  1. At least one thing to make you smile while you wait is all those "BT50 dolphins" driving around ;-)

    Glad to make you happy.

I'd never really thought of the comparison before, until someone mentioned it on the BT50 thread, it's a belter I think! :-)

Mine is a great white shark.

I might have a big Jaws decal made for it.

yes there is a resemblance biggrin.png

  2. So I ordered the BT-50 on the 12th of July, and now the 24th I get a call in the a.m. saying "ITS HERE".

So now my addons are being added on.

    Meanwhile at Ford Motors Thailand......

Which model? I ordered mine the end of February and a letter from Mazda came yesterday but it is in Thai so I will have to wait a to get it translated. This week I have seen four different 4dr 4x4 BT-50 Pro in my area with either no plates or red plates. Just wish one of them would have been mine.

Talk to different dealers , and tell them you really want it . I got a 4x4 , while i was waiting for a 4x2 .

Yes talk to several dealers. You are on a waiting list with your dealer not with the Mazda factory.

  3. Go with your heart and gut instinct.....Where would you feel safer?

I don't know about the UK. But I absolutely feel safer walking around Bangkok alone at night than I do in any big US city I've been to. You'd have to be mad to do so in places but I don't feel the slightest concern walking around at 3am in Bangkok and have done so for many years. The white middle class suburb I'm from is quite safe but the actual city you wouldn't want to be walking around downtown alone at night.

Yes I agree. I spent most of my years living all around Los Angeles. The streets in BKK are much safer. Violence here, like the morning BKK nightclub fight, arise from a dispute...in that case probably over a girl. Or maybe a fight or shooting arises from a traffic incident. Or maybe drug-related or money related. Or school-gang related. This type of violence happens all over the world.

However in the US, in some neighborhoods you can get jumped by gang-bangers for looking at them wrong. You can get beat to death by attending a baseball game. People have been shot sitting in their living rooms from drive-bys. Senseless violence at a movie theater. Serial killers. Road rage. The Police. Cults. Texans. Mexican gangs. Naked face-eating zombies.

  4. I'm curious why anyone would buy such an ugly car as this when the Ranger is the same and much better looking?

Mazda really dropped the ball on the styling on this. I just can't understand how they signed off on it looking like that, it's really one of the oddest looking pickups out there, only narrowly beaten by the Ssangyong.....

At first I ordered the ranger because, well, it is a pretty dam_n good looking truck. But eventually cancelled because I could not deal with the horrible Ford service...thinking to myself, 'this is how they treat me and they haven't even gotten my money yet'. Automobiles being a product which you know will need maintenance service in the future, one has to also consider service and the company they are buying into and so I didn't feel that I could put up with Ford.

When I saw the pictures of the BT-50 I was as puzzled as most and was also thinking, this is the ugliest truck EVER! what. the. F. It's a shame because the Ranger seems awesome and so too should the BT-50 but good grief, it's ugly.

Went to go look at the Isuzu. nah.

So I ran into the BT-50 when they had it on display in the mall. My first reaction...hm...the headlights and facia isn't bad at all. Went to sit inside...wow...really nice interior! Taillights...didn't like em. Few weeks later, decided to go to the dealer and take a drive. Second time seeing the car...the hood lines and front profile of the truck is looking really good up close in person. Taillights...still didn't like em. So decided to order the truck because I liked the performance and the options. Mazda...Great service! 5-star all the way, good communication, everything as promised. got the truck in 2 months, got the blacks plates 5 weeks after that. So IMO...the truck grows on you but looks like crap in pictures. Taillights...I actually like em now.

Now that I'm driving it, I've gotten several compliments and a lot of looks (don't know if they are good or bad looks). But who cares, I really like the truck.

  5. After trying to make that appear better 4 times, I'm giving up and leaving it.

Sorry, copy an paste doesn't like Thaivisa.

Reply back and ask them why then do the BT-50s, coming from the same factory, have the 4 point sensors. Are the electrical systems substantially different?

  6. I wouldn't exactly try so hard to pin this or fit this into Thai culture unless it happens often, which I doubt it has because everyone is trying to speculate on what happened here. I'm still pretty perplexed myself.

Think about back home... not every acquaintance follows the rules or norms of your culture. Some people just come off as weird and some interactions with people are just awkward. Maybe this was just one of those times?

  7. I have ordered the Mazda BT-50 as my Ford dealer has had 2 weeks to tell me when the XLT will arrive and after a visit and a phone call & text still no reply.

Mazda are much keener for sales and at 874K I get a better deal all round.

So I am going with the Mazda. Its a 3 month wait (onto 7 with ford for WT 2.2), but what the hell if the ford arrives first I will be shocked.

Its going to be fun to drive into Ford in the BT-50 and ask for my 5k back as you are too late you tossers!

I'll be driving a dolphin though!

The looks will grow on you as I am really loving the looks of my BT more and more. It's not boring (yeah it could be a big smiling dolphin ). Y'day parked the truck and before I could get out, had a guy jump out of his car and started snapping pictures of it. Perhaps going into his dolphin photo collection.

Plus with the 874k model you'll get the reverse sensors w/graphic display, bluetooth, usb, steering wheel controls, lsd, leather and cruise control over the XLT. Mazda service is much better. My service dealer is top notch; delivered my truck in 2 months, white plate 5 weeks after that and even serves coffee, tea, water or juice while I wait.

  8. Who has automatic wipers?

Is it only on the WIldtrak models?

In the manual, it says Auto wipers OR the other one. Can you switch or doe they mean they are for different models....

Because the Auto wipers sux ass.

Here is the page in the manual

    7549781170_7d71d971b1_z.jpg

There should be a small optical sensor near the rear view mirror which senses the rain. Perhaps that needs to be looked at or perhaps your window tint is interfering with it. You should take it into the dealer because it sounds like it is just your unit that has this problem.

  9. My landlord complained one day that my truck's alarm went off in the middle of the night. Well I told him that's not possible, my truck didn't come with an alarm system. Searched a bit and what-da-ya-know, turns out that the BT-50 does have an alarm and interior motion sensor.

    165529zatvyayzadc2z6qa.jpg

The interior sensors are activated when you arm the alarm.

    Triggering the alarm

Once armed, the alarm is triggered in any of the following ways:

    • If someone opens a door or the bonnet without a valid key or remote control.

    • If someone removes the multi function display.

    • If the ignition is turned to position I, II or III without a valid key.

    • If the interior sensors detect movement within the vehicle.

    • On vehicles with a battery back-up sounder, if someone disconnects the vehicle battery or the battery back-up sounder itself.

If the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn will sound for 30 seconds and the hazard warning flasher will flash for five minutes.

Any further attempts to perform one of the above will trigger the alarm again.

  10. Oh reminds me of when I was walking through the streets of London at night a few years back with a female friend, when a group of drunk guys walking arm in arm plowed right into my friend. I turned and shouted out some obscenities with fists clenched and soon saw that I was outnumbered 5-to-1. Scared but ready to start throwing but she pulled me away as I most-certainly would have gotten my ass kicked. I blamed that on the English culturally not wanting to lose face blink.pngwhistling.gif

  11. I noticed this as well in the hustle and bustle of BKK and also became a bit obsessed with it. As far as I could observe it is not out of malice or superiority or loss of face(is that the default nowadays).

Firstly, as I observed it is somewhat dependent on your walking pace and speed. If you walk faster than others, you'll have to dodge and give way more. If you walk slower than everyone else, they tend to move around you. Try it.

Secondly, it has to do with your combined mass. If you are 2+ people or larger, people tend to walk around. Conversely, if you are walking alone, a group may plow right through you. Regardless of Thai or not.

Third, people seem to give way to people that look of power for obvious reasons.

Fourth, if the other people are chinese, all bets are off. tongue.png

This is just my opinion and observation.

BTW, busy metropolitan cities, people are usually very ruthless. In NYC, a petite female friend of mine, new to the city, was shoulder checked to the icy pavement by an a-hole in a business suit because she didn't give way. Nearly knocked unconscious.

I've been told by the NYC locals as well that when walking in busy midtown/uptown, DONOT stop and obstruct the flow of walking traffic by looking up at the buildings, you get people very upset.

  12. Yes, exactly. It's a big friendly truck that's always happy to see you . It's like driving a giant golden retriever.

Are they 20" rims? How did the ride quality change when you changed them?

Yes 20's. Bit harder on rough roads as you would expect but all good otherwise. The bitch was getting them balanced and aligned. A slow drive from the caryard to the wheel shop, wheels on then hit the freeway. 100 kph and a serious wheel shudder sets in, wheel guy says maybe a weight has dropped off and to go anywhere for a balance and he will reimburse. Pull in to the next b quik and they rebalance and then spend about 2 hours trying to align the wheels. Finally say its done and we hit the road I a pouring storm so no chance to test at high speed. Next day shudder is still there, but a bit less...arrrgh. Drive back to Bangkok and give it to Mazda as the b quik guys said the issue wasn't from the the rims. Mazda tries to dodge by saying we have changed the rims but pushed a little and they agree to take a look. They ended up sending it out somewhere the next day And now assure me it is fixed and tested at high speed. The head service guy said they always have issues when big rims are used.

did they use one of these wheel alignment machines? 1274946068774_hz-fileserver2_833320.jpg

for anyone else i would suggest this place in chonburi. http://www.toppowerservices.com/index.php.

  13. If you don't like it here, you can move to one of these countries where your coffee will be served by a graduate student or your burgers be made by a civil engineer.

    http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/06/not-where-they-hoped-theyd-be/100320/

Reuters recently assigned a number of photographers to capture images of a struggling generation. The result is this series of portraits of graduates from around the world who have been unable to find work in their degree fields and have ended up in poorly paid service industry jobs. Although their current positions may be disappointing, the subjects in these photos may count themselves lucky to have any job at all -- the International Labor Organization estimates the number of people aged 15 to 24 without a job at almost 75 million. From a cook in Athens with a degree in civil engineering to a waiter in Algiers with a masters in corporate finance, these young people have spent years studying hard to compete in the 21st century, only to discover that even the most desirable qualifications mean little in a distressed global economy.

  14. Ordered today (2.2 / 4 door / Hi-Ricer / Auto ) - Delivery time as per contract until the end of August

Today I received a call from the Mazda dealer - that ordered car (silver color) is ready for collection.

I am a little surprised, because the delivery time was only 2 weeks.

    Will inspect the car tomorrow...

Must be observed something special..? What Mileage should have a new car...?

Mine is still waiting ... well i expected it .

Back to your post , when i ordered mine , they told me that if i order a different color then white or black the delivery time is quite a lot shorter .

In the western world it is somewhere between 0 and 50 km . I expect the same in Thailand .

yes i believe when i picked up mine it was 15-20km. Congrats albhol. Dont forget to report back with your new truck.

  15. I have had reverse sensors mounted on every car I have owned in Thailand (3) and there was never any question about voiding of the warranty. They are a very simple installation with one power wire. The reverse sensors will the very first thing I install on my Ranger after delivery whether by Ford or do it myself. They are a life saver.

The very first day I had them on my Navara I was about to reverse on a side street that I had parked on and they started beeping.......could not see anything in the mirrors. Got out and looked and sure enough someone had parked their scooter right behind me. If I had back up I would have crushed the scooter and you know who would have been in the wrong and would have had to pay for the damages. I will not have a car in LOS without them.

I will have think about the camera as it is a lot of money.......

I think the sensors are good enough and camera is overkill
