If you think TV is unique I don't think you've been around very long.

About few months ago I'm driving my Fortuner (with the wife riding shotgun) in the right most lane during about a 90-100Km like the rest of the traffic in this lane. A saw a van just like the one in the news story in my rear view mirror gaining fast and going from lane to lane to gain that extra meter and second while adding in some tailgating. When he went by me I could see the van was full of Thai's talking to each other and apparently not concerned about the driving. I bet they had never said anything to the drive about his fast, quick lane changing, tailgating driving.
Well that is part of the problem, the Mai Pen Rai culture.
You can't criticize a Thai minivan driver's insane driving because he and you and everyone present will lose face.
So you think Mai Pen Rai and everything will likely be okay, which is much better than everyone losing face.
And I fully expect none of these passengers were wearing seat belts if the van had seat belts (which it probably did) for passengers.
Probably not. Most taxis and minivans I've been in have had the seatbelt straps cut or tied down with plastic ties so no one can use them.
Using seatbelts does two things:
It shows a lack of confidence in the driver's skill and ability and thus causes you and him to lose face. (worse than possible death)
And using them might actually cause an accident, simply due to you using them, due to superstitious beliefs within the culture.

Very sad.
Happens all over the World unfortunately.

Perhaps their oven needed cleaning and the wife was away.

That would depend on a number of different factors.

No doubt you weren't the only one laughing.

He forgot to put on his Chinese (Hi-So) mask and change his name to something like Na Ayuthaya, and perhaps kill a few of them. then threaten the police when they arrive.
I'm sure he'd be in a far better position now.

I make sure to tell all tourists I get chatting with here to stay away from Phuket.
Do you consider this accrate advice?
Accurate?
Yes.
How many years in Phuket would you base such advice on?
Three.

I was sitting on Kata Beach yesterday with a friend of mine who has been coming to Kata since 1990. We started talking with a Swedish guy who had been coming there since the 90's too. We all concluded there aren't as many German and Swedish and other Europeans, but there is a hugh influx of Russians this year. I don't think tourist numbers are down, but the demographics have changed. I also seem to see more motorbikes this year than ever at the beaches, so I'm not sure if people are using tuk tuks less, but they are renting motorbikes more.
exactly
Thais are emptied the fins and swedes and in a few years the russian will stop coming here. One day every nationality will be fed up and will go to a country that is actually still cheap and not full of violence. Its coming to a point where its cheaper for most nationalities to just fly to cuba and get a full week at 4 star hotels all included for 250$ What do you get for 250$ here? 1 night at a similar hotel and 1 400m ride of a tuktuk? Also fun to visit a country where most people serving you are more educated than you and can converse outside of the usual 'lady boomboom' and 'where u go where u from' dialect that the tourism workers have
All true.
What was a truly great place has been totally ruined by the Thais, due to excessive Thainess - Corruption, Greed, Selfishness and violent Immorality.
I always recommend people to take a wide berth of the place, and believe that they're stay in Thailand will certainly be better for it.

Those underpasses on Ratchada have signage of a bike and a slashed circle through them so I'm sure its illegal to ride through them.
I've seen many cops pulling bikes over for this offense on that road too.
I've driven under those underpasses quite literally two to four times every day over the past 14 months. I have never been stopped once or had to go through a police check once. I have seen only one police check on them in that time.
-
Another farang who needs to learn some manners.
No doubt the police are teaching him some right now.
-
standard fine is 1000 thb now for taking the illegal underpass at huai kwang/ suttisan
Eh?
I've driven on those underpasses at least twice a day for over the past year and have never once been stopped or fined.
I have on one occasion seen the police blocking one end on something like a Sunday morning. I've probably gone through them 1000 times over the past 14 months and my wallet is 0 baht lighter for it.

I believe we are evolved creatures and even If the male (or female) natural instincts are strong, we would have learnt and been conditioned to what is acceptable behavior in what setting.
Cultural conditioning overriding natural human behaviour.
One should look at the society that has conditioned them if this is the case, I'd guess it has very large religious roots, ie, the church, which has conditioned people in how to be un-human and suppress their natural humanity.
Yes, one should be aware of the setting though, and not go in to the business network meeting with your willy hanging out as you point to it.

I got my new CBR250 just before xmas last year. 2 weeks of endless police checks for xmas and new years. Stopped at big checks about 5 times. not one fine.
-
I see a few around BKK. Just too little power for anything close to a main road really. Back sois to the 7-11, great fun though.
-
Do nothing.
It was nonsense. He gave you the fine to save face as he told ye to go. His docket will have been scrumpled up and thrown in a bin.
The lesson learned however, is to simply ride through the police check whether they shout at you or not.

The missus was given one for 1,500b a few years when we lived in Isahn. It was a lot of fun. Tiny, light little thing. We miss it actually. We gave it away when moving to BKK. Would get another one here but don't think you can get a plate for them?
Too many Mafia boys manning the road on her commute to work so best not to, which is a pity.

So as a male let me explain this politely as possible.
They are simply assumig that trhey won't be caught cheating....so there is no penalty involved.
Therefore no risk.
From a biological viewpoint consider this:
A male, in order to be reproductively sucessful...thus passing on his genes...should have as many female partners as possible, thus maximising the chances of his possible offspring surviving. He invests little in the care of those offspring, so only a single long-term partner...from his biplogical viewpoint anyhow...is a bad choice.
Females, on the other hand, invest heavily in bearing and raising any offspring. So for them having one long-term partner is the best solution.
Biology existed long before any religion or morality....and so biology usually wins in the end.
For both sexes.
At least that's the sociobiology answer that scientists would give you.
You can also think of it with the, "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" explanation.
But I suspect you already knew that.
Humans are also genetically designed to be attracted to exotic races, as a coupling would widen the human gene pool.
Which is why so many Thai and Asian women find white men so attractive and want to mate with us.
Which may also explain why the men described in the OP found the lady so appealing.
Except... amazingly, few Western women in their home countries are married to foreign men. Yes, there are a few 'mixed' marriages - but generally the 'foreigners' marry their own as do the residents.
Really? I'm afraid you'd have to consider the amount of males of a different race than the 'local population' that are living in a country, then consider the amount that haven't bedded, or married into the local race though being unwanted.
I'd imagine the numbers would be quite low. Any Western country I've been to the exotic foreign men have had queues of local women looking for a bang.
As an exotic foreign man, you simply have local women throwing themselves at you. This is regardless of country, continent, etc. ime.

The problem here seems to lie with the fact that some people can't accept that other people have differing opinions on what is offensive and to respect those differences.
Seems you're having some trouble yourself.

I've been hit on by many Thai women who've asked 'How much'.
'Do I earn?'.
Makes me feel all dirty.

Out on the street? Did they not have any fireworks in the police owned nightclubs, sorry, 'licensed noodle stores' this year?

All of them will come with fuel injection engines and various engine capabilities up to 250cc,
That's a bit disappointing.
