webfact
170,000 appear for police entrance exams The Nation All those who appeared at yesterday BANGKOK: -- Under tightened security to prevent cheating, about 170,000 people yesterday took part in the makeup entrance examination for the recruitment of noncommissioned policemen. The annual exam, which was held in June, was scandalised this year by widespread cheating. Many testtakers and facilitators have been arrested. "We have adjusted exam procedures to prevent all kinds of cheating," Police Education Bureau chief LtGeneral Ruangsak Jaritek said yesterday. Police Region 4 deputy commander MajGeneral Boonlert Jaipradit said testtakers were now required to walk through Xray machines to prevent them from carrying communication devices into exam rooms. "Examroom supervisors will not know beforehand which rooms they will be in. A drawing is held just before the exam begins," he said. Testtakers' wristwatches are also banned from the exam rooms. Although the exam started at 2pm, testtakers were required to show up at noon to undergo a rigorous identification check, which included fingerprinting. No one was allowed to enter the exam rooms after 1.30pm. Cellphone signals were jammed at the exam locations. Deputy National Police Commissioner General Pongsapat Pongcharoen inspected an exam location at Ramkhamhaeng University's Bang Na campus. Pol LtColonel Anan Pimcharoen, who is investigating the cheating allegations, said 17 suspects have been arrested and while another suspect remains at large. "The investigation report has been forwarded to public prosecutors," he said. The makeup exam continues tomorrow. -- The Nation 2012-08-04
Popular Post BookMan
When your first exposure of the police life is paying to get the answers in a exam, it does not bode well for the future. Effectively the police force end up with the people who are the most easily corrupted. Let's hope there are some prosecutions from the first round of testing.

Popular Post Misterwhisper
170.000 would-be non-commissioned police officers, no doubt all of them driven by unending respect for the law, the undying wish to uphold law and order in all situations, the irresistible urge to serve their communities and not themselves with integrity and the highest standard of morals, rejecting corruption whenever it rears its ugly head. I mean, why else would one flock in droves to one of these exams and want to become a policeman with a starting salary of 5,000 or 6,000 Baht...?
Misterwhisper
How enthusiastic do those in the Photo Look ?? I reckon they would be more interested in watching paint dry ! It's not really the exam they're interested in, it's the "various benefits" that are in store for them in case they pass.

yourauntbob
I have a friend that took the test in this group and she verified they were very strict in getting in and hovered over them. They were even forced to stand several times during the test to be inspected for cheating materials. The question is, was this a one time thing or are they going to continue such practices? MiguelDelgado
Do these young men and women really want to be become murders in the future? As my Thai friends like to say: never ever under any circumstances give your daughter to a policeman for wife but believe in rural Thailand people don't mind if the prospect groom has some sibling you is policeman. As we say: don't get too near to them but is still handy to have one of these bastards somehow linked to your family.

mikebell
My wife's daughter took the test yesterday in Chonburi. The conditions were gruelling: the only car park was 500 metres away, no easy walk for unprepared mother and daughter in the sun. When finally admitted the test was difficult and took over four hours to administer. No drinks allowed. Presumably this is to train the prospective police to stand all day by the roadside robbing motorists.

We attended the Provincial Police Training Centre in Chonburi District on Friday to see for ourselves the measures in place to ensure applicants cant cheat after the controversy of the last round of entrance exams which were plagued by widespread reports of cheating. Metal detectors and x-ray machines were being used and over 1,000 Police Officers were on-duty to monitor the applicants at all times. PoodMaiDai
Whatever. The entire system was built on cheating, so even if a couple rounds of tests are monitored, it will be business as usual in no time.

rbrooks
These are the unfortunate ones who did not have enough money to bypass the exam and just pay to get into the Thai police corp. They come in great numbers for this honorable job because they know what kind of side money they could make. Thaksin is their national idol to base this from since he was a former policeman prior to becoming a billionaire.

I got the scare of the year the other day when the wife was trying to explain her grandson needing 5,000 baht to go to school to learn to be a policeman. Turned out it was to some school for cadet training as he would like to join the army. Got to admit it that was one big relief.
