  1. Daily Telegraph has waded in for the Don - everybody likes a winner. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/12/13/only-donald-trump-can-save-the-free-world-now/ In Europe, meanwhile, Trump is primarily remembered for his constant hectoring of its leaders for not paying their fair share towards the continent’s defence, a criticism that remains as valid today as it did then. With several European countries, like Germany and France, seemingly more interested in cutting a deal with Moscow than giving Ukraine the military support it requires to defeat Russia, Trump’s return to global politics might help them to better understand where their true interests lie. Trump might not be the most appealing character in American politics, but he is not someone who is easily ignored. He might be just the person to give the West the jolt it needs to wake up to the very real threats it faces.
  2. It appears that the couriers are Thai rumoured to be connected to Chinese mafia. Back to bringing wads of cash through Heathrow. I have seen folks pulled up but you are by law allowed 10k each as long as you can prove it was legitly earned. That said on the Thai side they will be doubly alert looking for wads to seize/tax. On this trip we brought 5oz of gold we had bought back in UK a year ago from the Royal Mint - sold them at 69k an oz on Yaoworat Raod this week for nearly 350k cash. Thanks to Hamas we made a tidy profit but the transaction costs on either end are prohibitive if we hadn't had the great uplift in post prices.
  3. There is an underground money transfer service. I know it operates in London and agents go around Thai businesses on a weekly basis and take cash that appears within hours on their Thai bank accounts at close to the exchange rate. It is widely used as to how it works god only knows.
  4. If I was some pi yai in government reading this thread I would be more than satisfied that we were over the target. A previous poster who said their wife would go back to voting for the junta has a naive faith that they would reverse the direction of travel. They have found a huge amount of money untaxed and easily traceable in the digital age. Governments of whatever stripe are not going to be able to resist dipping into this pool.
  5. It's been a good run whilst it lasted. What will be will be arrange your affairs as best you can and then prepare for the hit. Will be a lot more forms and hassle though for what was painless before.
  6. Gold bars are always good as cash !
  7. Apparently, she spends a lot of time with her husband which should be some of the safest spaces in Ukraine. It may well be the Russians sending out a chilling message we can get you anywhere or it could on on outside probability be internal power struggles within the high command. There are a lot of dark forces on both sides. If Western aid falters or withdraws there will be a brutal power struggle for control of the country. The Kyiv mayor has already made his feelings clear. https://gazette.com/news/wex/kyiv-mayor-issues-harsh-condemnation-of-zelensky-as-internal-tensions-grow/article_f552efb6-0d63-58a7-a0a6-0c07fc639717.html This could be tit-for-tat revenge as could be this. https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-partisans-claim-killed-24-russia-soldiers-arsenic-in-vodka-2023-12 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/illia-kyva-pro-kremlin-ukrainian-politician-assassinated-near-moscow/
  8. It's a no-brainer buy a new one from a reputable brand. With electrics in the bathroom, you shouldn't take any chances with.
  9. It was a long time ago and most of my information was gained second-hand and he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer - maybe he went here without informing the authorities and got slapped down - I honestly don't know. https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/advice/sex-offender-registration-information
  10. He did/does and it's the gospel truth. I only found that out later as well - mildly underage girls rather than very young kids. Whatever he was a nasty piece of work and had a kid with a bar girl in Thailand but I believe after he did his time for this offence he couldn't travel here anymore.
  11. Thailand has always screwed the poor that's why it's so cheap to live here relatively. As a quid pro quo though they should probably have just one price at the parks and attractions. After Covid virtually every counrty is in big trouble, half the councils in Britain are going bust as well as most of the public servies in one way or another so it's not surprising that every goverment is looking to shakdeown all the money that they can.
  12. His time inside was for kiddy fiddling I believe apart from the fact he paid sod all and took as much as he could from the state.
  13. Surely if they were to realise these ambitions and were still in a state of war with Russia - they would just get attacked by Russian missiles/drones or sabotage.
  14. And a Russian pothead nearly drowned last night at Jomtien. The pot carnage continues....
  15. Probably thought because there was a senior Thai who did time in Australia for heroin smuggling he would be amongst friends.
  16. Abu Dhabi has just laid out the red carpet including a flypast with Western jets to welcome Putin to the Kingdom. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/12/06/putin-makes-rare-visit-to-the-uae-saudi-arabia-to-talk-relations.html
  17. I do believe that there is a cohort of the US electorate that will vote Trump in for a laugh. When I was at school we had an election for head of the 6th form and we voted in the class joker who was a recalcitrant rebel. He won by a landslide and then the headmaster basically annulled the election on the basis that he was unsuitable.
  18. I knew a jobbing builder who spent a lot of time in Thailand, he worked for cash for most of his life and was on the sick for a bad back and depression and had done a spell at Her Majesty's Pleasure. He had a council flat in an outer suburb of London and was on pension benefit so his flat was paid for and had pretty much a full pension and still did odd jobs for cash. Was as white as you like and racist to his bone and spent 3 months whoring in Thailand whilst being the tightest person it was ever my displeasure to meet.
  19. We need to have a coup to stop a coup - that or a "controlled demolition" ! A probable KGB person of influence is looking at a second term and pulling out of NATO scary stuff indeed.
  20. I've gone from hating Trump to thinking if he wins it's going to be the greatest political sh1tshow ever with the Clinton's in jail and more. Real end of Empire sort of stuff. RIP USA.
  21. These 2 events were a severe wake-up call as to Iran's capabilities in the new era and the US projection of hegemonic power. They put long-range missiles onto a US base with pinpoint accuracy defeating AD systems on a US military base and setting 5% of their oil reserves on fire. Then add Russia to the mix with satellite intelligence off the scale of mad. Cheap drones are a real game changer - Ukraine has been the theatre where a lot of lessons will have been learnt. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Martyr_Soleimani https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abqaiq–Khurais_attack Oil would go to the moon and global economies would crash. Buy gold now if you think that could happen expensive as it is.
  22. I almost didn't believe that then I looked it up.Bleedin' hell - what should we carry to the beach just in case such an event was to occur? https://bmcresnotes.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13104-016-1931-8
  23. Thanks but not to worry she does all the money side of things in Thailand I just do due dilegecne asking you excellent gentlemen for your collective wisdom. Much appreciated. The banking cartels here rob the peole dry. In the UK I'm getting 5% interest on easy acess with Tandem app only bank and commercial interrest rates are around 6% so roughly 1% is their cut. In Thailand I think they are charging similar for loans and giving at best 1.5% - a hefty cut indeed.
