Good idea from the hotel. Who'd want people running around their hotel putting HIV on everything and all.

70,000 overstayers in one year. That puts things into perspective somewhat! Good riddance to the beach bum pot head scum bags that give the law abiding visa legal folk a bad name!
Good call.

Great news. All those working illegally on ED visas..good riddance.
I dont now whats going wrong with you. Do you really think here are much farangs working in Thailand illegaly? I don't know where you are from, but in my country you would get more social welfare for doing nothing than any normal job you can do in Thailand.
The people not working illegally - they just want to stay here before they are grandpas. For under 50 Years old the ways are very limited. I'm sure Thailand will miss the cash soon this group brought into the country over years - now they are going spent it elsewhere in asia.
PS: I hope they cancel the retirement visa soon. I think the above 50s use their retirement visa just for working illegally in Thailand.
What they need to do is to get the proper visa,
However.they are abusing the system and deserve to be busted,
Deportationno option to come to Thailand againif they are working on their ED visa.
Make them pay and set an example to those thinking about it.

Excellent news…thanks for sharing…especially about the illegals who were being pulled aside. Long may it continue.
I started to remove you post for being a troll post until I noticed you were being berated for it by members.
Your replies to them has not helped your case much.
So you assume everybody entering on several exempt or tourist visa entries is working or doing something illegal.
It's not a troll post as it is what I believe. If you want to delete my post as I don't agree with other members and have decided to express an opinion, so be it.

In answer to the OPs question…I hope so.

The rules HAVE NOT changed.
What has changed is enforcement, therefore the situation has changed.
They don't want people staying long term using visas that are meant for short term stays.
If you want to stay long term there are ways to do this. What's the problem?
Exactly. There is no problem.
Get legal or get he hell out. Simple.

Don'r really get the big deal. It's an elephant.

Lets see what happens when busy season no longer exists for those who are employed in the tourist industry. Hopefully they make the retirement visa easier to get if you own your condo or house there.
I work hard in my home country for 7 months so i can afford to stay in Thailnd for 4 or 5 months and relax, golf, sit on the beach, and play in the dart and pool leagues. If Thailand doesnt want my money , so be it, i will go to the other asian countries like Laos who have no issues with extending your stay... you dont even have to leave the country..
Bye….hahahaha

I do believe the Thai government, or military junta, is to blame for this nasty situation because they let it go on for so long and have now decided to crackdown on it without presenting viable options for TEFLs without a university degree.
Why should they provide options to people who are not even citizens or PR of Thailand ?
When I took my job in Thailand I had to be qualifed for the position by virtue of education and experience in that postion, if there was any apsect of the job I wasnt qualifed for, I couldnt stamp my feet and say it not fair and then demand they must change the requirements to suit me, I would have been laughed out the door..
so once again we are back to this self entitlement thing some people have.
Good call. Get qualified people or get out.

How does one prove that they are a genuine tourist?
That's an easy one, (Western tourist only):
- A genuine Western tourist usually arrives via international air borders.
- The difference between last visit and new visit should be > 6 months.
- A return ticket to country of origin should be in the tourist's possession, to be shown to immigration.
I'm sure others can think of other ways to determine a true western tourist...
I'll ring the bell on that statement.
A Canadian friend of mine is married to a Malaysian lass. He doesn't qualify for
residence there as he's not Muslim. Neither is his wife. However, due to a change in
Malaysia's laws on marriage & visas he can do visa runs to LOS every 90 days and
reside in Malaysia as long as they're married. He quite likes doing this. All he must do
is have a certified copy of their marriage license in his possession to show the Mal
immigration officer upon his return. He's been doing this for over 20 years with zero
problems.
They came to visit the missus & I last month, his passport is full ov VOA chops...but
since he spends less than a week in LOS each "visit" he has no problems...even in
light of the current situation. He drives up sometimes...sometimes he walks the border
...sometimes takes a taxi....no probs. He has money, he dresses casually and he has
a pony tail...then again he's 59 years old.
So...just what is a "Western Tourist" again?
Looks like he's gonna have to head somewhere else now.
