  1. My mate made a mistake with his return flight date by three days.

He was told by his bar buddies, experts he said because they'd been here years, he would be ok at the airport, He would only have pay for one day because they wouldn't charge him for the first day.

As his flight was just after 01:00 if he went through Immigration/passport control early, about 22:00 he'd not have to pay for the third day either...

When he went through he was taken to the overstay office to pay his fine, 500bht his buddies told him, just for the one day.

They charged him for ALL the days, It cost him 1500bht.

(a saving of 400bht though over the Imm office (that I told him to go to in the first place) price of 1900bht)

AND he got the overstay stamp!!!!!!

I laughed at him and said Som nam naa, his answer to me, first word started with an F, and the second word ended with an F.

I don't think I'm his mate any more..

So good luck mate, you might get away with not paying.

  2. 1968, Majorca for two weeks. Brilliant. Never got the same ciggies from the hotel bar two days on the trot.

The reason, the night watchman used to go to a little bar on the harbour and bring a box full back, big time smuggler!

My next time abroad was in 1990 on a package hols to Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore, I've never looked back since.

I've been to most Asian countries now over the years but never managed to get to Vietnam.

My last trip overseas was to England three years ago... ;-)

(I never had the urge to go back to Singapore though)

Rob8891, where in Lincs were you, I lived in Wainfleet for many years

  3. Hello Gentlemen,

I need advice for a friend of mine coming over later.

He's having a week in Pattaya then moving to Koh Chang for a week.

I've been told he can get to Koh Chang from Pattaya, I wonder if you can verify that he can get to Koh Chang from Pattaya by bus.

I live between Bang Saen and Ang Sila so I've no idea if this can be done, when I've gone there I've always gone to Ekamai and got the bus to Laem Ngop from there.

    Thanks in advance.

    Loz.

  4. Over the years I've traveled on Thai 2nd class sleeper from Bankok to Udon Thani and Nong Khai many times and never had a problem or heard of anybody else having luggage/bags tampered with or stolen.

If it would make you feel happier/safer, sleep with your head at the same end of the bunk as your luggage/bags and/or secure your luggage/bags with a thin chain or bike lock to the rack.

  5. I was queued up at Imm line one trip in. A very polite Thai guy with airport ID asked me where I was staying. I said I don't know yet, somewhere in Bangsaen when I get there.

He asked to look at my white ticket, I can't remember the number, I'd filled in on the plane.

He wrote something on it, when I checked he'd written the name of a hotel on it in English..

When we, the guys in the queue, got talking about it turned a good many of us that hadn't filled that bit in were all staying at the same hotel in Bangkok.

    But none of us were!!!!

  6. Last Monday, 5th Dec, I went to BKK from Nong Mon (Bangsaen) to meet a friend flying in.

The driver was not reckless in any way and didn't speed.

    Time taken 1hr 20 mins....

The return trip was entirely different, speeding, changing lanes all the time.

When the Thais in the van started complaining to him he didn't take any notice.

Even when photo's of him were taken.

Return time to Nong Mon, 46 mins!

He was gone before I could get his van number.

It was a Sriracha tours van number 9901 but I didn't get the second part.

There are no big blue buses got to either Pattaya etc or Rayong any more, they changed to vans a long time ago

So we don't get a choice now, it's got to be the van.

  7. Good morning,

I'm sorry if this has been done to death but I can't find any info relating to my question.

But I'm hoping you guys can put me on the right path.

My retirement visa ends on January the 11th 2016,

my next, and last on this visa, 90 day report is due on the 22nd of December.

My question is, if I go as normal on the 22nd Dec will I be OK and get a 90 day or will I need to have a new retirement visa before I go?

    Thanks in advance,

    Loz.

    (Bangsaen)

  8. As for the safety factor of unloading the passengers while the welding was done, waste of time.

I've been on the mini-van (I have to, the big buses don't run from Nong Mon any more!) a number of times to Pattaya, and we've had to pull in to gas up.

We all have to get off while this is done for 'safety'.

Most of the Thai's don't move away, they just hang about at the side of the van next to the pump!

    So much for safety!

  9. I bought a new laptop with windows 8...

I didn't get on with it at all, I was looking into loading windows 7 then the option to upgrade free to 10 popped up.

    So I took it up.

It was very easy to do but I did have a problem when it was loaded.

    I had no sound!!

Apparently this problem is not unknown, there are tips on google about how to rectify this.

If you upgrade and have this sound problem I'm sorry, I can't tell you how how to fix it.

I have teamviewer installed, my son fixed it for me...

    All the best.

  10. I went to Srirach Immigration yesterday just after 10:30, it was bedlam outside, when I got inside it was jam-packed.

My number was 81, I imagined being there for most of the day

But they have four desks, three for non Thai Asians, Lao,Cambodian, etc. (I've no idea what visa they were renewing but a some of them had company uniforms on)

and one, on left, for 90 day reports.

It turned out I was fourth in the queue, the young lady behind the desk was doing a sterling job, not looking the slightest bit stressed about it, I've never gone through in such a short time, 10 minutes at the most!

    So well done Sriracha office.

She did say due to Monday being a bank holiday and songkran next week.

  11. I look forward to your stories and pix, I used to do the same thing a few years back and had great fun, I was thinking I really ought to start roaming again!

    NO beer!

    When did this happen?

    I quote rak sa_ngop

Travelling by train in Thailand has lost its appeal ever since they stooped selling beer.

I used to love sitting in the restaurant carriage of the Nong Khai train sucking a few bottles of beer while trying to eat my splashing around Tom Yam Kung soup.

    Will those days ever return???
