  1. In the 5th Century a Roman guy called Priscus wrote:

"If the transgressor of the law be of the monied class, it is not likely that he pays the penalty for his wrongdoing. Whereas if the transgressor should be poor and ignorant of how to handle the business, he endures the penalty according to the law - if he does not depart life before his trial. For the course of these cases is long protracted, and a great deal of money is expended on them. No-one will ever grant a court to a wronged man unless he lay aside some money for the judge and his retinue."

    So what's new?

This case sounds like a load of Red Bull to me.

  2. 'It was confirmed that no other individuals entered the apartment prior to the discovery of his body by a cleaner at 12.30pm on Monday.

Therefore, presumably it was a self inflicted head injury (deliberate or accidental) with blood everywhere?

If you read the rest of the article the police are speculating that he had a pre-existing medical condition which caused the death.

    Insanity?

    Certainly insanity rules here.

  3. Diplomats are briefed extensively on the country that they are working in.

The ambassador is well aware that Thailand has a long history of not responding to international condemnation and of Phuket's myriad of problems. Private talks are the way to change things.

TV posters miss the point yet again.

Not critcising in public is one thing, but to actively praise each Phuket police officer publicly is hardly sending out the right message.

  4. The problem is nothing to do with white teachers. The majority of Thais are taught by Thai teachers who are afraid to speak english (even if they could), and use Thai 95% of the time. I'm still astounded that the average government school graduate can say barely more than hello, even after 12 years of learning english. There are plenty of excellent speakers of english here, educated in private / international schools / overseas, but they are in the vast minority of all citizens.

    Can a minority be 'vast'?

    Just asking.
