Be a good chap and try to keep up with the rest of the class. Can I suggest this scheme is just to buy PT loyalty from the farmers? To me its fiscal irresponsibly to garner support from the majority of the population in this way?

Watch out for the rise in 'aged foreigner found dead in hotel room after sex with Thai lady'..... these pills are not for the faint hearted.

If I've managed to get that far, I'm not too fussed about the colour, only I don't like over hairy or stinky gorrilla sandwiches.

In what context are you quoting my post? I did not mention a 'peceful religion'.Condolences to the victims of the religion of peaceWhy are so many people so terribly ignorant of the history of the region and the origins of the resurgence of the violent independence movement? It really is embarrassing if this is the level of knowledge from expats on their new chosen home.I suggest some of the posters on this forum go and visit the South, you might be surprised to find very warm, peace loving people, and yes, they are muslim. Most of my colleagues and students are muslim, they are sweet people not to be tarred with the same brush( that might be used for the Taliban etc ) that many ignorant posters on this forum seem to enjoy waving around. Please try to understand that the insurgents in the south are terrorising eveybody, muslims and buddhists, and that they are not using a religous platform to justify their actions. I appeal to the mods on this forum to stay on top of the posts....they're getting out of hand. Thank you.As with just about everything, the situation in Thailand's South gets murkier the more one looks into it. The certitudes expressed by posters about the "peaceful religion" (which one are we referring to?) seem dubious to this reader. For a more nuanced view of things, the history of the place is essential. Those who do not know of the Kru Se Mosque incident (and the impunity enjoyed by Panlop) or the Tak Bai incident (for which no one has ever been held to account) should inform themselves before passing judgment. It seems odd to me that these are not mentioned in any of the posts above.
Not to get too wonky-headed, but for a couple of scholarly views of the situation, see the articles linked-to below. They are definitely not the official version. Readers will get something out of them, even if they disagree with the writer's take (or general academic wonkiness).

The Thai security forces have committed the same transgression of which they accuse their adversaries: inserting religion into the ongoing violence. Far from being equated with peace, Buddhist monks and temples in the region are frequently synonymous with war. There are very few permanent military bases in the area; since the renewed violence, numerous temples have been turned into military and police camps, some accommodating scores of security personnel.

Thaksin sought to reorganize political and security arrangements in the deep South in order to gain personal control of the area, but in the process he upset a carefully negotiated social contract that had ensured relative peace for two decades.… This analysis seeks to demonstrate that the southern violence is actually inextricable from wider developments in Thailand’s national politics.

Informants have been used for quite a while, you're not the first one to think up that idea.I wish someone would explain what 'tightening' security measures actually means? It is fairly obvious these nut cases are free to travel around and do what they want. So what exactly does tightening mean? They are obviously known amongst their communities so instead of pumping billions to projects in bangkok, make a substantial offer to 'dob' in these people - offer 100,000 baht or 1M baht as money is the most influential item in Thailand. 1M spent on a reward is nothing compared to the cost of the community, the army, the security ongoing. It is petty cash! Similarly for every other person they finger, reduce their sentences by 1 year, so dob in 10 others and get 10 years off yours after a conviction! And yes, that would open pandoras box for revenge tittle tat but due process of law if there is any down there, will sort out the players from the innocent. Just do it...

I don't think we'll see suicide bombings, kid,... we haven't got the Islamic extremists down here, in fact, the Thai muslims are very gentle and peaceful.I don't know what I'm missing here but why doesn't the central gov't send down the army in full force and institute a type of marshall law until things get thoroughly cleaned up...or don't they have that desire and/or manpower?
There is martial law as you term it in effect. The area is inundated with security forces. These terrorists can do as they please because they are supported by locals. All the military in the world can not stop car bombs.
These car bombs are a new development, or at least new as it wasn't the weapon of choice 5 years ago or even two. I have a bad feeling that sooner rather than later we will see human bombs and that the terror attacks will spread to other regions.

It has little to do with religion,In my opinion, this conflict is fuelled by Malaysian elements that would like to get their hands on the natural resources (rubber etc), the three provinces are wealthy compared to most of Thailand,in fact, most of my Thai colleagues here own rubber and palm plantations.

Maybe they were naive enough to try and use a pedestrian crossing, should be hazard warnings for tourists coming into LOS stapled to the 'how to put on your life jacket' card on the flights. While I think the driver should be jailed for felling the scene, the actual accident may not have been his fault. It is possible the women stepped into the path of the taxi and there was nothing he could do. It's not always the fault of the driver. He may have been driving a little fast, but it seems to be a fact that the women were hit while on the road and not the pavement. So you have to wonder what they were doing in the road. We will have to wait to see what the woman who survived had to say. In a hit and run like this in the UK, the drive would also be out on bail.

you read it, but, of course, you are not one of the 'rabble' ...ooooh nooo!!!TV seems desperate for hits. This thread is not news - its barely human interest...
But it's what TV members love to comment on. TV is a business. I don't think they're desperate for hits, it's just that they know the sort of drivel that the rabble on here want to read.

Sometimes it is hard to contain anger - the empathy towards the Southern people is waning fast to the point where I would (almost) suggest round them all up, not matter what creed or colour, and send them back across the border. They have no rights and were given solace in being allowed to stay in Thailand against persecution and biting off the hand that feeds you is no way to express thanks. Destroying innocents lives due to religious BS and beliefs is unacceptable in the 21st century. And if this was a retaliatory gesture from a Thai person against Muslims, go with them. Thailand does not need you or your stupidity. And take your brainwashed families with you.

Funny you should bring that up.......... but the bar girls are some of the most fluent English speakers amongst the Thais, I've seen them with their noses in English grammar books more than a few times.More from the article:
Even more controversially, he then implied that the best way to study a foreign language was by sleeping with a foreigner.

Whilst usually advocating the legalisation of narcotics, I'm inclined to believe that such a policy would be counter productive in certain countries due to the prevalence of lack of relevant education and personal responsiblity.

I strongly feel the Thai T.V. channels should stop all the ridiculous dubbing of English spoken films and documentaries, I mean, those voices they use........ odd........ anyway, keep the original soundtrack and provide Thai subtitles......promote the English language which will be the uniting language of ASEAN.........or is that too practical for the bureautwats in BKK?
