test results always show a red line for “C” and a black line for”T”.

Is this in the right forum?

  7. Soi Chaiyapoon, off Soi Buakhao, the first soi north of Soi Lenkee. Apparently the reason it’s always been horrible is that it is a private road, not a city road. I don’t know how that works, but there’s another private road running off Pattaya Tai to Soi 17 (maybe owned by the hotel there).

  8. The FBS (fasting blood sugar) test you can get at a clinic or hospital will not be the same as a blood sugar meter reading. In my case the last three months meter readings (taken before breakfast) average 5.8. This is consistent over time.  My last HbA1c reading was 5.1 (usually 5.2-5.6 with occasional 3.0 readings). I take lots of Metformin, way over the recommended dosage. All this because I’ve been diabetic for almost 30 years.

I use the Accu-Chek Performa system and get sticks from a Bangkok Pharmacy or Lazada.

  9. Positive update. 4 days ago the son-in-law in question had a very sore lower stomach. He stayed overnight in the local hospital and was told that he had a ‘hard liver’ and that unless he stopped drinking he would die. He said the doctor told him he could ‘drink a bit’. I will be up there in three weeks and will harp on his upcoming demise - advice here please.

  10. I hope this will yield something.

My son-in-law, let’s call him Chai, has had many problems, mainly alcohol and, sometime, ya ba. He’s fourty, looks okay, hardly ever works, and at some point, on his last legs. He calls his mom, my wife, many times every day complaining. So many excuses.

Anyway, what can be done? He lives in Phitsanulok. Is there some place to go in pursuit of sobriety? Every day, my wife listens for hours (no exaggeration) but her advice isn’t listen to. At all.

Is there a wat that would take him? A place whose authority would help bring him straight?

    He is near Bang Rakam.

    Cheers
