I shared my experience in hopes that it might help another fellow Farang who doesn't find himself in a bind one day. After all the negative feedback, I won't be doing it again!

I am the OP from the other thread regarding American banks, I have always used an address in America and all my cards are blocked for use on a regular basis. They did offer a release of funds but only for a limited window of time i.e. a planned vacation.

I am just going by what my bank has informed me, my MIL has used the same ATM card for the last four years and my bank is aware that it was being used in Thailand.

However, as of last month it can no longer be used on a regular basis. I was told that they can do a release but only for a limited time i.e. on vacation.

Take it for what it's worth.

I always enjoy a fine dining experience that is followed by live entertainment!

I've talked with Doug on several occasions via the internet and was always a pleasure to visit with. He came to Thailand from Las Vegas, NV where he worked as a card dealer in the casino's.

His family fell apart at one point and his marriage ended in a divorce. I believe he said he owned a condo in Vegas which he sold after he decided to make a move to Thailand.

Not all men that go Thailand are sex tourists, sometimes life is unfair and being lonely is a hard path to follow.

I understand he met a Thai lady and together they moved somewhere north and he used his funds to build them a house. I remember him saying that the village life was a bit too slow for his liking and he moved back to Pattaya. He took a TESOL course at one point and had done a few teaching jobs. He was pretty well known with the expat community and everybody seemed to like the guy.

He never came across as being upset or unhappy and just seemed to love Thailand. I think this really came as a shock to all who knew him. So, please before anymore ill comments are spoken, remember he had family and friends and I was totally surprised when I opened my Facebook first thing this morning was to see his body after a 27 story fall.

Rest in peace my friend!.......

Tragic, but very selfish of him, not just the suicide but the manner of it. There are quieter and more considerate ways to go into the night.

I also agree.....You want end it all that's fine, but do it in a way where it wouldn't effect innocent people!....But then again suicide is nothing more than a selfish act!
