  1. Reading on a Thai forum can be difficult unless the OP hangout with Thais and have Thai gf/bf. Younger Thai persons now a day don't spell words right intentionally so to look trendy

    Postjung

I know of many many motorcycle forums too

Thai is pretty squirrelly for a language to begin with, but reading the stuff on the forums can be difficult due to misspellings, abbreviations, and slang.

  2. 1) Red song thawes are not taxis. Generally red song thaews are not on fixed routes. Disregard other farangs claim to be experts on song thawes current price. You should pay 20 baht all the way otherwise tell the driver to complain to the police.

    2) There are the yellow and blue Taxi, real taxi. Use the Taxi Call Center phone number. Can not operate in the Airport area or Wing 41 airbase.

    3) Airport taxi, will pick you up anywhere and are permitted to enter Wing 41 airbase.

    4) Tuk tuks taxi

  4. A number of unhelpful/trolling posts have been deleted.

OP: Thailand has a long history of coups, I have lived through more than I can count. In the past the impact on finance has been minimal.

So tell us Sheryl...in the past, has curfew been imposed and for how long? Having arrived to start my life here in August of 2009, I can't remember what happened as far as any curfew in 2006 or in prior coup years.

The reason I ask is if the protests were harming the economy, as they certainly were in the last 6-7 months, then this curfew, if it lasts long enough, will devastate the economy. Think of all the businesses that depend on doing business after 10pm such as all the convenience stores and all the 1000's of nightlife venues. What about buses, which I have not read about whatsoever if they have restrictions on travel after 10pm. Pattaya, a town in particular, that thrives on nightlife will be kicked in the butt economically and if you thought tourists were staying away during the protests over the last 6-7 months, then my guess is incoming tourists will now drop to a trickle so the airlines will be significantly harmed. Who wants to come to a country under curfew.

So it all comes down to how long this curfew will last. The rest of it IS business as usual.

I am a bit surprised to see the baht/USD exchange has not been affected at all by the coup or curfew...yet.

Im sure you will get used to it.

  5. I'm really surprised that many farangs agree with this! Similar to "nidieunimaitre" said That was NOT because of Thai culture, it was because of POVERTY." Thai are people just like you and just like your culture it is very wrong to "sex while everyone else is in the room (everyone else pretends not to notice)."!! Unfortunately many Thai girls are poor peasants who like to marry farangs and that's how the whole population is judged too. I will post this on Pantip and see if the "other Thais" think about your Thai expert point of view! Pantip has around 120,000 daily page veiw per forum category (BTW if the women care about her 12 yr old kid more than the OP, in "Thai culture" it means she isn't a soul mate and she only tolerates the OP because he can support her financially)

Yes, many Thai homes only have 1 room.
Yes, many Thais in a family all sleep on one mattress (often 3 generations all together).
Yes, the adult couple often does have sex while everyone else is in the room (everyone else pretends not to notice).
They also go out to 'short-time' hotels for an hour of Privicy sometimes, money allowing.

You have three choices, sleep alone, sleep together, get the daughter to sleep alone.
Sorry, fourth choice, find a new gf with no children.

Oh, and I agree, it's not satisfactory for many men brought up in the western world.
    My sympathies for your predicament.

  6. Last night I experienced something that really shocked me.

I have lived in Thailand for 15 years and love this country. I admire how people often talk their way out of problems with the authorities as long as they keep calm and stay friendly.

I was walking along the skywalk from Central Lad Prao to the MRT and there was a young schoolboy sitting and playing a flute. Quite a lot of people put money in the small box in front of him. Suddenly just as I passed him I saw a security guard run up to him and without warning punched him in the face. This poor kid was probably about 15 years old and didn't see the guard coming. The guard then placed one arm around the boy's neck and proceeded to punch him. He released him and took the box with the money. He then grabbed him again and tried to drag him away , still punching him in the face and body. The boy didn't fight back.

I was told by my Thai friends just to ignore the situation and walk away. Unfortuneately the battery in my mobile was flat so I couldn't film the episode.

I really couldn't believe that a fully grown man could attack a young innocent kid in that way.

Most the times chance are they knew each other probably some payback. Very weird that a security guard to enforce their authority that far

  7. My 2 cents..

You will never be 'accepted' in thai culture/society

    So...don't waste your time..

    I tried and failed spectacularly.

May be because they dont understand why you want to be like them. Like I said most Thai admire fatang culture and want to be like farang. Check out hello magazine youll get my point
