Hi Zaz and Psychocid10,
The way I see it is that the southern Muslims were asking for autonomy for years because the Thai governmet never respected them or offered them the same facitilties they offer Buddhist Thais - I guess this is because Thailand has never been collonised and it is fiercly protective of that and maintaining the staus quo. BUT the Thai government authorised the shooting of over a hundred Muslim youths in a mosque less than a year ago and subsequently ordered the arrest of hundres of Muslim men who later suffocated in custody. So I guess feelings are running pretty high????
The thing that REALLY worries me is that some of the Muslims in the south who are very young may get 'indoctrinated' by visiting fundamentalists. That would spell disaster.
It's all very confusing - its seems Britain handed over these four southern provinces after givin up rule in Malaysia - the four were formerly part of Malaysia.
Zaz - good on you for trying to be friendly. I am only new to Islam but I am very open minsed about religions and I am trying to ubderstand it all. I wouldn't have converted had I for one second thought that Islam preached violence.
As I speak I can hear the call to prayer, I checked with local Imams and there is no talk of violence or hatred in daily sermons. Only that of love and family happiness etc. And I live only hours away from where all the killing is taking place.
Ok, later,
Azero

Hi Kartica, I live on an island near Krabi. The bungalow prices here are very cheap right now. The are no bars, no nightlife things and it's a relatively quiet place - apart from the usual mororbikes etc etc. Very basic in terms of facilities and you need a bicycle or motorbike to get around. If you go via me, I'll talk to the bungalow owner and negociate you a good price - I help them out with bookings as little English is spoken here.
Check out Tiger Air new flights direct to Krabi and very cheap.
Can you tell me your plans re the Yoga - is it a space to teach that you need?
We could organise regular group yoga holidays here - perfect.
What do you think

okay sure, some of you were not accusing Muslims ! Just wanted to say a few things. Sorry to have sounded offish. Venting my own frustrations. I am just, like you all, a bit tired of all this bombing in the world. And I am also scared. Where will it end? I kknow from living in an Islamic community that there is solidarity and that the fundamentalists will never stop. So it's scary.
Hey on a silly note, I am new to using this forum, how do I do things like change my user name or add a little picture please. Also, if I bookmark it will it come up on the same page or on different topics? Cheers in advance.

Do any of you racists out there - that is most of you atlking on this forrum about the bomb near Big C - REALLY know the history of the "DEEP SOUTH" of Thailnd or indeed the true meaning of the KORAN and ISLAM ???? I think not. I am not going to go on about it as I am too busy doing more important things with my life but I just wanted to say... Please think before you let your nifty fingers hit your keyboards.
I am a farang, converted to Islam due to marriage. I am trying to read about the relgion and understand it. I do not condone violence and NEITHER DOES ISLAM. It is AGAINST Islam to kill randomly.
You, buy saying bad things about Muslims in general, are perpetuating the myth that all Muslims are bad. Grow up or go back to school.
Myself and my family and all those who live around me are Muslims and are the nicest people you could imagine.
Get a life before you start condeming ALL Muslims for the sake of a few twisted youths. There are millions of good Muslims.
Finally - maybe you've been living on palnet Zorg, but the goody goody Budhist population in the south have been popping off Muslims for DECADES. Check out the history books.
From - a happy, kind and caring Muslim living in south Thailand

Hi D,
Thanks for writing. Well I had had a few encounters with thai men before meeting my husband on an island so I knew about them a bit. We've been together a year now and everythings seems pretty much fine. I made it very clear from the beginning that I would not tolerate infidelity and he agrred. I worried myself sick about it because I didn't want to be hurt - like us all - but then I felt I was being silly so now I try to just relax and believe in him.
The big thing for me is when women come to our bar and flirt with him, He giggles and laughs with them just as he does with everyone but I sometimes get upset and then we argue because I have a few too many drinks and acuse him of flirting. But deep down I don't think he do anything to hurt me. I don't pay for him, we share money, we have a house together, I'm close to his family and, very important, we are part of and island community that likes us both very much so there's a support network. We all know each other here and we all know what each other get up to.
My advice is don't be scared of your new relationship. Go ahead with it and see how it goes - you only live once!!! There are many more aspects to living in thailand that will keep you busy once you get over here so feel free to ask away.
Take care too,
Yoyo

Hi Girls, I'm new to the forum but just wanted to add a little. I'm married to an "island guy" and very happy with it too.The only hassle actually is having to earn money on the mainland. But yes, our relationship is not about money either. We genuinly have a good thing together.
One thing I'm really sick of though is the mentality of lots of farang tourists who want to 'try' sex with a Thai guy and blatantly flirt with everyone throwing their boobs around etc. I know some Thai guys aren't perfect but this just makes them think farang women are so easy. You should hear some of the stories I hear from the Thai men on the island!!!
On another note, I'd love to communicate with any women out there in the same boat!!
