  1. Dtdee, falling in love with a bargirl/boy isn't stupid, it's just a part of the process.

After a few of such experiences you will get suspicious and critical towards your new counterpart and in worst case scenario paranoia. See it as a lesson learned.

Regarding your warnings: You tend to care for someone and therefore you give advise on what and what not to do. THAT is a waste of time; people usually do not listen to advise that will cost them a small fortune, because that's what they think.

  2. Can anybody explain to me what is a pretty?

They are the girls in high heels and tight dresses at car shows, sales conferences, etc.

Paid to stand around and look pretty. At 33 too old to work any more.

Not paid to have sex as another poster has suggested.

There's girls who earn a living being 'smart' (YS?) and girls who earn a living being 'pretty'.

Smart girls go to university and pretty girls go for a collagen-treatment to a doctor.

Girls who are smart and pretty is a fenomenon Thai society can't deal with.

  3. Not many people with similar problems.

As an alternative I saw on DW-TV today:

    - nasal spray with panthenol

    - nasal oil

    - spray a mix of salt-water with camilla-extract

It seems more like an addiction than a real health-problem, although a long use of regular nasal-spray can damage the nose-mucous

If a problem with the mucous is the base of the "addiction", then a short term use of cortisone-spray might help.

Anyway, I suffer from the same problem and will visit a doctor one of these days.

  4. Afaik, the OP was in the process of getting a WP, but resigned her job before actually getting the WP.

That may be.......just may be a problem.

A cancellation of a WP-application is similar to a cancellation of a WP.

If the Immigration database is doing its job, this might pop-up when the old passport # is entered.

Let's just hope, that the former employer didn't cancel the WP-application.

  5. My list of Questions

    1. Does having a one year multiple entry visa still require a border/visa run every 90 days? Why?

Yes, it's a multiple entry non-immigrant visa and grants 90 days of stay at a time

    2. Mermaids has said they use visa run service at a cost of $2000bht. Are there addition fees for the passport stamp, bribes, etc.

Visa-runs (only applicable with multi-entry non-immigrant-visa's and visa-exempts) may cost in between THB 1900 and THB 2500.

    3. Mermaids also indicates different types of visa's use different border crossings. Is this true?

Maybe that Mermaids has experience with this. Usually it doesn't matter what visa you carry at whatever border-crossing.

    4. The Thai Embassy in D.C. said "you have to apply for single entry if you have to stay longer than that you have to extend in Bangkok" (that is a quote). Is this true? Why would there be a need for a border run.

I just guess, that Mermaids gave you the advise to apply for an multiple-entry non-immigrant ED-visa. Just a few countries submit multiple entry non-immigrant ED-visa and usually a single entry 3 month visa is submitted.

For the rest of your stay you depend on Mermaids and their assistance in getting your 90 day-extensions.

Just in general: If Mermaids is so poor on their information, please do not rely on their knowledge on visa-matters. Let them stick to the diving issues.

  6. i was under the impression you had to hand over your old passport when applying for new, though this might not be the case if you had and adequate amount of alternate id

No you hand over the old passport when you receive the new one.

........or, they make the old passport invalid by punching holes in it or cut the edges; there might still be a valid visa in it!!

Take care that you do get some kind of notification, that the new passport replaces a certain old passport; some immigration-offices do require such a letter, especially if they have to transfer visa or extensions of stay.

  7. The compulsory will remain.......it's compulsory, no way to upgrade.

So, you will have to look for an insurance ON TOP OF the compulsory insurance.

As stated in previous post; won't be easy, but it depends on the age of the biked.

Usually it is more about personal damage and hospitallisation than damage on the bike.

You could try an accident-insurance at Lotus or any of the banks.

Please remind: Most travel-insurances do not cover accidents/damages to motorized means of transport (jet-ski, motor, car, etc.) Some even reject claims for hospitalisation after an accident.

  8. This is still being actively discussed by VT6 residents. People are very freaked out and worry that VT6 could easily become a suicide hot spot. I hope not!

Every building with 5+ floors is a potential suicide hot-spot.

As long as you keep discussing the issue, you won't have the thought of doing it yourself.

I always wonder, what the thoughts are of someone who dares to jump in the last seconds of his life.........worst case is: regrets!

  9. Yesterday I turned around, grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and gave him a good, stiff, clip round the ear. He was shocked and apologised profusely while his erstwhile fellow jeerers fled in double quick time.

    So far, you're lucky.

Probably the kid won't tell his parents (loss of face), but if he does..........!!

Physical punishment is forbidden by law since 2005!!.

    Let's hope for the best!

  10. When DMK was BKK, or when Don Muang was Bangkok's only international airport, the price was approx. THB 800 to Pattaya o/w.

This price didn't change when BKK (Suvarnabuhmi) became Bangkok's first Int'l Airport.

You can bet, that the taxi-fare will increase with at least 25%.........longer distance and more toll to pay.
