  1. Never minded gate duty. Once a week. Chat with ya mates and check out the mums.

The boss actually had to call a meeting one day and tell all the male teachers that the checking out of mums was a bit obvious. He even admitted he needed to be more mindful in future.

  2. I was at Tops in Central Rama 3 a few years back. Having previously been in Korea for 2 years, I was a bit anti-Korean at the time. I was buying some fruit and veg and waiting for the weighing chick to put my things on the scales (she was preoccupied with changing the label stickers in the machine at the time). When she was ready I went to put my stuff on the scales, but just as I was doing it, these 2 snotty older Korean chicks came from the other side and put their stuff on the scales first. Naturally I removed it and got my stuff weighed first. The filthy look and derogatory comments they gave me were priceless as I smiled at them.

Even better, about an hour later I was walking to get a taxi and I saw them walking to get a taxi as well. A couple of metres before they reached their taxi I jumped in front of them, got in the cab, closed the door, told the driver where I was going, and gave the korean chicks my middle finger as I sped off. A bit immature....but very satisfying.

I suppose with middle-aged korean ladies that's reasonably safe.

I try to gear my manners towards behaving to people in a way that won't have them wanting to give me a kicking, whether they are bigger than me or smaller.

But as you say, there's nothing as satisfying as making yourself look like an ignorant, obnoxious lout, and now you've managed to get that self-same feeling all over again in front of uncountable strangers on the internet.

    Good job!

  4. A quick couple of questions.

So when civil war does erupt, have you guys made plans for an escape? How about your wives, gfs or kids? Will it be easy to get them out as well? What about your money and other investments?

The time to start planning is now people. When the bullets start to fly, they won't be discriminating against Thai or Farang.

There are dark days ahead I'm sorry to say.

  5. I love how I still have to leave the plane and board a bus to the terminal while the plane is parked next to a gate. Only in thailand.

    Poorly designed airport.

Sent from my HTC One X using Thaivisa Connect App

You do, I only recall that happening to me with Air Asia, and thought it more to do with them cutting charges.

Last time I flew Thai to Hong Kong we had to board a bus to get to the bloody plane.

  6. Better money in HK if you got a pgce and some experience

Not really. I've worked there previously.

    In HK you're taxed.

In Qatar its all tax-free. And gas is the equivalent of 8 baht a liter for premium 97 octane. smile.png

Don't get me wrong, HK is an amazing place and I loved every minute there.............but when posters ask about how much they can make, I always relate that to how much can they actually save? And believe me, you will save a LOT in Qatar.

I send 75% of my salary back to my bank in Thailand, every month without fail. And as you can see, I also run a 6 liter 4x4, eat at restaurants at the weekend, watch West Ham on satellite, go dune-bashing, jet-ski-ing and scuba at weekends.

I make 240,000 Baht a month and save 66% of that. I know it's not 75% but it does me.

Tax last year...I ended up paying 1.58% of my salary.

Due for a 5.8% civil servant pay rise in July too.

  7. I don't teach anymore as I lead a British School but in Qatar, teachers average 120-130,000 baht a month. Free accommodation for singles and married couples. Accommodation is huge, well furnished and close to the beaches. Free utilities, flights, medical etc.

Alcohol is available in the bars of the major hotels along with nightclubs. Cinema's are plentiful and within the shopping malls. Films are usually in either Arabic or English.

Food is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. The city of Doha looks a bit like a construction site due to preparations for the World Cup etc. Lots of new infrastructure. Air-conditioned stadiums. This country is so rich it's insane.

Lots of Filipino's here, mostly females employed as maids, sales staff etc. Female company is therefore not hard to find. wink.png
