  1. Did you say that you've been living here for 5 years and also do not speak Thai? It might be time to start learning (more) Thai. Imagine living in, say, America for 5 years and not being able to speak english. Imagine all the flack you would get from Americans. Just saying.

I like the idea of adopting a Thai nickname though.

    Jinx

    damn

  2. It is disrespectful, and you should say something to your g/f.

After 5 years you dont speak any Thai? I have been here about the same amount of time and can at least hold a basic conversation. Try learning the language, if for nothing else but personal growth. If I was back in the USA and had a daughter with a foreign boyfriend who didnt even attempt to speak English I may lose some respect for him as well.

Very good example and fully agree.

  3. At first I thought that the reverse camera was a must-have with such a large truck and that I'd be mostly driving in Bangkok, however after almost a year with the truck the reverse sensors have proved fully sufficient, accurate and durable. The camera is a nice-to-have if it were cheaper, especially to see what is behind that large rear end.

  4. Bought a dunlopillo mattress from Homepro. Very expensive 18k baht. It's pocket springs with 2 in layer of latex combination. Been trying to break it in for a month now and my back hates it! #1 buying an expensive matress doesn't mean that your body will like it better. #2 laying down on it for 15 mins in the store will tell you nothing regarding whether your body will like it. Takes at least 2-3 nights to see if you'll like it.

Slept on a cheap 5000baht matress for the past 2 years just fine. Not great but good. Life lesson learn. From now on I'll start off buying cheap

Haven't had a good nights sleep in a month. TOnight I'm sleeping on the floor.

  5. Their comment on weight and a hair cut are part of a person's appearance that can be controlled or modified. The dark skin thing can sort-of also be modified. It's not really the same thing as you out right calling someone ugly haha come on now.

umm...you said you had gained 9 kilos and she "kindly pointed out" that you gained weight? wow she was ruthless.

  6. AIS coverage map is useless. And the helpful employees at DTAC said they don't have coverage on Koh Lipe.

Anyone know first hand if there is 3G coverage on Koh Lipe and with which carriers? If not, which has the fastest Edge?

    Also any recommendations on activities?

    Thanks!

  7. Subscribe to one of the Ranger forums in Australia.

So we can read even more speculative posts from the general public? wink.png It's almost a full-time job just making corrections on the Thai forums I visit, LOL biggrin.png

    You are right about that!

I stand corrected on the AAT output. If I recall correctly, the 85,000 units was my 'guesstimate' of all Rangers churned out through late 2012 (approximately 1-year), extrapolated from numerous news articles about the new plant and booming Ranger and BT-50 sales being quoted last summer. Yes, it is ALL speculation when you have a multi-model production facility. If I recall, the existing, older part of the plant spits out Rangers, BT-50's and Everest's and the much touted new bit of the plant does the Fiesta and Mazda 2's & 3's. However, their website doesn't mention the all-new Focus which according to Ford's August 2012 press release, stated it would be assembled in Rayong as well.

There still isn't any evidence of mechanical or QC issues with the 3.2 or the associated A/T. The local, OWNERS forums in Thailand would indicate any production or quality issues pretty quickly over here so not a stretch to assume the Aussie OWNERS would be quick to complain if there was a serious issue. I find it hard to believe that there's a pool of incomplete 3.2's sitting in Rayong waiting to be sorted properly. I think they just did their sums wrong regarding the build ratio of 2.2 versus 3.2 and local demand for the latter. Mazda seems to have benefited by having big-engined BT-50's readily available for Thailands roads as they never targeted the macho Aussie market. With that styling job, how could they!?

False statement. Check the aussie sales figures on the BT-50.

  8. Perhaps check with the local Herman Miller agent? They are located in the building in front of the Nai Lert Hotel on Wireless Road.

Thanks NMT ... sorry...I typed the OP in haste. I meant a knockoff of this type of chair as I can't yet afford real Herman miller furniture. biggrin.png

That's quite a timeless design. Originally from the 1970s/80s or retro style?

yea I'm beginning to realized most of the furniture in my youth that sticks out in my mind was a herman miller or designed by Eames

  9. Hi,

I'm looking to have a built-in cabinet unit (~ 5 x 2.75 meters) with a murphy wall bed (5ft) built for my condo in BKK. Does anyone have recommendations on a good quality builder and the cost range? I've only found one http://www.wallbedfurnitureshop.asia/. Anyone with experience with them?

Also looking to knock down a bedroom wall and having a slidable wall installed to open up the living room into the bedroom. The wall is fairly thin and not structural (7-8cm).

    Thanks.

  10. Having seen more martial arts, Van Damme etc type movies than anyone I think I am more than qualified to comment on this subject. When I am harassed by a drunk in a bar I go for the "leap from the chair at lightning speed, while rotating in mid air (picture Matrix slomo scenes), then kick his limey ass with a roundhouse kick to the head". It's very effective for a hero like me, and though I am on the wrong side of 40, overweight, unfit and generally slow witted, I am more than confident I can do it in my head.

and of course after you knock those scoundrels out, don't forget to do the Van Damme dance!

  11. Greetings,

For those who are using True as their mobile and internet service providers, which is the best package? I will be moving into a new condo next month and was thinking to sign up for True's docsis online at home and I am already subscribed to their 599/month mobile plan. Is there a package for the mobile and home internet that provides any freebies like tv? If I'm already a mobile subscribers , can I jump to a new combo package? Please share your experience.

    Thanks.

  12. Ordered already.

The owner, Mam seems friendly enough and keeps in constant contact on email. Will have to wait till after New Year's to get my mattress though.

gl555: so how is the mattress working out for you? I'm in the market for a new mattress myself. Would you recommend it?

  13. Does anyone know if you can play music from an iPhone through the USB connection? I can only seem to get it to work through the line in port and headphone jack...

I thought the stereo was meant to have iPod integration.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated;-)

Oh and for the sake of others asking wait times etc. I just picked up a white four door Wildtrak from Ford in Chiang Mai after only a few days wait...

    Yes,

    connect the usb cable

    press the AUX button

Select iPod in the truck's menu

it should start playing, otherwise select a track from the menu.

  14. 11in is a bit small but depends on how you are going to use it. I've had the 13in C2D model with 256gb ssd as my only personal computer fo rthe past 2 years now and it's the best laptop/computer i've ever owned. I take it with me all the time bcs it is so light (can't emphasize enough at how light it is), no need to bring the charger most of the time and boots up in seconds. The laptopo has over 350 charge cycles on it already and is still getting anywhere between 4-9 hours battery time (depending on usage)

Get the larger harddrive because you can't upgrade later. The OS takes up some space. Then you install some programs and that 64 gb is gone. (I even think 128 is too small.)

that being said, the mbAir is getting less attention now bcs of the iPad mini. :)

  16. bought one on a whim and i love it.

after a week of owning it i realised i hadn't picked up my ipad 3 at all.

Yeah the mini is perfect. I would like a retina screen on it but the size and weight is just so great. It makes a big difference. And it's cheaper than the others, too. I recommend the mini to any first time iPad buyers.

yep agree 100%...it is the perfect size. The screen doesn't feel too small or cramped at all. And better yet, it's so light and portable that I can bring it with me most of the time. Before this I was thinking of switching over to an android phone to get a bigger screen so that I can read comfortably and never thought of getting the full sized ipad as it always seemed big, esp one-handed , standing in the train. We have the galaxy tab 7" at work and the screen is not as nice and does feel a bit small, but is ok. IMO, the 7.7, 7.9, 8 inch screen sizes are the sweet spot.
