  1. I am on a Non-O extension based on Marriage. Our main residence is in Chonburi, where I applied for the extension, we also live 6 months of the year in Southern Thailand. I am approaching the 90 day report period and would like to avoid a 1800km round trip to Chonburi. This was not an issue before, as I would go abroad every 90 days.  From what I understand, you must now do your 90 day reports from the immigration office you applied your extension from, hence in my case, Chonburi. Is this correct? Another option, would be to fill out a TM28 (change of address)form every time I move back and forth, is this doable without being frowned upon? Someone would think, that having an online database, presenting yourself at your local Immigration office and filling a tm30 form everytime you leave your residence for more than 24 hrs, would be enough. Anyone else in the same predicament?

  2.  I underestimated the impact of this condition. After 10 days of loud ringing and 2-3 hrs of light sleep a night, it broke me. I had to take the Rivotril (Klonopin), as the Dr. ordered in the beginning and which I had refused to take. The feelings of anxiety, panic attack and depression due to constant ringing and lack of sleep, took its toll. I am better now, after first 6 hrs sleep but definitely will have to deal with this from another angle. Everyone, who responded, seems to echo the same feelings, you get used to it and the rings will decrease in volume and get on with it. Was it this bad for everyone in the beginning? I think the brain and body need time to adjust to it. Apparently the beginning stages are really hard. Anyhow respects to all for coping with it.

  3. Thank you everyone for your responses! I don't want to take any the drugs they want to give you, anti-depressants and benzodiazepene. So, everyone here dealt with the onset of Tinnitus without any medication? I plan to. Second question, I heard alcohol increases the ringing? Please, share your experiences and coping mechanisms.

  4.       Well, this is all new to me. It started last week, with some light crunching noises in my right ear. I attributed it to the Air con but after blowing my nose and popping my ears, a consistent high frequency hiss/whine appeared. This happened seven days ago and since then it hasn't stopped. I have been to the hospital to speak with two ENT doctors and an hearing specialist to perform audiometry tests. All looks normal. So, it is Tinnitus!! Constant ringing in the ear. According to the doctor the cause for me could be attributed to wearing headphones listening to podcasts or audiobooks while cycling, at low levels to be aware of my surroundings, stress or degenerative damage, use of Norgesic for sports injuries, Aspirin? Don't know? I was prescribed Rivotril(Clonazepam)to "subdue the noise and give the brain time to adapt to it!"(Doctors words). Also for the severe anxiety, depressive mood due to the lack of sleep( 2-3 hrs a night for the last week). Some vitamin supplements, Gingko Biloba and Neuro-bion(vit. supplements) were added to the mix as well. Anyhow, I refuse to take Rivotril. I have heard the horror stories of Benzodiazepine dependency and do not need to add another list of problems to the situation. Anyone agree or disagree?

I have been trying to keep busy, taking supplements, healthy food, cold showers seems to relieve the noise, sauna helps as well. I also try to swim or walk everyday for a couple kms, have not been back cycling due to lack of sleep. During the day, it would be manageable keeping busy but the nights are a nightmare, no chance of sleep....maybe light sleep for 1 hr in 2/3 sessions...constant hissing? Does it subside? I am trying to embrace it and train my brain into accepting it(as seen on some youtube vids), staying relaxed s much as possible, limiting stressful situations. How do people handle this at first? Has a short period of Rivotril helped anyone for this in the short term? Cheers, avoid headphones even at lower volumes!

  6. Would anyone have an updated list and experience of the requirements needed for an extension based on marriage(Non O) at Jomtien Immigration? These vary from province to province. I would like to avoid making more than the necessary trips. For example; how many pictures, witnesses, which documents and how many copies, etc...? I looked it up online but there is a lot of contradicting and outdated information. Thank you.

  7. I am interested in applying for an extension based on marriage(Multi Non-O). My local immigration office is Jomtien. Does the 400k need to be in a separate bank account or can I use the account I make withdrawals from weekly, as long as the amount never goes under 400k? My Multiple Non-O expires in May, if I apply for a 60 day extension due to the travel restrictions, am I still eligible to apply for marriage 1 yr extension within the 60 days?

  8. If you really want to dedicate yourself to Surfing, then Bali. Thailand has mostly moderate surf for a short period of time of the year. Having said that, you could easily find a place in Thailand which would tick your boxes and take short trips to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Philippines, Indonesia for surfing. What you are looking for doesn't exist, you must adapt and find alternative solutions. As a jump off platform to do Surf trips, Thailand is not bad. If you are really passionate about Surf, move to Indonesia.

  9. Costa Rica doesn't look half bad to me. People change and places change, you must be able to adapt accordingly. Great surf, coastal towns, nature, wildlife, Carribean coast, Pacific coast, mountains, small population(4.8 million), no military, decent health care, easy immigration, ownership laws. Nowhere is perfect. If in South Eastern Asia, Thailand is still number 1.

  10. As stated previously, you could go to Savanakhet for a Multiple Non Immigrant "o" with your marriage certificate, copies of your wifes' id and tambien baan (signed by her), 2 photos, application form and 5,000 baht. Maybe apply for a double tourist entry visa in Phnom Penh or as a last option, just fly back with Air Asia to Bangkok and if I am not mistaken, they will give you a visa exemption of 30 days(if you are flying in). Either way, get out of Poipet and try to mix the business at hand with some enjoyment....beer, wine and food is cheap and can be tasty in PP.

  11. I just received my new Passport from my embassy in Bangkok. I was on a Multiple entry-O which has an expiration date of July 22 2015, I entered Thailand in June 2015. My visa is valid until Spetember 24th 2015. Do I need to go to immigration to transfer this entry, although the NON-O is expired already? Or do I just need to show up to the airport/border crossing immigration point on my way out with both passports before Sept 24th 2015? Thank you.

  12. I travel a lot to Bali for the Surf. I considered moving there for that same reason. After half a dozen extended trips over the last two years, I reconsidered this. I contracted Chikungunya there last year and was exposed to the medical care provided, it was decent yet very expensive at the foreigner oriented clinic. Traffic is another major issue, really dangerous, too many cars and motorbikes and very narrow streets. A lot of the people I met who lived in the Seminyak and Canggu area, renting villas, had problems with burglaries. Part of the blame can be put on the "charming" open living plan of the houses. Pollution is also an issue. Quality of food and hygiene is also less than acceptable. In regards to the Surf, which is the only reason, I would live there. It is amazing but getting to Surf spots( Police checks, Parking motorbikes, theft, localism etc...)can be problematic. It is also very crowded. I understand long term visas can be an ordeal as well. The food is not to my taste at all, too greasy. No where is perfect, you must weigh the pros and the cons and find what is acceptable for you.

The positive for me, apart from the surf, was the geography of the island. Volcanoes, cliff bordered beaches, surf breaks, beach breaks, rice paddies coffee plantations etc...The people outside the tourist beaten paths can be charming. Friendships can be made more easily with locals. Yes, cost of living is slightly less then Thailand, depending on how you choose to live. However, it can escalate very fast, if you have a medical emergency(you would probably end up going straight to Bangkok or Singapore for medical care). The Visa shuffle can be a drag and costly. I would conclude by saying, Bali is a great place to visit and return to, it has its charms and the surf is second to none. However, Thailand has better infrastructure and services for long term stays.
