  1. Have you checked the prices buying direct from Apple Thai e-shop? http://store.apple.com/th

They are mailed directly from China via Hong Kong.

Yes, the price difference is very similar (+200 baht). However not knowing what the availability situation was going to be here, I had him order them on the first day they were available online in the US.

Thailand seems to be getting new Apple products a bit faster than before, which could be good news for the future.

  2. A good friend of mine is visiting this month from the US and I asked him to bring me 2 iPad minis. One is for me and the other I'm giving to my friend as a gift. No intention to resell. I'd like to have the gift in the original box but he said he'll try to bring both in box. I believe I read 10,000 baht is the max amount for gifts but If Customs searches his baggage, seeing 2 ipads in box, I'm assuming they will jump to conclusions.

Has anyone had issues bringing in merchandise in the original packaging? I'm trying to gauge if I should just have him unbox at least one of them.

  3. Try Wearnes Mazda. They have 2 dealerships close together on Phahonyothin near Central Ladprao and Chatuchak. My salesguy is name Awwd (ออด). 089-533-7944. However I'm not sure how well he speaks English.

thanks mate ,i will give them a call when I get over there ,so you have the BT-50 ? what model and how do you like it ?

I will read the bt 50 thread but what do you think about the 2.2 motor if yours has it ?

I have the 874k AT model. Receiving calls and playing music from my phone through bluetooth is great. Step into the truck and it connects automatically after the first time is great. My first time owning a vehicle with this feature. The cabin is surprisingly quiet. Seats are comfortable and lumbar support is great for longer trips. The reverse sensors are useful.

No complaints on the 2.2 motor. Plenty of torque, however low on hp, but still no complaints. It accelerates from a stop just great.

No problems with the transmission but sometimes it will kick into gear a bit. It's probably typical with AT trucks. I've driven the old ford rangers, which I think are great trucks too, and those would do the same. Perhaps I'm just used to a sedan transmission.

Right now my only complaint, as you'll see in the BT50 and Ranger threads, is that these trucks are being delivered lacking proper rust protection even though the dealer promised underside rust protection.

Overall I'm very happy with this truck.

  4. With the BT50 (and Ranger), the interior features I like best are the bluetooth, the rain sensing wipers and buttons on the steering wheel.

You should probably go and test drive every model that you are interested in ...

I can't say that the features you mention would be of the slightest interest to me, but I'm glad you like them.

As for a test drive, chance would be a fine thing. When I was looking to buy none of the dealers/brands I approached had a vehicle of the (common) type I wanted available for testing. A couple of dealers had something similar (mostly with manual transmission rather than the A/T I was after). One had a model that I could look at but not drive.

Car dealers in Thailand are a dead loss.

wow that sucks! I don't think I could buy a vehicle that I didn't first test drive. I drove the BT-50 before deciding to book it. Test drove the Ranger around the parking lot at the motor expo which was nearly pointless. Also was offered a test drive in the Isuzu but lost interest before hand.

Not all dealers in Thailand are a loss as my mazda dealer is excellent. And that's why for me, quality of service is one of the deciding factors of my purchase.

  5. With the BT50 (and Ranger), the interior features I like best are the bluetooth, the rain sensing wipers and buttons on the steering wheel. As far as the motor, the 2.2L has plenty of low end power. The ride is surprising good and planted while driving up the curvy highway to Chiang Mai. Although driving over speedbumps at low speeds it swoshes back and forth like a small boat just like any truck. The cabin noise is nearly as quiet as high end sedans as mentioned in several road tests.

Any savings in fuel economy is negated when you have to search for a large enough parking space. laugh.png highway fuel economy is great but city fuel economy is pathetic.

You should probably go and test drive every model that you are interested in as everyone here will champion the vehicle they bought, therefore all of them are better than the rest.

  6. I ordered mine the very end of Feb. They are only making 400 BT-50 Pro 3.2 4x4 for Thailand a year. I have had my 3.2 4x4 for two weeks, within the first week I have noticed heavy rust on front end suspension nuts. I will take pictures tomorrow.

    Any photos mate?

My truck is now over 2 months old with 5km and 700km from the sea, here are some examples of the rust on the nuts. Anyone else?

Yep I've got the same rust. Going to bring it into the dealer next week for collision repair and also ask them what they're going to do about the rust.

  7. Hi,

So 2 months of having a BT-50 Pro... very happy, I think I will change the speakers as they don't handle bass very well, any recommendations?

I want a bloody tonneau cover, I have seen ONE on a BT-50 Pro (2012 ) at a gas station a month back, and for the life of me I am getting nowhere on this.

I think I would take anything now, bugga the looks.

I am trying to get one thru pickupway on Rama 2 road, but I chase them up, they don't chase me!!

So anyone know of another installer/retailer who can actually speak inglit and also does a good job?

F@CKWIT FORD took 7 weeks to give me my 5k back.

I parked smack in the middle of the yard, security went nuts and I made a bit of a scene, 4 days later the money came.

    The dealer is a prick.

    Perhaps try this place:

    or this place:

Sorry, I haven't been to any of these places so can't comment on their Eng or service. Just heard of them and passing the info along.

  8. What are the most common types of food contanination here? Salmonella, E.Coli, and Rota?

I've been here 2 years and have had 5-6 cases of food poisoning. The latest from eating packaged luncheon meat. Violent vomitting, diarrhea ... it wasn't pretty at all.

  9. Yep

    Hi Guys,

I have a 2.2 Ranger WT on order and a visit at Ford Pattaya yesterday revealed that they don't know when I can have the truck, but sometime next year. I have also several times asked Ford for a test drive in any Ranger model, but no, no test cars around.

Today we visited Mazda Pattaya and had a look at the 2.2 Hi-Racer auto to 874K bath and I must say I quite like the interior. I asked for a test drive and they said no problem as long as I can drive manual transmission, so off we went.

I am very impressed with the riding position and how quiet and nice the truck fells, good pull from the 2.2L Ford engine as well only thing I felt slightly bad (during a very short test drive) was a noisy vent fan at speed 3&4.

I like the gun metal blue on which there is a 2 month waiting time, 1 month for some other colors, I am not interested in. They don't take orders on 3.2L.

Freebies BT50: 1 year 1st class insurance, matts, window film, bed liner, no. plate frames.

Ranger WT freebies: Matts, window film (have bed liner already) and that's about it. Only free 1year 1st class insurance on XLT models.

Now my big dilemma is: should I cancel my WT 2.2 order and order a BT-50 (I can't take it before Jan 2013, due to work) or should I wait for the Chili WT I really like but haven't tried. We have a 2006 Honda City to technically we can wait, but you know how boys are waiting for Christmas presents, LOL.

I hope you guys are give me some inputs helping me make up my mind, thanks.

I will post this in Ranger forum as well.

I ordered a Ranger WT 2.2 4x4 in January and March 1st ordered a BT-50 Pro 3.2l 4x4, I kept both orders and the Mazda arrived first. Thank goodness it did, I love it! At first when I ordered the Mazda I liked the ford looks better on the outside and the Mazda looks on the inside. I love in the interior and exterior I like even better than the ford now. It drives like a dream. Sure the 2.2L might get better fuel economy than 3.2L but I have driven both the 3.2l makes the truck a whole package of pleasure. I use it about 30% off road and 70% on road, it preforms like a tank off road. The extra torque of 3.2l off road amazing. Just wish I owned an automatic drive-thru car wash to clean the daily mud baths. I would only change one thing, I would remove the extra-fake-useless tail lights in the tailgate like poster Superkatsu did if it didn't cost extra.

You mentioned the mud baths. I don't take mine off road very often but I find that just a small puddle on the road results in dirt being sprayed down the whole side, especially the near side. Does anyone else find this annoying or am I being too fussy? Better still, has anyone found an improved mud flap design or other solution to reduce the spray down the side?

I agree, I think what is needed is not better mud flaps but fender flares. The flat/flush design of the fenders leads to mud spray from the tires down the side of the truck. It seems to be fine spray not heavy mud from the tires. My solution is just get the truck extra dirty so I do not notice and hope someone comes out with some nice looking fender flares for off road.

Agreed, fender flares would be nice. It looks like the rangers got theirs already...

  10. Anyone discovered how accurate the "km until empty" readout is? I was down to 6km before refueling today.

The computer is probably trying to estimate the "km until empty" based on either your average km/ltr or your current km/ltr, so it's probably different for each person and probably different each time.

The accuracy is probably based on how consistent you are on the gas pedal.

    That's my guesstimation.

  11. Does anyone have past experience in enforcing an NDA agreement or patent in Thailand? Or even perhaps the one who has breached such haha.

If you had a business plan & model and needed to present the idea to potential business partners, investors and/or mentor, how could you protect yourself? I realize that even in the western world this is a complicated matter. Some folks you share your idea with might be in a better position to implement the business faster than you could. Aside from assessing the capabilities of that person or group, how could you BEST protect yourself?

  12. Is the population of transgender and homosexuals growing in the last century or at least the biggest lump (no pun intended) of the population presently between the ages of 13 and 45? I wonder if it is a steady growth?

I've always suspected there are some environmental factors at play here whether it's plastics, hormones or fertilizers. Another odd thing I've noticed since moving here is the number of young women (again approx. 13-45) that have pronounced dark mustaches. It's not a genetics thing because I have several Thai female friends back home in America, who are 2nd generation born and raised, who do not have mustaches and do not shave, wax or laser as far as I know. I don't know, maybe my observation population is too small to conclude.
