  1. In the foyer of the BKK VFS building, is a translation service.

What they will do is copy your original documents so you do not have to wait. Then translate.

Give them your VFS receipt number and they will take the documents up to VFS when translated. NO extra cost.

    Make sure you translate

    birth certificate

    id card

    passport

    family book

    marriage cetificate

    change of name certificate

You do not need police or medical checks on application. The embassy will ask you get a medical and will give you a number to take to the hospital when they want the checks. You cannot get a medical without this number

GO to BNH hospital near the embassy. 3000 baht. NO appointment. Results are sent to the embassy. You will not see them.

Thai police take 10 days for a certificate, pick or post. Get a letter from VFS. In the police centre they take fingerprints and photo. When you get the police certificate take it to VFS and they will send it to the embassy Take you original receipt with you.

You cannot get into the embassy without an appointment.

We did all this successfully in May

  2. When i got to PP airport from BKK in May, i stood in line when i got to the counter i said i did not have a pic.

I was taken aside and made stand alone away from the crowd.

A few minutes later someone came and said give me your passport and 1000 thai baht.

10 minutes later he came back and said i can go.

In my passport was pasted a 30 day visa.

    Yes i am sure.

I paid no other money going in or out

  3. My own personal opinion is that case officers are being allocated quicker to files than previously, but processing times have increased.

Perhaps the Embassy has a new system in place where applications are allocated to CO's ASAP but standard operating times apply. Who knows??

Thanks Bridge. In the letter the CO did say 10 months so maybe we got in early enough in May with the application to avoid the longer processing times.

Also when we lodged the spouse application we lodged a visitor app at the same time.

Before the visitor was approved they asked for a medical and police clearance for the spouse visa before they would approve the visitor visa.

Then they phoned and said only a 3 month visitor is approved because we want you back in 4 months for an interview.

A lot of ifs and buts but at least now with the case officer it is moving forward.

The only additional document asked for is a thai birth certificate for my wife,

Another maybe is that she has had 2 visitor visas now since we married, so maybe that helps speed up the process of a spouse visa

  4. Amphur's outside BKK generally won't do farang marriages. THe exception being Pattaya and ChangMai. Even in BKK the only amphur we could find that would do a marriage was in Silom.

Completely wrong. Any ampur will marry you, provided you have the correct documentation.

Malct, it is up to her whether she changes her name on her passport or not, but if she does then allow the time for this as she cannot do it until after the marriage and will have to do it before she submits the visa application. It takes about 5 working days if she applies at the passport office in Bangkok, longer if from outside.

This post and the one following it may be of interest.

You say that "All going well, She will be in the UK for Christmas." If that is your time frame remember that the spouse visa will be valid from the day it is issued for 27 months and she must be in the UK for at least 24 months in order to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. If her spouse visa expires before she has completed the 24 months in the UK she will need an expensive extension, known as Further Leave to Remain. If delaying her departure from Thailand for more than 3 months after the visa is issued she can request in the application that the start date of the visa be postponed for up to 3 months.

I can name 7 arounf BKK that won't marry farang. Rat Buran and Phrapradaeng being the 2 i can remember easily

  5. WE did the same. Married in BKK then applied for a spouse visa 6 months later.

With the application we gave copies of the old name passport, id card etc, and copies of the new name id.

When you marry you will get a name change document to take to the amphur in her home town. When the name is changed you willget a document from the amphur. The name change will be recorded in the family book also.

Give a copy of everything with the application. In Thai and a translated copy of everything to english. Even the family book must be translated

If you get married wednesday you won't have time to submit friday.

The new passport takes a few days, the new id card and name change must be done iin her home town, so after marry you need to go back with all the marry documents to change her name. Then get a new passport after the name change.

    The get eevrything translated

  6. What does that have to do with a phone interview?

It should be noted that the OP is asking about the Australian embassy.

I've amended the topic title to show this.

Just to inform all would be candidates who have been refused a visa just because you address the original refusal the embassy can in fact find further issues with any new application.

  7. I had to take some extra documents to the embassey a few weeks ago.

I was made stand on the footpathin the sun and i was talked to through a hole in the gate by a bad mannered thai who thought she owned the embassey.

I was told in no uncertain manner that i would not get in without an appointment and to take to documents to VFS.

I argued that i was asked to bring the documents and i said it is my embassey and i want in.

She told me no not under any circumstances am i going in without an appointment and then she arogantly left me standing there.
