I think the idea was targeted at a person who isn't already settled with a family for 19 years lol.

There's investing like you appear to have done and there's trading. The latter can be very lucrative using price action with leverage if you care to spend the time looking into and studying it - many free resources online. The benefits are that you are entirely responsible for your own risks and rewards, there is no capital outlay like when starting a business and in your own case no need to speak! Not for everyone tho.

Very interesting post. Thanks for taking the time to submit it. A quick Google search of "price action with leverage" reveals information that looks complicated and precarious, but I'll look into it a bit more.

There are lots of opportunities to make money online.  That is not the issue.  The difficult part is getting paid.

Paypal is now off the table as a payment solution if you are living in Thailand.  Even if you have an account in your home country you will still be geoblocked if you try to access it.

Simon43 bumped into this problem already because he was receiving his teaching wages via PayPal.  I think he is now using Payoneer but that could also be blocked in Thailand moving forward.

Ignore any suggestions to do written or task rabbit style work online because ALL of that work will be absorbed by AI in the next 5 years.  Poorly informed posters here are warning you that for unskilled task you have to compete with people in the third world who are happy to work for less than $5 per hour....LOL...  AI works for free.

Facebook recently launched Threads which is a Twitter (X) style platform.  Twitter cost billions of dollars and millions of man hours to build.  Zuck built Threads in three months using a team of just 6 people running AI agents do all the heavy lifting.

I trade junk funds.  They are relatively stable but channel between 2-4 percent each month.  I just use bollinger bands and no other analysis tools.  I set a buy order just inside the lower band, and then a sell order just inside the upper band always using GTC orders.  I skim at least 2-3 percent each month on each fund.  I trade in 100K usd blocks.  If I get trapped in a trade the underlying funds pay 11% + monthly distrubution anyway so worst case scenario is I only get 11% return but of course if trapped in the trade I am exposed to greater risk of default in junk portfolio held by the fund.

Very interesting post. Thanks for taking the time to submit it. Sorry, but I don't understand junk funds. Do you mean funds made up of high-risk stocks and bonds, or just one or the other? Also, it's amazing to me that you trade such a huge amount of money, 100,000 dollars per trade, on something so inherently risky. The returns you mentioned are not guaranteed, unless I'm not clear on that part. No way I could even consider trading anything near that much. So even if I got 2-4%, it wouldn't be worth it for the smaller amount of money I could invest. Continued good luck on your system for making money.

Yes, I meant stock market, or others of same; commodities, futures, currencies.  You're already in, so that's good.

Don't know who told you we lose money, as I retired early because of trading, and most made in pennies.

Then you must have the magic touch when it comes to buying penny stocks because every one of them I've ever bought has ultimately completely collapsed in value, costing me tens of thousands of dollars. The only way I've made money is by buying mutual funds from Franklin Templeton and annuities with Pacific Life Insurance Company and Lincoln Financial Group, all reputable and established companies and all investments based on the advice of my professional investment advisor. I'll never gamble and lose my money again by buying stocks that eventually inevitably become totally worthless.

Youtube ASMR videos? Lots of beautiful places in Thailand.

Thanks for the information, but these days, due to health concerns, I don't travel anymore unless absolutely necessary. That's why I'd like something that I could do sitting at my computer. Besides, I'm sure there are many videos of beautiful Thailand already posted to YouTube. I'm sure I couldn't add anything to those already there.

OP, why does it have to be an online job ? Why not just buy/setup a bisiness, plenty of guys own laundries, small restaurant, coffee shop, rent scooters etc. You dont need to work in the bisiness, and it provides an income.

Thanks for the advice, but small businesses are just too risky. My companion had a small massage shop, strictly legitimate, that didn't make enough money to cover the rent each month, never mind make a profit. Later, she had a small coffee shop with the same result. I've seen scores of small businesses close here in Chiang Mai, even before COVID-19 struck. I don't have the energy or enthusiasm needed to try to make a small business turn a profit. In addition, I have a heart condition called atrial fibrillation, which is an irregular heartbeat. The stress generated by seeing my small business ultimately fail could trigger a fatal stroke or heart attack, so no thank you. Sitting at my computer typing or reading is stress free, so I'll focus on that instead.

Mention was made of online teaching, which is what I do for my income (I will start to draw my $1,000 UK state pension in about 22 months from now).  I'm not a doctor, so have no idea if you could get your GERD under control so that you could teach online.  I teach in 30-minute segments and typically earn about $2k - $2.5k a month.  (I teach science subjects, so my rate of pay is higher than teaching English ESL).  I live a modest but enjoyable life on less than $1,000 a month (I save the rest).  I no longer live in Thailand but reside in Laos.

Thanks for the information, but, again, I'm quit sure that schools just wouldn't be interested in hiring a 66 year old, especially one who hasn't taught in 13 years. Several years ago I tried applying for some online jobs and got absolutely zero interest. Most of the schools I applied to didn't even bother to reply. I've met many young people, in their 20s, who are teaching online. They can easily get jobs; I can't.

You could try Appen. They offer menial online tasks. If you're looking for an extra 20,000 THB per month to supplement your pension, then it could be worth looking at. I have never worked with them myself, so I can't give you any info on them, but they have been around a long time.

Thanks for the information. I checked the website, and it looks very interesting. I'll start investing time in it starting tomorrow.

It's a huge improvement on VPNs, which are detectable anyway. You're not disguising your location, you are accessing your own virtual PC from inside the destination country. There are a huge number of providers for people requiring VPSs in the USA.

Thanks. I'm definitely interested and will look into it right away.

Once you've set it up, your PC is basically in the country where your VPS server is located. You're accessing your virtual PC remotely from Thailand. I've been using them from Thailand for 5 years. Provided you find a good company, your Internet speeds will be much faster too. If you need to find the best service for Europe, PM me. There is another option that is even better, but much more expensive - a dedicated server. Most companies provide both options.

Thanks again. I would need the service to America, and not the expensive one. It's not that critical an issue for me, but if I could improve on my VPN, I'd be interested in checking it out.

I know an 80yo, a 77yo and a 75yo that work in west. They make $20 to $70 an hour.

Very interesting, but in my case, I've been out of the job market in the West for 29 years, so I don't really see what job skills I could offer a potential employer who could find a much younger man to do the job instead of me.

A better solution is getting your own VPS or VPS root server. It's like having a PC in your destination country. I've used VPSs in Europe and USA. For example my current server is in Germany, the Internet speed is 2 Gbps and it costs about 11 Euro per month. You connect to it via Windows RDP. I use them for trading but you could run any business on them.

Very interesting. That's something I've never heard of. Thanks for the information. I'll look into it.

Go get a job in the west.

Thanks for the suggestion, but what job do you think I could get in the West at 66 years of age? Who would hire me and to do what? The last time I worked in the West was in 1994, which was 29 years ago. So I don't think looking for a job outside Thailand is really a viable option.

If you made lots why you poor now? Yes day traders mostly lose or give up due to stress

I'm not poor now by any means. I didn't say that I was poor. It's just that my expenses have continued to increase while I have been retired so that I'm not bringing in any money other than what I make on the stock market, and it has been stagnant for a few years now. I'm only preparing for a future that will be more expensive than today.

    Market trading.

Can teach yourself, and mock trade till you got handle on it.   It's full time though, and depend what exchange you use, need to be active during their hours.

Been out of it for 15 year, so don't know what online brokers are available, and that was for USA anyway.

Sorry, but I don't know exactly what you mean by market trading. Trading in which market or markets? I've been invested in the stock market for the last 20 years, during which time I've made a lot of money, but not from trading. I have mutual funds my investment advisor put me in that I sell when I need money. I tried buying penny stocks on my own, but every one of them lost money, so I stopped doing that. If you mean day trading, from what I've read day traders always lose money in the long term.

Sorry to hear about your financial situation. Disaster at your age.

My 2 suggestions are a bit daft but here goes

    1. Move to Issan - one of the big cities. Find an educated lady in her 40s and go for it. She will support you if you are genuine. Seen this a few times actually. There are load of desperate single ladies up there. 5 yrs ago I knew an aussie guy who kept all his assets back home but shacked up with a 40 something. Free rent etc. He only outlayed for a moped. Hes living in her house etc. The cheap life....

    2. If you're hell bent on being single and battling it yourself then download CNBC app on your phone and read it daily. Scroll down to the 'Trending Now' topics. 5 everyday and one is always about ways to make money etc. I read one last week about making money online. Cant remember now of course as Im rolling in cash anyway and of no real interest to me.

    Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. Moving to Isan would be a huge change. I'm settled in Chiang Mai with a companion I've had for 19 years. It would be extremely disruptive for her, her daughter, and her two grandchildren if I left. Regardless, I'm not prepared to stake my future on the remote possibility that a successful woman 20 years younger than I am would find me to be attractive enough to support. There's no doubt whatsoever that such a woman could find countless men far more desirable than I am if she were looking for a paramour.

I'll check out the CNBC site, and thanks for wishing me good luck.

Yes it is. They want you to be in these countries for tax residency purposes.

Anyway, your biggest issue is not taking care of GERD. As a reflux sufferer I know the issues you are facing, but all those online ideas will not materialize unless you have specific skills. Not most, but ALL online courses are a scam.

Your only choice would be selling online or teaching English. You say you are 66 years old no one will hire you, so that means you would still be open to teaching? Ask @simon43 about it.... I think he taught online.

Thanks for the information. I only looked into teaching again out of curiosity. I really don't have the energy these days, even for online classes, and I don't want to spend time talking due to the GERD I mentioned in my post. There are countless people much younger and more energetic than I am who are willing to teach for about $10 an hour. They are the ones who can get hired and work, not me. I'll keep looking for an alternative.

Not sure what nationality you are, but at 66 surely you are drawing your state pension?  You can live quite healthily and happily on $1,000 a month in Thailand/Laos/Cambodia/Philippines.

I'm American and have been getting Social Security since I turned 62. Retiring at that age means I get 75% of what I would have gotten at full retirement. But for me, full retirement wouldn't be until 66 years and 6 months. Since I wasn't working and paying into the system, there was no reason to wait. Unfortunately, I didn't make enough money working in America, so that I'm only getting $575 a month this year. That's not enough to live on, even in Thailand. That's why I'm looking for some kind of supplemental income.

Or just the length and a girl. Would be enough.

I'm afraid the length is only average. Finding a woman of above average beauty, for a price, is easy enough in Thailand. At my age, however, any photogenic qualities I once had are long gone, so that no one would pay to see any part of my body. Thanks for the suggestion, but OnlyFans is not the answer.

18 months ago I would have agreed, but AI has changed everything, it can even write film scripts or whole books these days

Same with affiliate marketing, think of a product or idea, it's now been done 1000 times before, starting from scratch even if you learn how to make a website to sell a product, getting it ranked now on Google, is almost impossible.

I don't know what the answer is to online income, but DO NOT sign up for a course because that is how they are making money in a kind of pyramid scheme, unless you know plenty of people that will buy the course of you.

This guy has some useful free tips, but again it's mostly doing it to promote his course, but he does help you get started

Thanks for the helpful information. It was an interesting video, which I'll follow up on.
