  1. Yes, there doesn't appear to be anything resembling "planning permission" here and the feeling seems to be if it's your land you can do what you like with it. The only exception i'm aware of was an old lady who decided to keep pigs in her rear garden in the village. She had a visit from the "Poo Yai Baan" ( sp ?) who explained the smell and flies were upsetting her neighbours. Other than that it's up to you !

As for the glass bricks, i've recently had 2 walls partially demolished and rebuilt using them. The results are excellent with vastly increased light levels and without compromising on security. Also outside noise levels appear low compared with normal windows. Home-Mart have a very good selection, including patterned and different colours, starting from about 50TB each. Dimentions of each brick are 19 x 19cm ( 20cm square including grout / concrete ).

    Good luck :jap:

  2. Everybody i spoke to here in thailand voting for Yingluck

Same here! People on this forum been so out of tough with Thais I am sure 90% live overseas but are experts.

This next thing they will say everyone was paid to vote red

Unfortunately the poor have been paid to vote. Thailand will stay in the corruption zone. :(

Not true. My wife went back to her province to vote and received no money.

Ask for a refund. She's been short changed ! :whistling:

  3. Everybody i spoke to here in thailand voting for Yingluck

Not surprising if your username is any indication what people you speak to.

Lovely people I am sure, but not very educated.

The only difference between those from a privileged background to those from a less fortunate one is money- not IQ!

I agree, hence why I wrote 'educated'.

Sadly however one has to be educated, atleast about the political parties and how their policies will affect the nation, to make an educated choice in an election. Anything else is either group-think, peer-pressure or purely emotional reasons.

No, it's none of these reasons. It's 320TB "inducement" to vote P/T. That was the price in my Issan village anyway. "Simples" :(

  4. Yes, but to be fair Salty most 3rd strips are an abomination.

Look at this eyesore from Birminghan City from season 1992-93. Eek !

Or this gem from Coventry City. Topped off with the obligatory 1970's perm.

My own personal favourite - looks like the designer just went out and bought a Hawaii shirt from Topman and stuck a sponsors logo on it. Scunthorpe actually wore this in 1994-95 season !

  5. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LOGO.

Rangers fans will be delighted to learn that every time they view the Champions League logo - you know the flag with 8 stars waved around before every CL match - one of the stars represents Rangers FC. The stars represent "the star football clubs of Europe". " The original 8 clubs in the first true UEFA Champions League season in 1992-93 experienced an approach to match organisation and commercialisation that was very new. Their stadium had to be made clean of all existing branding, new positions had to be created for an increased number and quality of TV coverage, hospitality suites and best-seated tickets had to be turned over for UEFA sponsors.

As the UEFA Champions League developed it became clear that the financial rewards for the clubs were more substantial than had previously been possible. Secondly, the clubs were part of something that was much bigger than the previous competition."

Rangers FC were of course one of the original 8 clubs in season 1992-93, when bizarrely, you actually had to be CHAMPIONS of your home league to qualify for the CHAMPIONS league. The clue's in the title but money talks, i guess ! ;)

  6. 1 Year Extension of a Non Imm "o" Visa. ( Retirement Visa )

Ubon Ratchathani ( its actually in Phibun Mangsahan about 35km from Ubon ) immigration office.

My previous experience with Thai immigration had been mainly in Bangkok - a huge complex of government buildings where you take a ticket from the machine and wait in a queue for what seems like ages until your numbers up. The office closes for lunch and when the doors open after lunch you're faced with a rugby scrum of about 100 people trying to be 1st through the door. Thais don't do queueing and it seems farang living in Thailand don't either ! My other experience was having my passport retained and being frog-marched to an ATM machine at Suvarnabhumi Airport to withdraw TB4500 after overstaying by 9 days last year !

So it was with some trepidation that we drove into the car park at Phibun Mangsahan immigration office . I had done some research and attempted to ensure all documents were complete with correct number of copies etc etc. However a niggling doubt surfaced that maybe something was missing or wrongly completed. What if more papers were needed from UK ? - yikes !

Some weeks earlier, during a break in Bangkok, i had visited the British Embassy and obtained a letter of income ( which i should say cost an extortionate TB2300, but still preferrable to the TB800000 Thai Bank account option IMO).

So it was armed with umpteen letters, photocopies, forms, and documents that we climbed the few steps and entered into a pleasant and empty reception area. 3 or 4 smartly dressed staff were sitting at computer screens behind the reception desk, and upon enquiring i was told i would be dealt with immediately.

A young lady asked for all my documents and carefully examined each one. In my fraught state i had left the p/copy of my departure card in the house. Resigned to having to roam round Phibun trying to find a p/copy machine, i was pleasantly surprised when she offered to run off a copy on their office machine next door.

And so it was that i left the office 30 mins later with the all important stamp in the passport and with a cheery "Sawadee Kha" from the girl officer. Also TB1900 the poorer, but hey-ho what's free in Thailand ?

Maybe i was just lucky and went on the "right" day but after reading some of the horror stories some people have had, i found the process simple and the immigration staff helpful and courteous. :)

  7. And finally one that Salty should approve of :-

CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to announce that it has been declared the best in Britain for its matchday experience.

Celtic beat off stiff competition from top English Premiership and Championship clubs to scoop the award, which was accepted last night at a glittering ceremony at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

The award recognises the matchday experience which involves all aspects of that day.

Award judges, Stadium Experience, employed a Salon Culinaire Chef to assess all that we provide to hospitality customers from the initial welcome, standards of food and beverage, atmosphere and service standards.

Celtic's Head of Catering David Stothers said: "To be voted the best in Britain is a magnificent achievement.

"We are very proud to accept this award, which is testament to all the efforts of our colleagues at Celtic Park.

"We like to think we offer our supporters and their guests the very best treatment and the very best Celtic experience - clearly this has been reflected in this award."

Apparently Celtic now get a bye into next years Masterchef competition !

  8. ALLY McCOIST admits he has set his sights high as his Rangers reign officially begins.

The new Gers boss had high level talks with the club's majority shareholder Craig Whyte yesterday.

McCoist has drafted a list of potential summer signing targets which he handed over to Whyte at the Ibrox summit.

And he revealed he's looking for the new owner to shell out on QUALITY stars.

Out of contract Blackpool ace David Vaughan looks set to be McCoist's first ever capture.

But he hopes the 28-year-old Wales midfielder is just the first of many as he believes as many as FIVE new players are needed.

Dundee United winger Craig Conway is available on a Bosman and is on Gers' radar after leaving Tannadice, but he has options in England.

McCoist and Whyte are keen to offer new deals to Steven Davis, Madjid Bougherra and Steven Whittaker.

El Hadji Diouf and Vladimir Weiss want to extend their Ibrox stays while McCoist could try and land Arsenal's Kyle Bartley on loan once more.

The Rangers boss said: "We have had a number of discussions since the takeover and our latest meeting was to agree on our priorities for next season.

"The most important thing to emerge is that we both hold the same hopes and desire for success for the team and that's a great start.

"We are both keen to re-sign key players who did so brilliantly in helping land our latest league title and to ensure we can attract players of a certain quality to Ibrox.

"I have a clear list of signing targets in mind and that will be my priority over the next few weeks. I plan to spend wisely on transfers and new contracts to maximise the benefit to the club.

"It's all about getting the right balance. We invested heavily in Nikica Jelavic and every penny of that looks well spent. However, it's not always the case of the more money you spend on a particular player the better.

"We've had players coming through the ranks, loan players who have done a tremendous job and others who did not cost a great deal. It's more important to get the right blend.

"The club enjoyed great success last season and I'm looking to build on that."

Gers captain Davie Weir was inducted into the Ibrox Hall of Fame this week and he too could be offered a new contract.

But last night Weir, whose deal expires on Tuesday, said: "I've not had a chance to speak to Ally but once I do things will be a bit clearer. I'll play on next season but whether that is at Rangers is dependent on other people."

Meanwhile, Gers will play Linfield in Belfast on July 16.

A Rangers manager spending wisely in the transfer market ? We'll see !

  9. I was trying to explain to my builder yesterday that i wasn't happy with the finish of the internal walls at the house i'm having built - you know that "orange peel" appearance ? Tried to ask him if he knew someone who could skim the walls with plaster for a far smoother finish but i don't think i got through. Anyone know if there are plasterers in Thailand and the Thai name for them ? Many thanks

  10. It is disturbing to read about the thuggish behaviour of some Celtic "fans" at Tynecastle, and I hope the unfortunate young man makes a full and speedy recovery.

I have followed Celtic for over 50 years and I am not so naive as to believe all are paragons of virtue. I expect some of the local morons to spend most of the Ireland /Scotland game in Dublin jeering Rangers players not that it will unduly worry them.

As it says in the bible let he/they who are without sin cast the first stone. I have no intention of trawling through the Scottish newspapers looking for examples of bad behaviour by Rangers fans.People in glass houses should not throw stones.

Having the advantage of seeing most of the Celtic games on TV I have posted accounts of many of these games. I believe my comments have been mostly unbiased and I have not been shy about critizing Celtic players when I felt it was justified.

It is depressing that a relative newcomer seems determined to hijack the Celtic thread in the last week or so. Gloating over Rangers success in the League, bad mouthing the Celtic Manager and relishing the opportunity to highlight bad behaviour by Celtic "fans".

Gloating is always short sighted because things can change so quickly. In 2008 when we completed 3 in a row I was on a huge high and would not have felt the need to gloat about it.

Neil Lennon is certainly an abrasive character but he has been subjected to unacceptable behaviour ever since he signed for Celtic. He received death threats in Nortern Ireland and now is being subjected to having bullets posted to him and been attacked in Tynecastle. All fair minded people rather that bad mouthing him roundly condemn these developments.

If I read of bad behaviour of Rangers fans I do not feel the need to start mouthing about it on the Rangers thread. I know there are plenty who "support" both sides that all decent people would avoid like the plague.

I would hope that this thread can resume with mainly observations about Celtic football matters and not continue to be plagued by unwelcome intrusions.

Apologies Salty, i consider myself duly chastised. Please don't be depressed by my comments, they are intended as a mild "wind up" and are not intended to cause you or anyone else distress.

I totally condemn the actions of the idiots who have threatened Neil Lennon and sincerely hope they are swiftly brought to justice and dealt with. This is a seperate issue from my dislike of him and shouldn't be linked.

I acknowledge you as a better person with a stronger will than i, but i couldn't help myself with just a wee gloat after the league was won. Relief more than anything else. This was unnecessary.

Finally, i can see you are a fair minded and sincere man and will endevour to ensure any comments are factually based. If you see any comments by me just disregard and move on to the next post.

Finally, finally please lighten up a wee bit and don't take me so seriously.

  11. Very good article in The Scotsman by Tom English.

    http://www.scotsman....-fan.6773941.jp

Hits the nail on the head really.

After their last minute attempt to scupper Whyte's deal and their negative press statements about it, Johnston, Bain and co. must have known their days were numbered. The only mystery is why it's taken so long !

The board were looking for a Sugar Daddy to clear the debt with the bank, then walk away and let the status quo prevail. The board would have kept their cushy little jobs and the club would have continued to lumber along from season to season on it's knees. Instead they got an owner who has new ideas and who is looking for new opportunities to expand the Rangers brand.

Whyte is first and foremost a businessman and this is a takeover. Like any other takeover the new owner chops out the deadwood and replaces it with his own men with fresh ideas and newly motivated staff.

Johnston has been eerily quiet for the last 18 months when the clubs been in turmoil - too busy playing golf in America. Strange that he's suddenly become so vocal now that his own necks on the line. Bain's done very well from RFC with his £600K salary. What does he do for his money ? He's been totally ineffectual and an absolute bomb scare in the transfer market. Gentlemen Rangers FC have an exciting new future and you're not part of it. Kindly leave. :bah:

    kin irony ah that !!

sooner you slink off to the blue square. ill even pay the m.o.t on your transit van,

exciting new future???? yep you crack on sg, big fish small shallow stagnant pond

Wont be slinking anywhere, anytime soon i'm afraid. New owner, bank debt wiped out, fresh investment, Champions league football, new manager, just won league and cup double. Yes indeed very exciting times.

It may surprise you to know Rangers average home attendance for year 2009/10 ( latest available ) was 47564. Only Man Utd and Arsenal from the "big league" can boast more. Man City in 3rd had 46382.

May be a small pond but to those of us who live here, it's pretty dam_n important. I wont take issue with you about the shallow part - having a 2 horse race for the title every year isn't healthy. Remind me again, how many winners of the EPL in the last 7 years ?

Finally i don't seek to compare SPL and EPL leagues. But to those of us who watch and love it , it means more than the EPL ever could.

  12. Hearts ballboy pelted with coins by Celtic "fans" sustains brain injury !

I can only imagine what the reaction would have been if it was Rangers fans involved. Banner headlines in all papers, questions asked in Scottish parliament , etc, etc.

It's ok though because it was TGFITW and it was only the "craic" . Buried on page 23 of the Record ! Sweep, sweep.

  14. Yes Silly Season's here again. Someone must have told them Rangers had some money to spend ! We've only just fixed the bank and the papers want to break it again.

After Fosters quote about the best year of his life, the Dons fans are going to give him pelters next season ! Very soon wee Craig's going to have a very unpopular and totally de-motivated full back on his hands. If Ally really wants him back ( why ?) i'd be tempted to offer them a very low take it or leave it offer. If rejected look elsewhere. We need to start being more cagey in the transfer market or this supposed £10 million's not going to last very long. :(

‘Rangers will have to break bank for Aberdeen FC’s Foster’

No cheap deal, warns Craig Brown

    By Charlie Allan

    Published: 24/05/2011

RANGERS were today warned they will have to dig deep if they hope to sign Aberdeen FC full-back Richard Foster in the summer.

New Gers boss Ally McCoist is understood to be keen to retain Foster, who joined them on loan from Aberdeen FC at the start of last season and helped the Light Blues retain the SPL title.

Foster is also believed to be eager to return to Rangers for a second crack at Champions League football next season after describing the spell at Ibrox as “the best year of my life”.

  15. You want to post without antagonising then

you may find you will be answered with some

respect. Otherwise, forget it. I'm with Salty

on this one and agree that you should stick to

the pages that interest you, not the ones that

allow you to wind yourself up.

I feel perfectly at liberty to view or post on any forum or thread i choose and don't seek or ask permission to do so. Why would the Celtic thread be any different ?

As Rangers main rivals, the Celtic thread is of interest to me. Just like Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc supporters, look and contribute to each others boards. Not at all unusual.

My aim is not to antagonise and your suggestion to stick exclusively to your own board sounds like some sort of football forum apartheid to me !

Looks like it's you bhoys getting into a bit of a lather - not me.

Finally i don't seek your respect and very much doubt it would be forthcoming whatever my actions - thanks anyway.

  16. Rumour has it that Ally McCoist would like to sign Ricky Foster ( Aberdeen ) on a permanent deal now that his loan deal has ended. Foster joined Rangers on loan in Sept and provided much needed cover after Kirk Broadfoot was injured. I know Foster has stated moving to Ibrox was the best thing that happened in his career, and of course he leaves with a Championship winners medal but surely we should be looking for a bit more quality for next year. Squad member at best, even then i think we could do better.

It's also rumoured Ally wants to give James Beattie a fresh start next year - YIKES !

Beattie who was signed from Stoke in Aug, arrived overweight and not match fit. He never really impressed even when fit, then picked up an injury and spent the rest of the year hovering between the Subs bench and the treatment room. He was finally put out on loan to Blackpool in Feb. This Boy's obviously read the Bobo Balde book of Freeloading and is happy to park his rear end on the subs bench and wait for the money to roll in. No way Ally ! - punt him.

  17. No Salty i wont "bugger off " - football forums are all about differing opinions - this is mine. You don't have to agree.

Intelligence isn't measured by whether YOU agree with a statement or not.

You don't decide who can or cannot post on this forum.

Most neutral fans support the wee team in a cup final. Given what your manager has put my countrys football through this year i think 90% support for Motherwell throughout the country would be near the mark.

What "cavemen" behaviour are you referring ? This :-

  18. Jelavic happy to stay at Rangers

Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic insists he is going nowhere despite being linked with a move to Manchester United.

    GettyImages

Nikica Jelavic: Joined Rangers from Rapid Vienna last summer

Jelavic has been a hit at Ibrox after netting 19 goals in his debut season despite a spell of almost four months on the sidelines part way through the campaign.

His form saw him linked with a £13 million switch to Old Trafford, but the forward - who joined Rangers for £4 million last summer - claims he is happy in Glasgow.

Jelavic was quoted in the Daily Record as saying: "Frankly, I do not think about leaving because I am loving it at Rangers. Some of the stories about me leaving were simply people getting excited over nothing. I don't think I need to push myself for sale.''

It's absolutely vital he stays with us, at least for next season, while Ally "beds in" as manager. If he hadn't been injured between Oct and Jan we would have cake-walked the SPL title this year. IMO of course.

  19. Celtic news

    Lennon unsure of future

    May 20, 2011

    By ESPNsoccernet staff

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has admitted that he is uncertain of his future following a dramatic few months.

    GettyImages

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has an uncertain future

Lennon has seen his Hoops side fall short in the SPL and the League Cup but they have the chance to end the season on a high and clinch some silverware when they take on Motherwell in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

More troubling though has been off-field matters this term as the Northern Irishman has been the subject of death threats, bullets in the post and an intercepted parcel bomb.

Lennon is on a rolling contract which has yet to be renewed and he admits he is not sure whether the Celtic board will want him to continue in the post.

"I don't know if that decision has already been made, or if tomorrow will have an effect on it one way or another," he told Sky Sports. "In our mind, we are just concentrating on tomorrow and things will be dealt with after Saturday.

"We'll talk about things in the week, we want to bring success to the club and the avenue we have now is the FA Cup final on Saturday and we will do anything we can to win it."

Lennon has expressed his desire to remain at Celtic beyond the end of the campaign and is pleased with a number of positives in the main this term.

"We have got a good relationship with the players and in the main they have been magnificent this season," he added.

"We are pretty pleased with the progress they have made and the performances and consistency they have shown this season. There is a good atmosphere at the club and we want that to continue."

    BTW Mon the Well!! :D

If they lose today the Board will definately jettison him. He's already brought their club enough embarrasement with his disgraceful behaviour this season. Win today and it will be difficult for them to sack him.

Personally i'm torn between seeing the back of the foul mouthed, obnoxious, venomous wee turd or having him stay another year and letting Super Ally have a crack at him next year. Only problem is if he goes now Celtic might bring back a real manager like MON, which would be a much stiffer challenge for Ally in his 1st year.

Still can't bring myself to want "them" to win anything though. 'Mon the Steelmen - do it for 90% of Scotland ! :whistling:

  20. Meanwhile, a majority of the Irish population has behaved in a gracious hospitable manner. It is unfortunate that a few malcontents tried to embarass Eire. These are the same malcontents that would be out causing trouble if the issue was an increase in the price of toilet tissue. HM's visit was intended to show that the peace process had moved to the point of no return. The visit is a gesture integral to the peace process and the cementing of relations beween Eire and the UK.. Such a gesture was a long time in the planning and would not have been undertaken unless officials in both countries saw merit in the visit. In a world that is undergoing idiotic sectarian violence, the ability of the two nations to behave in a civilized manner is a welcome event.

Totally agree with everything you say. No doubt most of the "malcontents" were shipped in from N.I to cause trouble. In my experience the folk from ROI are generious and welcoming. Unfortunately it's the North where most of these idiots originate. Both sides of the religious divide i may add.
