  1. You will not get an ED-visa, but your permission of stay will be changed from whatever to an ED-based permission of stay.

It is possible to do this in Thailand at any immigration, but as with non-immigrant 'B'-visa (for teaching-purposes) you will be redirected to a consulate/embassy abroad.

THB 15,000 is probably THB 1,900 extension-fee and THB 13,100 tip for the immigration-officer involved.

  2. Found a new car wash place last week:

    It's off Soi Khao Noi.

From Sukhumvit into Soi Khao Noi, pass the rail way tracks and turn left into a small Soi opposite the Bangkok Bank.

It's a nice, clean and spacious place and they really take good care.

A sedan inside and outside and underneath (basically everything except the engine) for only THB 120 and you'll get a card: 5 visits and you'll get the 6th visit free. (How can they live?)

Give them a chance!! They deserve it!

  3. In the past many nations have complained about the safety in Pattaya.

The Germans, The Dutch, the French, the Australian, just name one..........

Most Russians come on group-tours and it is pretty common that hotels ask for guests' passports in order to make a copy.

If a group tour arrives, they take the passports and return them the next morning or later that day. No problem what so ever.

  4. A work-permit in application is similar to actually having one.

It happened to me a few years back, when my employer was in the process of getting my WP and then I left.

I supposed that I was still safe with my valid non-B, but NO!!

At some point I was at overstay and luckily the immigration in Pattaya found out.

I had to pay my overstay the next day and got 5 days to start a new WP-application process.

  5. We planned to visit Pattaya this weekend to meet up with friends visiting from the UK.

This might explain why hotel prices seem so high, Hilton 13,600 Baht, Holiday Inn sold out, with others asking a lot more than I would normally expect to pay, or is this becoming the norm?

You name 2 hotels which offer a 1st class view on the fire-works; next weekend the King Hilton Deluxe will go for THB 7,900 per night. (agoda)

Apart from that, high-season is coming up, so that will increase the room-rates.

  6. I don't understand the problem between the motorbike-taxi-driver and the passengers of a metered-taxi.

The driver of the metered-taxi is responsible for any damage caused by his taxi to 3rd parties. He should have taken care, that passengers can't just open a door without being sure that it is possible to do so.

OK, this is Thailand and everything works 180 degrees against the clock.

As said in another post: motorbikes aren't allowed to pass cars at any spot they like; motorbike should keep the utmost left of the road.

  7. Anyway.

Around 5.30 p.m. I found the guts to join the slow moving cue through the flooded area, opposite Tesco South Pattaya, towards Sattahip.

Once passed the flooded area a turn left to the East and after a quiet drive on roads, covered with dirt, mud and sand, I arrived sound an safe at the Naklua entrance of motorway #7.

At 7 p.m. back home in Bang Saen and started my journey at 2.30 p.m from Jomtien complex.

But I don't worry......Thailand will be hub for tourists and as far as technology concerns........well!!

  8. A work permit proves that you are a traceable "member" of the Thai work force.

Therefore a WP can serve as a prove of address and may enable participation in the Thai Social Security which includes unemployment benefits and healthcare (both not free!!!).

You even may build up some kind of pension.

You are also able to obtain a credit card from a Thai financial institute but often at ridiculous financial requirements.

A mortgage in your name is impossible, a car-loan may be possible.

    Dis-advantage: you'll have to pay income-tax.
