  1. Here's a wild solution (not as wild as some of the plans that the ''experts'' come up with, ie propellers pushing the water down river) to the flooding around Bangkok etc.

If they build a dam from just North of Sattahip across to Petchaburi Prov all that reclaimed land cold be used for the overflow.

    Job done.

I know I know, there's one small drawback though, the port of Bangkok would have to be relocated to Sattahip.

  2. I'm not keen on keen on ''flying coffins'' either but they are the only way I can get from Nong Mon (Bangsaen) to Ban Chang.

From Pattaya to Ban Chang get a songtheow to the top of Pattaya Thai, when he stops at the top walk to the end, turn left then go over the foot bridge. M/cy taxi's at the bottom of the steps, that's where the van stops for Ban Chang.

When they ask you where are you going tell them Ban Chang, they'll most likely (in my experience) tell you when  a 57 is coming and stop it for you.

Tell the the driver you are going to Ban Chang, some times they shoot off and go the pretty way and you'll end up in Rayong!

You don't need to get off opposite Tesco Lotus, it's a bit of a walk from there, if he stops there point to the traffic lights and tell him fai (see)

deng (red light) (it works for me)

You want to be on Thetsaban 25 (soi, street), that goes down from the lights, there's a Yamaha dealership on the left corner, straight down from there and you can't miss the bars, they are all the way down there starting with the Camel bar.

Three of us went from Pattaya by taxi, at that time, two years ago, it cost us 600baht. Shop around, some quoted 800 baht!

There's a good cheap hotel on the left just before the Camel bar called the Chang Sova Hotel, google it for the prices, It's within wobbling distance of the bars.

I hope this helps, good hunting. 555.

  3. Thanks a lot for the info and advice guys, I'll have a ride over to Pattaya in the next few days, I can kill two birds with one stone, as the saying goes, I can try Boots for the patches and also get something to eat that's not rice or noodle based.

    Cheers, Lozth.

  4. Hello folks,

I've posted this in the appropriate forum but the last post on there was in 2016 so I thought I'd try on this forum.

I want/need to stop smoking, I've checked all the pharmacists I've come across  in my area, Bangsaen, for patches gum etc but they don't seem to stock them.

I wonder if you guys in Pattaya could help me out, have any of you found patches etc in Pattaya?

    Thanks in anticipation,

  6. There's a bus runs from Ekamai straight to the pier at Laem Ngob,

Ticket office on your left before you go inside.

The bus stands at the front of the bus station....

Safer and better than going on a van or to Trat.

The bus to Trat doesn't always go into town, then you need a s/theow to the ferry...

  7. I've been here six years, I'm on a retirement visa/extension, I'm not married.

I had a visit, my first, from three Immigration officers just over three months ago.

After they showed me their ID etc, they took photos of me outside then after I'd taken photos of them I asked them if they wanted to see my passport, they said no, not necessary they told me that they were only interested in seeing me at that address and that was where I lived as per their information at Sriracha Imm office.

There was no hassle, they were very polite and it was all done in a very cordial manner.

I've read some stories of problems some people have at different Imm offices round the country but I've never had any problems at all at the Sriracha office.

(there is a guy there that if it's busy with non Thai Asians will fast track farangs through. we all agree, he's a diamond geezer 555)

  8. 34 minutes ago, does said:

Those without sin... how about this one: the reputaion of farang coming to Thailand preceds them. Sound pretty aweful, right?

I agree with this comment, but this is again, lumping all farangs in the same mold, as with the Isaan girls.

I was once unlucky enough to be sat next to a guy who was on his way home from three weeks in Pattaya.

(it had been his third trip here)

Usual attire, beer Chang vest, shorts and flip flops, reeking of beer and loud.

He started to tell me all about his holiday experiences which consisted of three weeks in Pattaya, in the bars/go go's and massage parlors and all about the bar girls.

After three trips here he was an expert on all things Thai.

He asked me if I'd been to Pattaya, I said yes, more times than you've had hot dinners, I live about an hour from Pattaya and I've lived here for six years, where else in Thai have you been?

(I'm happy to say after I told him I've been living here six years  he stopped telling me what to do and how to go on in Pattaya, silence reigned)

He'd been nowhere else In Thai, only Pattaya on all three trips!

He was English, so am I, so in the eyes of the Isaan bar girls was he the typical high end farang (Brit) tourist?

  9. Over a period of time I've had three packages from the UK go missing, but nothing important.

One of the packages was sent by UK registered post but the sender was told by the post office that they couldn't guarantee once it left the country that it would get to me, it didn't!

All packages were sent with the address printed in Thai.

  10. Mr Meatboy posted this:

    done mine last monday.

need notification form from british embassy.

photo copies of every page in your old passport.

    oh nearly forgot 500BHT,SERVICE CHARGE.

dont ask for a receipt you wont get one.

I went to Sriracha last Wed, 22nd, to start my new passport off, I too had to have copies of each page of my old passport plus copy of my rent agreement.

When I went back to the original office I was fast tracked through, the Imm officer went through my papers, smiled and said please wait over there, my passport went into another office.

Twenty mins later I was on my way.

I wasn't ask for any bank details.

I had NO additional fees to pay.

Job well done by smiling Sriracha Imm staff.
