  1. Why is Thailand importing cabbage from Europe?

Because the same reason that EU have banned Vegies form Thailand, full of chemicals that were banned in the west 40 -50 years ago.

How about they do some E-Coli test on the Thai supermarkets Tesco Lotus, Big C etc.

How come I have to buy imported avacardos here? Kiwi's? A decent apple, a decent size orange ? They can all grow here.

I do wonder a little bit though why people don't buy organic Thai cabbage though !

  2. Thanks for your voluntary help,

Just Ian's tip of sending it direct should save me 24,000b in bank fee's from my personal experience last month not putting this demand on the routing. A big thumbs up.

Out of my closest 6 banks, BKK Bank is the only one with an English speaking staff member. Their exchange rates are also the best, well, best of the local banks anyway.

(Referring to money changers not foreign banks).

Yes, it would be cheaper for me to fly to oz, and bring cash, declaring it out of oz is all ok, but I would be scared shit less of being "finned" by corrupt customs officials in Thailand, for maybe tieing my shoe laces the wrong way, combing my hair on the wrong side, or what ever reason these thieving officers come up with, that's my experience with them anyway.

    Thanks again

  3. I am looking at his calculator fro land tax.

On the right it indicates my wife can only dectuct 8% after the first year. Is that a correct interpolation?

    http://www.siam-legal.com/realestate/property-tax-transfer-calculator.php

The land is owned by my wife, Personal not in a company. So is it a simple matter of doing the calculator and then add another 30% more Withholding Tax off the selling or valuation price, (presuming it was in the 1 - 4 million range).

So this would be similar to personal income tax right? rolleyes.gif

  4. "The paper trail required for PR applications is extremely burdensome, so there is no point in going through the hassle with zero chance.

I note that the Immigration officer disingenuously omitted to point out that the Interior Miinstry failed without explanation to issue the annual quota for permanent residence applications for 2010, so that no applications could be made at all last year. There has also been no official explanation as to why the applications from 2006 to 2009 are all stuck in the Interior Ministry."

From Post#29, anyone shed some light on this, sound beyond stupid to me.

Not saying this chap is lieing, just <deleted> ???

  5. This is a 2 part question, I have been told that those very large towers that host mobile phone antennas and many times dishes pointed horizontally are micro wave beams. What are thee microwave beams used for? They are everywhere.

I was told that many of these use frequency that will kill a unprotected sat feed if you are in the path of a microwave beam. eg. Thai sat frequencies are protected in Thailand, but the Astro frequency is not and these can play havoc with you.. What about Australia Network?

Is there any way to tell?

I am looking at living near one of these towers, anyone know of nasty side effects? rolleyes.gif

  6. Just to avoid confusion, it was meant to be BK bank fee on the end. My silly typo, was not referring to green team bank in that post.

When using Westpac, I always seem to be missing about 1.3% from the BK Bank TT Buying Rate after factoring in the Aust fixed fee and the 500b K Bank fee.

Thank you ianguygil for the above post and information rolleyes.gif

EDIT: Oops, after looking at the BK Bank site that is now up, I think I screwed up, ANZ has a relationship with the green team K bank, I can find no reference to ANZ on the Bangkok Bank site when using the search function. I think my mistake. Just clearing up so pleople in the future reading this get better information.

  7. I saw that the Australian bank ANZ is a 'partner' bank for bangkok bank on their website, (on BK Bank website, the one that is down now). So would one expect it to be in my favor to send AUD from a ANZ account?

When using Westpac, I always seem to be missing about 1.3% from the BK Bank TT Buying Rate after factoring in the Aust fixed fee and the 500b K Bank fee.

    Maye it's the middle man?ph34r.gif

  8. I am asking on behalf of wife, but it is of a personal interest to me of course. If she buys some land, say one Rai (1800m2 and builds it up 3m, puts a drain in and a retaining wall, are these cost deductible form the selling price for tax purposes? Assuming all sold within the year to keep it simple here.

In this case, it is owned in my wifes name, not a company.

These improvements have directly made the land more valuable.

What if a company bought the land?

  9. I do agree with you pip.

Spoke to a credit union on Oz I have an account with. Said 3 Options, they don't personally send TT, they use a bank.

    1. They can route it via Westpac and get 30.49b with a $25 fee and sent it as Tahi baht

    or

    2. through Americian Express at a rate of 31.69 with a $25 fee and it comes as Thai baht

    3. send AUD through Westpac with a $25 fee and ti get changed at Bangkok Bank here at 32.075

All three have a $25 fee form the Australian end and a max 500b at this end (aprox $15)

    Thanks.

  10. Is it better to convert AUD to Baht in Australia and then wire baht.

Or better to send AUD and get the bank here to convert t to Baht?

Last time send $30,000 AUD to Bangkok Bank, the exchange rates were pretty stable, was checking my account several times a day and noting exchange rates on the BK Bank website hourly on buying rates TT. So I knew to within 2hrs of what exchange rate to use, was still 12,000b short of what was expecting.

On the Australian side, it was routed through Westpac bank and a $25 fee additional to the wire TT was imposed, I was assured that Wespac do not charge a commission, and BK Bank say they max there fee a out at 500 baht. Still don't know were that 12,000b went.

Any Tips please ? I need them !!!!!!cool.gif

  11. Carefore and Big C do not.

Villa is way to far away, but I know they sold them last year, nice ones actually with creamy non Asian milk Chocolate.

Tops and Tesco, are at best a pain for me to get to, but if they stock it, I would make the drive.

Any member here know if they stock them ?

  12. I normally avoid Thai political discussions, to be honest, I don't really care.

In very simple terms, can anyone tell me why this Sondi chap, who is a Yellow leader/supporter is calling for a boycott? I mean, why not go in running at full speed ahead? I thought, elections are due, why not slog it out, which could mean anything in Thailand of course. ?

  13. And these are the same people asking to be let loose into the Australian community.

Simple solution, identify the culprits and send them straight back to whence they came, preferably on the same leaky boats they arrived on.

Read the article closely. Do you see any mention of where the detainees come from? Are they Angry Americans? Silly Swedes? Saucy Spaniards? We'll never know, as political correctness and privacy laws discourage country of origin statements..

Last time I tried to walk to Australia, I found out it is in fact still an island laugh.gif If they came by leaky boat, do it Thai style !!!!

Really, doesn't matter if a Yank, Swede, the amount of BS that they make good people jump through who are married to Australians and at a huge cost, why should a yank who turns up saying, F you, I am not going to go down that path get special treatment if they set fire to their desired place of residence. I think everyone know that it is 90% going to be relatives of a Lebanese Pizza shop or a camel herder in this case. ph34r.gif

Maybe they should hold the trail on Bondi Beach laugh.gif

  14. 1. Don't stay overnight on the River. The party boats start from 5AM until midnight, and there are usually 2 or 3 every 5 minutes or so. Their music is so loud it will rattle your windows. I couldn't sleep at all.

Very True for a Friday and Sat night. Not a big issue the other times. Bus loads come form Bangkok after work, get shit faced, then bus it back leaving at 3am.

Here is an interesting link I found in another forum.

    http://www.thailand.embassy.gov.au/files/bkok/ANZAC%20DAY%202011%20-%20Embassy%20Website%20Update.pdf

I like Kan, coming from where are, I would go up the motorway, with the airport on your right, then go under Bangkok on the ring road to the other side, pay the tolls to avoid the traffic.
