  1. I would really like to buy a Kill A Watt device on planet Thailand.

Back on planet earth I had a device with a digital read out installed that was mounted next to the phone, it had nothing to do with the phone though, it was actually wireless so could be installed anywhere but it gave me the actual usage in real time. You could turn the kettle on and see the usage go up. You could program it with the cost of the power, and it actually read out how much each hour at that consumption and it logged in $ usage in 24hr blocks as well. This was installed by the power company under a Gov grant scheme.

It was an eye opener how expensive some things really are to run.

It was good or the kids to, we were using about $7.50 a day average. Told the kids, anything under $6.50 they can have as pocket money. (lolly money). Almost instantly after they experiment what used allot, our bill avg $5.80 for the next month and the installed meter was spot on compared to the company bill as well. This one device was the game changer in the kids use of TV, lights and aircon being switched off when they are finished.jap.gif

I wish I could get one on Planet Thailand...........

  2. There was a thread n here about 2 years ago, I think it was TV anyway. About the magic boxes for sale on Bangkok Sukhumvite near Soi 7 to Soi 11 that are still sold there as of 2 months ago claiming a 20% reduction in your bill. There some evidence it worked a bit, but it also had some down side if I remember correctly. Limiting power to some appliances giving them a 'brown out'. The TV search function is less than pathetic, sorry I can not find it again today.

Someone posted turning off the air con and replace with a fan, I do not have facts of course, but I think.... dangerous me thinking wife says.. laugh.gif ... anyway, I turn on a fan at the same time as the air con. Fan on low and up the air con 2 -3 degrees C gives the same feel to me and the AC is working defiantly half of the time, the compressor I mean.

  3. typically for brick mortar should be using around a 3:1 mix....ie 3 parts sand to 1 part cement, and should be putting down about 0.5" of mortar between the bricks, put too much and it will crack.

Southpeel, can you pls confirm you mean half an inch? That is what I see more developed countries. Maybe what I was seeing here was many more parts of sand : 1 part cement to save cost, and 4cm of mortar to save cost or they are just completely clueless, or all three..

put too much and it will crack What, you mean it's not meant o crack after 6 months? now I am really confused.ohmy.gif

  4. Ok, I am 2800m by sealed road to the nearest 3BB box and and 2600 to were a fiber optic for CAT, TOT and 3BB pass bye. TOT rudely told us to go away, they were simply dis graceful and 3BB worked out a quote for 190,000b connection and 12 month contact from my wife at 2500b a month. She told them to "expletive removed".

Can our local monk put a curse on them if they don't ?

  5. He doesn't smoke and I have Dtac, TOT and AIS sim cards with GPRS, I normally get 30kbps down and 70kbps up. The best I have ever seen was on AIS at about 4am and it was 134kbps down, that was using the Bangkok server on Thai Visa.

Thailand is the land of influence, Patrons & corruption, if I give my local monk who wants internet a years of ADSL cost and he is my patron would he have the influence to get 3BB to give the area ADSL?

  6. To explain what my secondary question was, while I am thinking out a loud here. 3BB said they would consider putting a ADSL node in if 10 people would sign up, do you think if I monk asked for the temple to get ADSL access, things would happen much faster? Or if the temple applied for 3BB adsl or TOT and maybe we gave the temple 12 x 599b as a internet donation that the ADSL companies would not refuse the temple?rolleyes.gif

  7. We don't have ADSL or 3G. We have a very slow 2G signal though form the phone companies.

Our local monk, yes, this temple has 1 resident monk, nice guy. He has a laptop. I often go to a internet cafe with my laptop and plug in the Ethernet cable and off I go for 3 hours.

His comp needs updates and what the point without net.

I do not understand what is so bad about him going to the cafe`?

    Any idea's please. rolleyes.gif

  8. Well the subject kind of says it all, I have seen several walls constructed in Thailand an the mortar is very sandy but not sticky, and they tend to crack very easily.

Also they put a huge amount of mortar between the bricks, common to see as much mortar as brick.

I have been told and I think I even read on here but I can not find it in search, to add a bit of lime to the mixture and make sure the brickies don't go overboard using the mortar.

Does anyone have any suggestions? rolleyes.gif

  9. Hi Darel, you can have your opinion and that's fine. You are in the fortunate position to not need financing, and being in a country where you can both go down to the land office, get a number and buy the property in a matter of hours. In this case, I agree, a deposit is not really required.

For some bizar reason you are suggesting that a seller should keep a property on a promise of someone wants it when it is being marketed for sale. It is normal if you want a property to go buy it out right or lay down a non refundable deposit. It is also normal to have some penalty for the seller if they were to neglect that contract.
