    Thailand Never Been Colonised - Fact Or Myth?

    Thailand has been tomporarily colonised by burmese in XVI century. and raided many times by burmese in the future.

    As for the second world war. I see it as Thailand sold themseves to Japan. Capitulated to Japan after just few days of "fighting" and a week later became an ally. Although a useless one. And as soon as Japan started losing they sold themselves to the west, by breaking the alliance and going to war against japan.

    So Thailand has been just balancing, floating between the powers.

    Thailand goes only with the richest and in power...

    As for why Thailand has never been colonized by french or English. Just look on the map. Thailand had been a buffer zone between France and England- separating the areas of influence: burma and malay peninsula to the British and East of Thailand to the French. They got the trade rights, and it was enough for the European powers. and as i said the buffer zone.

    Phuket is advertised as worlds best destination place, and all that blah blah blah.

    And all we get there is hundreds of touts, con-artists and criminals living of stupid tourists who pay the price.

    and in exchange for that Phuket city which takes millions of dollars every year form tourists cannot even provide lifeguards...

    DO NOT GO TO PHUKET> perhaps if people stop going there, something will change

    Khao San lost it's "charm" long time ago. Now it's full of drunk=stupid farangs who think they are "cool" because they wear dirty clothes are obnoxious, nd full of weird/ rich thais who think they own the world, and as thsi is their country they are the lasters. And anybody who have been long enough in thailand knows that Thais are not just smily people. They love to kick farang asses,and they are brutal in every case. Seen Thais jumping on my friends head while was down unconscious.
