  1. I`m sorry to hear your report.

I live in naklua and it seems certain areas are attracting opportunistic thieves.

I was walking back along either soi 16/1 or 16/2 and witnessed a motorbike thief rob a Russian lady walking her baby in stroller, happened so fast there would be no time to react or prevent the robbery.

Very sad to witness the effect it has.

It is a shame that in such a international holiday city like Pattaya, the police cameras are not widely installed and used. That is why again and again these sort of robberies happen.

If this kind of robbery happens back in my hometown, normally it will only take a few hours for the police to catch the criminal because almost every street and corner has camera. Pattaya government really should do more efforts!!!!

I also feel hard to understand why so many retired farangs want to settle down here. This place is even dangerous for young and strong people. It lacks the basic security feeling of life. I know here are many good thai people, but those very bad thais can easily destroy your good impression and leave the nightmare haunting you for long time...

Update: last week, a German colleague (young man) was robbed of his iPhone on a Song Tiew. I joked to my hub I need a pistol as a present on my birthdaysick.gif

  2. Since I was talking about the robbery happened to me in the other post, I remember another robbery.

One night last year, at about 11PM, my husband was heading home alone on his motorbike. When he stopped and waited to turn into soi 18 on Naklua Rd, another motorbike hit him hard from behind. There were 2 men on it and they got off and said sorry. My husband's motorbike fell down and he also got injured and was bleeding. The two guy came to him, and they "pretended " to help him stand up. In fact, they just searched his pocket fast and stole his wallet away.

At that time, there were also other people on road and saw this. But when they realized what had happened it was already too late.

And... once, I also saw 2 guys on motorbikes grabbed away the wallet from an old tourist who just got off Song Tiew and was about to pay the driver.

I wonder are there cameras on the main streets?

Anyway, being alert will never be too much.

  3. So to confirm, they ARE open for lunch, correct?

Sorry for my carelessness (I am a bit absent minded recently because of the robbery !!!!). Yes, they open for lunch too!!! That day, we arrived at 2PM, and they still served food at a fast speed :)))

The noodle hotpot is rice noodle with beef/pork and mushroom and tomato and pickled vegetables (quantity is enough for 2 persons). I guess westerners don't like it , because my husband doesn't like this sort of things. He never likes food which is soft or in soup.. Of course, he has no right to represent all farangs!!!

  4. Extremely sorry for your horrednus experience, main thing is you are ok and the items can be replaced....as for people laughing and mocking your post, shame on them rolleyes.gif

Thanks for your kindness. Yes, I am lucky because my 4 month old baby inside me is not injured. In fact, I just returned from China last weekend. And I decided to take a walk because it is good for pregnant woman. The robbery happened only at 7:30PM !!!!!!! Not far away from my condo... In the past, I often go around with motorbike. So I never expected this will happen. Quite frightened and shocked.

To those who laugh at me, maybe you will never understand. Even among the robbers/thieves, there are different levels. In my country, some thieves post back the remaining (some will even write a note ), because they really only need money (maybe they are really poor and need money badly), and they know how anxious the owner will be if he loses his very important docs, stuff etc... For me, inside my bag, there are some stuff which is not expensive at all, but very dear to me..... . Of course, not all robbers/thieves are so "noble" and keep the bottom line of morality....

Well, also thanks for the remind of another guy. Now I will go to report to the police station on Naklua Rd.

  5. I was robbed of my handbag in Soi 16/2, Naklua Rd on Monday eve.

I reported to police next day. Inside my bag, there are also lots of keys/ IC cards besides the money and handy.

Anyone has experience: Any chance that I will get my things back? (am not optimistic )

And, since there are some of my husband's business cards in the bag, will the robbers be "kind" enough to post the remaining things to the company? In my country, sometimes, this sort of things happen.

    Alas.... bad luck indeed....

  6. On their business card, it says they offer: Yu Nan/Si Chuan/Northern China cuisine. And they are proud of their dumplings and Yun Nan style beef noodles.

Since that day, we already had lunch somewhere else, so we didn't order much. We ordered dumpling (100 baht, leek and port inside), beef noodles in hot pot (very tasty to us Chinese, but not sure if westerners like it) and a vegetable with mushrooms, plus a bottle of water. Cost 340 Baht in total. I would say it is not cheap, but also not expensive. Reasonable.

In the menu book, I also see those typical Chinese dishes. And some sour sweet dishes too. Also thai food like fried squid rings, etc... Quite a lot of choices.

There is a rest place inside, where you can see many tea cups and tea trays. Quite interesting.

  7. If Soi 7 3rd I would place it near Mum Aroi . Correct ??

    http://maps.google.c...&sz=17&t=m&z=17

    Yup, you are right.

    My driving route is:

From North Pattaya Road, turn onto Pattaya 3 Rd. When I reach the (1st or 2nd, can't remember ) traffic light, on my left hand is soi 6 , on my right hand is soi 7 .

The restaurant is just on the corner of soi 7. It is quite a large place.

So, the location is on 3rd, Soi 7, between Pattaya Nuea and Pattya Klang giggle.gif

  8. A big surprise!

We happened to find this CN restaurant this week. Nice, Clean and has a big menu. Most important, the taste is good.

They offer many kinds of CN food, and also has Karaok on 2nd and 3rd floor :))) And they have Thai food too. The owners are from Yun Nan, the province which is on border with Thailand.

Compared to this restaurant, that one on Soi Welcome of Jomtien is..... really.........$*&*&(*&$#(*#@($*# (nasty words omitted) We decide to go there next time with the PILC ladies.

The owners are not good in English. But I helped them translated some routine useful words. Besides, every dish has a photo. So, it shall not be too difficult to order.

The location is easy: just at the cross of Soi 7 on 3rd. If you see some CHinese words on the window glass, then you find it .

  9. Urgent! Help !

A friend told me, she met a lady the other day. That lady said: she read a news from newspaper , saying now can return tax for buying condo. So the lady went to her agent, and got some tax money back for her 1 room condo. She did not reveal much info but said one should go to ask the agent, and the returned tax money is not so little!!!

Now the lady is back to US and my friend could not contact her for details.

I asked our agent but they say they don't know this and need to check this up.

So, hereby, I ask, anyone of you has also read this news? Any more detailed information?

    Thanks a lot !

  10. Last time, the boss was complaining the biz is not so good and he may close the restaurant and back to China in summer.

Well, their new location can not compare to floating market, where most of the customers are bus tourists and only eat once there, so the food quality is not that "vital". But in Jontiem site, customers go there with the expecatation of proper Chinese food. But their management is too lousy indeed.

Until now, I have not seen another CN food restaurant in Pattaya (Dim Sum Hongkong style does not count). It should be a good biz here if done properly. Pity the boss does not seem to put enough effort into it. For some of their dishes, even I can cook better than them , ho ho ho drunk.gif

....Or, they are just taking some time to get used to the new environment here. Hope they improve soon !!!!passifier.gif

  11. Last time I ordered a Tou <deleted> dish, the very simple family style one. But to my suprise, they did not use any green onion in it ( green onion is a must in this dish). It is hard to understand because one can get green onion everyhwere in Thailand at cheap price.

  12. Call the help line and they will set you up with a plan that suits you. Yes if you have 100 baht, go to China for 3 weeks and come back but don't use it then you should have 100 baht left.

Yes, there are always enough money in the card.. But if the expire date arrives, then I can't use the money at all no matter how much is it. That is really stupid

  13. Hallo,

I'm using "12 call" SIM card at present.

I seldom make calls, just use the phone for receiving calls and send messages.

But the money in card often expires fast (after expiration, then I can't send messages at all). Yesterday, I charged 100 baht, and the new expire date is March 3rd. It means, when I am back from China after 3 weeks, I have to charge again, although I will not use the phone at all during my absence.

What kind of SIM card has long validity?

    Thanks

    Susan

  14. My friend advised to the boss that he could at least freshly make the breads for the customers who eat inside the restaurant. But he bla bla bla that it is inconvenient.... We still have no clue why should it be "inconvenient" ?!?!?

We decide to go there in future mainly for "wheat food", but should not hold high expectation for other stir-fried dishes. And the toilet is not so clean either.

The restaurant could have done much much better. But the owner seems quite contented with the current status angry.png

.....Since Thailand is so close to China, maybe Farangs who like Chinese food can take trips there. Can go to cities like Suzhou, Hangzhou, Xia Men, Kun Ming, etc.. They are all with long history and the cost is cheaper than that in Beijing, Hongkong and Shanghai. Spring is the best time to visit Jiang Nan (South of Yangtse River area ). Besides the inexpensive and good food, you can also enjoy the scenery, art, tea, Chinese massage, and herb medicine etc ...

This is the expat website for my hometown Suzhou : http://www.whatsoninsuzhou.com.cn/

Normally, every big city in China has its own expat club and website which offers lots of info about everything.

Well, sounds like I am the travel agent cowboy.gif... I am not!!!! .. Ok, I shut up nowmfr_closed1.gif

  15. Went there 2 times with friends. The owner family is from North East China, which is close to Russia. They speak quite good Russian but no English or Thai. They used to run restaurant in floating market for 2 years and just moved to here for 1 month.

    My impression:

    1. Boiled Jao Zi is indeed good. 70 baht for 10 Jao Zi. Northern Chinese are good at making wheat food.

    2. Noodle with Soy Bean Paste is tasty, 60 baht. It is really "noodle". I also saw some farangs eating them. This noodle is a bit like cold noodle in Japanese/Korean dishes.

    3. Dumplings, with meat or leek inside. They are outside, in the big pan. If you buy the freshly cooked ones, they are very jummy. But if they are cold, then not so nice. But still, many passing by people buy them

    4. They have roasted duck, 1600 baht. We did not try it this time. The boss said it is no need to order in advance, normally it takes 1 hour to make this. One time some russians ordered one but could not eat it all up cause it is in big quantity

    5. They have quite some spicy dishes, but not the exactly Sichuan style . I've given the peppercorn to the lady, maybe she will use it next time in mutton.

    6. North East Chinese food involves lots of wheat food, stewed food and stir-fried food. They use lots of sauerkraut and wild mushrooms too. I did not try that yet so have no comment.

    7. The price is averagely 2 times of that in China. And they also have quite some western style food.

If I have time, I will go back there sometimes to try more dishes :))

  16. 花椒 (peppercorn) has a special taste, apart from its nice fragrance. Not really spicy, but will give a "numb" and "shrinking" feeling to the tongue (and lips too!!). It is widely used in Sichuan food and is also a herbal stuff. It can cure stomachache, bodycoldness, toothache, belly worms, skin problem and also hair loss. I have one unopened package here but did not use it because of the fear that it will flame up the body heat in such a hot tropical area.... But, I will give it to the cook tomorrow if he doesn't have it here smile.png))

  17. Am quite amazed that some Farangs' Chinese are pretty good! Sia Pow, in standard Madarin Sha (smashed bean) Bao (dumpling).....

Yes, it is funny that Shanghainese, Beijingnese, Hongkongnese etc.. they can't understand each other if they only talk dialects...
