I hope Taskin goes, he reminds me too much of "Fat Boy"

Hi jhj2000,
When you say she has a full settlement visa do you mean permission to stay in the UK indefinitely? I'll proceed on that basis.
If you wish to have the stamp transferred to the new passport you will have to pay. Alternatively do as you suggest and carry both the old and the new passports, showing both to the immigration officer in the UK.
Cheers,
Scouse.
p.s. It may also help to carry the letter from the Home Office which she will have received at the same time that she got the indefinite leave.
Thanks

My wife has a new Thai passport but her full settlement visa is in the old one. Does she need to pay the £250 to get the stamp put on her new passport before she goes to Thailand for a holiday or can she show immegration at Heathrow both passports when she returns to the U.K.

She should first seek help from within the Thai community in the U.K. She will find that good advice is readlily available and effective and is based on years of experiance of this sort of problem, usually a combination of Thai empathy and farang wisdom through age and experiance.

It is up to you to decide when you pay tea money. If you are 100% right on what you are doing you should not pay but if you are 99% right you should find a way to smooth things along. Sometimes you can just offer money and problems will be solved, other times you might have to pay someone to do a service for you, although they do nothing. It’s up to you to judge the situation.

The policeman that committed the murder is a well known member of the mafia in Thailand. I believe that he had a reputation for being a “Godfather” in the province. He is probably in Burma or Laos and the chances of him being caught are slim.
Why waste Embassies time when they could be doing better things like stopping young girls being raped.

The discussions are getting a little out of hand. Let me give two examples
- My sister in law that had to flee from bangkok in fear of her life and her chirldrens because she couldn't pay a small debt.
- A prominant politican in Chonburi how got shot and killed in his car.
Not long ago there was a case of a woman who got her hand chopped off.
Please let us have some dignaty and confine the comments to what is relevent. Start another thread for other issues, rather like a book of condolances.

Yes lots of things are well run, including myself, my wife sees to that. Taskin, he's well oiled by his sponsors. Massage parlor owners used to be well oiled but now they are born again. I suppose that the street parties will keep going after closing time. The traffic will move, slowly and Laos’s people will still dance slowly. Drinking bars will still be demolished quickly. What more can you want.

I believe the notice said you get 5 days to sort yourself out. Anyway if you stayed in Burma you could help- Ang Sang Suu out. She's been forgoten again.

I did vote, and my answer was Thai. I have been happily married for many years now and we have ½ Thai farang son and daughter.
I get the usual smoke and drink too much but I also get when we go to a disco in England with the siblings and I dance “You make me shy (embarrassed)” or when we go to a party or wedding in Thailand it’s the same. I suppose that I am still addressed as uncle and not grandfather is a bonus.

You've been with him for 10 months, no one one this forum has been with him for 10 milli seconds. Use your own judgement. If you are unsure you should know what to do.

I can't see what the problem is. The notice says "cash or a cash document exchange" I would take that to be Thai-ise for proof of resources, whether cash bank statement or what else.

If I go to a place that I've been before I will sometimes slip some money to ensure that I get good service.

The sniff test is better and satisfying as well.

They happenevery few years but are usually minor. I think the last one was 3 or 4 years ago.

Well I would worry if I were you. They will all come back and start a bloody war over you and you'll be the only victim. But then you will enjoy it.

You will not find it easy. I wanted to take my girlfriend to the U.K. for a holiday just to meet my family and have a look where I lived. On entering the British Embassy I was told that I would not get tourist visa for her and that I should apply for wife type visa. I was annoyed about this but decided that I had no chance of winning without protracted interviews and appeals. I paid the extra money and she got her settlement visa without much trouble. One thing that it did do was to force us into marriage earlier than we had planned. All is well we have been together for a long time now and are both happy but we spend 6 months of the year in Thailand and the other in the U.K. I don’t blame the Embassy for the way they are applying policy you only have to meet the Thai community in the U.K. and you will find that a good proportion of Thai women that arrive in England are there for prostitution and nothing else. One of the reasons we spend 6 months of the year in Thailand is that my wife hates being stopped on the road and asked if she wants to go out with someone. Yes the vast majority of Thai women that are married to farangs are not on the game but a lot that come to the U.K. are and continue to be when they arrive. Even some that come as students are using the rules to make money.
I don’t think the Embassy is unreasonable and I have found that they will respond to phone calls, e mails promptly and will give you good advice.

Me, I'm happy with my packet of fags, few beers and sometimes a bottle of 100 pipers when we go out to eat. Oh and occasionaly an ice cream when McDonalds have a special offer on. Thats all the pocket money I get so I don't really have any choice really.

As far as I am aware the U.K. Immigration and Nationality Act does not have a time limit of 10 years for cases of deportation because of criminal offences. There are different rules for the family of deportees but as I understand the current act states “long term of years”.

lopbur3 is right, go to control panel and select "date time lang ...". In the dialog box select Languages and tick the install complex scripts box. Click the details button on the same dialog it will allow you to add Thai to your system.
To use Thai open the application that you want to use, click on the keyboard option, either in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop or sometimes a bar at the top of the screen and select Thai. You will find the font sizes are very small but just increase the size.

I don't think that in general muslims do train thier combats at the age of 4. There are countries in the world where very young children are bought up with arms and fighting. Most of those countries, unfortunatly have been supported by funds from the USA. One of the saddest images that I have ever seen in my life was of small girl set on fire in a country in S.E. Asia. I've met lots of people without limbs in the region as well. I don't think the USA has a good record on looking after cany country other than themselves, unfortunatly they have draged other countries into thier war. If there is corruption and injustice in Thailand it is magnified many times in the USA.

I suppose it's just to see if I'm on my own in this

No don't tell her. buy her a small present and take her somewhere to buy the big one. Buy a bottle of fizzy booze and good chocs at the duty free then I think you'll be O.K.

I think it will discourage a few more people from leaving when the visa has run out. It will certainly make the newly found fiancé think about funding his departure when the money has run out.
