A captain always goes down with his ship whistling.gif

Reminds me of Cpt Ahab in Moby Dick

Thing is... His ship is full steam ahead, it is Yingluck's ship that is on the rocks old mate.

Oh i couldnt care less where Yinglucks ship ends up thats been heading for the rocks for a while just as long as this clown dosnt get the chance to scupper democracy.

Actually it would be really cool if a small coalition partner somehow ended up in the seat for a change, they cant do any worse......... i think rolleyes.gif

Yes agreed. if we wanted to run the job we would have to acquire work permits, we couldn't do any more harm, to dream----no visa---buy your land for your house----work your own business---get a police job, morning 9am road block at the end of the soi-----tell your neighbor to shut it---and her dogs-----punch a jet ski bloke---slash tyers of a taxi for overcharging----and have no drink ban on the special days IN TOURIST AREAS----ATM fees scrapped.cheesy.gif

To think about it is a fun dream, given the types of guy's chicks are happy to bring home to their parents, what kind of farang PM you think you gonna end up with? Would he have a Chang singlet and a 'good heart'....

  3. Khun Yingluck just don't want to be hold responsible for saying me, myself and I want the election to be carried out (because my brother told me so). Instead she is again and again hiding behind other people...Be it the parliament, the MP's, forums aso.

When will she ever take responsibility...

She is not hiding, she is doing everything by the book and correctly and she is making a mockery of the PDRC and the Democrat Party.

By calling such meetings she is showing she is willing to listen and she is also showing the world and the Thai people that some people have a hidden agenda by not attending, what they say they want is not actually what they want and so they refuse to attend and discuss.

Why do you think the protests are now getting smaller and smaller ?

In my opinion more and more people (the pawns and gullible ones) are seeing through this reform guise and beginning to question whether this whole protest is do with reform, or a much darker agenda.

In my opinion the suggestion that the polices hands are tied by Sutheps backers and that the Armies hands are tied by the backer of PTP/Thaksin is being brought more and more to the front. People are questioning why no coup and then when they actually look into it they can understand what the rush is to kick PTP out now, perhaps a very much darker agenda which has nothing to do with political reform.

In my opinion a lot of Farangs do not understand the games in the background, what is driving events.

Absolutely correct. By doing everything according to the book, there can be no reasonable criticism. She is giving her opponents all the rope they need to hang themselves.

Very adept politicking, whether by her own hand or those of her advisors. Then end game is drawing close, the white Queen is slowly but surely encircling the black King.

The care-taking PM is just zigzagging along, trying to avoid any responsability, trying to avoid any clear commitment, trying to survive and without much care for the Nation.

YS is playing the game to a T. This is just banal Western politricks folks, one statement, one blank look, watch the back of her head disappear without answering any questions. Simple PR driven actions. Just using the leverage being handed to her on a big silver plate. The 'democratic' politcal game has some rules to it, chess is an apt comparison. Mr Suthep is ten pin bowling. Thailand must decidedly remove such strong visible emotion from politics to reassure the ordinary people, but one respectfully is not naive to the real source of the emotion. Neither side shows much care for the nation, it's politics. In the west you get a doggy treat once in a while, nice gutters, littering fines, council regulations to do your head in etc. It's the lofty heights of expectation promoted to the supporters of both feuding parties here that really worries me.

  4. Many Western media reports on this touchy Thai political topics in the last, say 10 years or so, and find themselves being attacked by Thais or whomever for not being accurate or being biased. I'm wondering then is it the goal of the reporters to write theirs stories so everyone is happy (but inaccurate) or is it better to write what they know is the truth (and sometimes get unhappy readers)?

The Nation has an emotion-level survey on their website.

I clicked on 'happy' but I was lying to save face.

  5. Thailand is a formal treaty ally of the United States - the US's oldest Asia treaty ally, as the OP points out.

That's right. Australians know who they have to kiss up to in a crisis. Notice how some readers think it an all-weather mistake to march on the US embassy, regardless of shirt colour. Think that yellow might make some loud unfavourable statements calling for the Americans to stick it? I would seriously doubt it. America has pretty much fluffed its relations with so many other nations but that familiar anti-US undercurrent never surfaces here for long. 1833 is a long time ago. Besides, the toilets here are American Standard.

And with my last few words, this story is Finnish.

  6. Wow, well that's food for thought. Explains the logic of the simple "get out" demand a bit more than was previously known.

I hope within the cultural framework there is an option to fit the future desires of investment and growth though, as we are way past the 70's in regards to development and infrastructure, and sadly modern money can have very bad manners and very strict rules.

I think the understanding in elite level society is there to adapt to changes but if that's the mindset as to how to expect a solution to be brokered, then I think it's a long shot to believe anyone with anything invested in PTP will let their position of influence wane voluntarily. Might be this test to break the mould and try to counter and nullify, not remove, the threat that matures and unites society for the better.

  7. I'd use QANTAS any day in preference to Garuda. Rated Garuda as 'worst meal' when I was given a warm Coke and a cold doughnut for my flight from Bali to Jakarta. Equal last was KLM, who issued newly boarded passengers on a flight from Singapore to Jakarta with a cheese sandwich. I was doubly p...d off as I'd purposely skipped dinner to have a repeat fantastic meal from JKT to SIN a few days earlier.

I've been using AA the past three years, as I can afford to use them on my pension. Other airlines I'm afraid can't match their prices. Yes, I pay for every extra, but it's a saver.

Ah to compare Qantas with Garuda. Qantas doesn't take off and fly deliberately at low altitude through powerful electrical storms to save fuel, like from Bali to the infamous Yogyakarta airport with even the stewardess' locked into their seats in full prayer (however Mt Merapi flying out is farken spectacular).

Garuda was pillaged way before Qantas had earned its sterling no crash rep, back in the old days when cricket and footy was sponsored by ciggies. Air Asia style is agreeable because there is less pointless waste serving the food and the airline can probably make cash from branding their menus, not hire anyone to make the food just buy it in from existing chains. Gotta be some advantage in that, however frugal and unwelcoming, because when they try to cut corners for savings on the food you get yuck in a box. If you fly out of Samui you stand a high chance of yuck in a box. Is that raw potato salad?

  8. Is it a fire horse year?

The Thai's have it covered, they have two sides worth of media and no real middle-ground trusted neutral sources. They fuel themselves up with the partisan stuff very very well.

Cautious reliance on that communication mega-platform is a nice ideal, given it's ability for change and real-time delivery of info directly into a big pack of human bodies on the streets, some reports can come very easily and frivolously in the modern age and then be recalled like a bad batch of hamburger meat.

I wish the screen-loving, cellphone-toting, 'beep'beep' attentive Thai's all the best of luck in the coming weeks, you surely will need it. Just like a fake phone, the fake news looks, feels and works just like the real deal, but has no warranty when the battery catches fire and burns your earhole.

  9. What is bad for Thailand is good for its neighboring countries. I can just imagine Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam licking their chops and rubbing their hands seeing Good Ole Thailand - Land of the Free go down the drain - Thanks to Suthep and his followers. Hmmmm. Interesting. Innnnterestiiiing.

Looks great for some when people think Suthep did all this, he seemingly has made not a single policy in the modern-privatized 'kneecapping' style. Those licking their chops are probably newly set-up offshore Thai businesses.

These are in-part ASEAN's desired reforms too, they want only strict control and discipline over which fingers are in the pies. Thailand is way way too prosperous to head into the future being such easy pickings for corrupt individuals. The corrupt individual is being pushed to give way to the much more discreet corrupt multinational conglomerate, that will be veiled as a shiny new progress machine, yet the culture of individual 'one-uppance' must be sorted out first as it doesn't fit with the culture of quietly selling off and buying up everything that has not been nailed down.

Whose name signs on the line?

Thaksin's wealth is hardly relative to his massive influence, which is hardly culturally sensitive on his part. He is a queue-jumper in the elite's world. Both him and Suthep are playing huge roles in potentially setting the new standards of law and order for all these other nation's supposedly stealing Thailand's thunder. Could just give rise to a new regional model with the reformed Thai's as the regional leaders.

The Land of the Free, just trying to finish off what they started 20-odd years ago, The Land of the Freely Bought, Sold and Traded Worldwide Inc. Sadly certain big companies prosper from war too.

Interesting indeed. If it's a bit staged then it sets the Thai's in good stead to justify maybe first privatizing the cop shops and reforming customs on the borders to 'shine' up the appearances; and if it's all a bit too real then ignorance won't bring any more bliss, it'll just see you as an easily manipulated pawn in a rich man's blood feud wearing a cheap coloured tshirt that might have, God forbid, been manufactured in Cambodia or Bangladesh...

  10. All foreigners in Thailand should know that it's best to stay out of this, or risking being deported:

    attachicon.gifimmigra (1).jpg

So why are the Thais so fearful that foreigners might join a protest??

Because the way Thailand has operated for many many decades, the Thai's don't want any interference no matter how ridiculous it may seem. Plus whitey better hope he has read every little article he can find before he goes in to a yellow protest site, we mighta just got a tiny bit of culpability here (by association), even if it's merely through naivety and ignorance to the bigger picture being painted. You better know how you may be viewed, you may be unwelcome as the Western news agencies might have been promoting a different angle to what sentiments you are trying to share with the protesters in yellow. They seem panicked they don't have a voice.

As any other nation in the Thai's position in the world, they probably fear most the power and leverage of Western judgement, the point of this protest is a cry for self-determination and they sorely need to use their own judgement in settling this, otherwise they won't accept it.

Stakes are too high, in my opinion you'd be utterly mad to go in there, plus you're enabling an opportunity for anyone who would desire an injured farang in the melee. Think about it..... great potential PR for one, great damage for another's cause.

Just be a bemused spectator as always.........

  11. Blah Blah Blah...do they realize, how ridiculous, they sound to Thai people? Thai people don't take advise, suggestions or orders from outside the Country.

The suggestions are all good, but Amnesty International has no rights, or power in Thailand whatsoever.

Their heart is in the right place, but they should do their research before they open their mouth. wai2.gif

Not true at all. In the 70ies the U.S. airforce wanted to install airbases for bombing Laos and Vietnam, and Thailand agreed in the aggression of his neighbour.

    Well:

Thailands elites was scared of the communists

USA gave a lot weapons and training for free

The soldiers came with buckets full of money and inject it in the economic, pushing Thailand forward

    USA is a scary enemy

Most probably the USA greased the decision

Thailand (but also most other countries) love to show power against their neighbors

    Amnesty International can do what?

They can posture up ready to go like everyone else, like Italian footballers at the world cup ready to hit the floor in front of the cameras if it gives you leverage in the game.

    USA is a scary enemy.

  12. I'm sure the Thais will welcome advice from outside sources especially other Asians.

You MUST be joking! Thais don't like to look for 'advice' from foreign sources, especially other Asians they have a 'history' with...

    Um, he was joking.

Who? The Malay? Giving advise to Thai?

They better go look themselves in the Mirror.

    What's next?

    Afghanistan give advise I suppose.

Yup, I'd have a listen to that conversation. That's some potentially crystal-clear mirror.....

Lee Kuan Yew's desire for a Malay Malaysia, Mahatir's "no more lazy Malays", the stories of all the civil and international conflicts from the late 40's through to the 60's and 70's, their understanding of world history and their role within it, the ability to carve out a national identity while swimming in Chinese and Indian culture, those 'nasty' protectionist work policies, they may have a few tidbits that would be interesting to hear.....

And next, yes, the Afghans, that is indeed very clever, they could help you understand certain advisors, anyone in politics here stick out like a Karzai?

Advise indeed, no one needs to listen to advice. I'd advise you not to take my advice seriously.

    I love you Thailand.

  13. 'Third-Party Insurance'

An insurance policy purchased for protection against the actions of another party. Third-party insurance is purchased by the insured (first party) from an insurance company (second party) for protection against another party's claims (third party).

Second party might be the fourth estate? Sadly for them they can't plead the fifth....
  14. A military tribunal at The Vague ruled that the "C" word is not likely a civil war nor a coup.

"For Crisis sake" one heard them mutter.

A factional coup is an insurgency with a certain hue.

Leadership in exile suggests the proposed victim likes to eat watermelon.

Watermelon suggests that a unified coup is impossible if half the sets of ears burn when they hear the "C" word.

How about "Consequences"? That starts with a 'C'. Discuss that 'c' word and remove the threat by opening the eyes of the people to see what all these 'c' words mean for their future. People are hard of hearing banging the coloured saucepans on their heads.

We are just heading for "Crisis". Misery loves company.

  15. Dear Sir Les, cultural attache to the greatest nation of arrogant slobs on earth....

I don't think after the way the first 13 years of this decade played out, that they are going to let the dollar slip until they have consolidated the last few countries with nationalised industry that they want to have hold of. It's just the petrodollar that keeps it as the reserve currency and we've seen what happens if you try to fiddle with the plans of big oil. Maybe also within the world's largest banks there is some sentiment to stick with the U.S. regardless of performance, like a sharp pebble in people's shoes trying to take a confident stride forwards. Certainly within the intel community there is plenty of scope to maintain status quo, given that you can probably eaves drop on any business meeting on earth.

I think we get a decade or two more of proxy wars, with the U.S., the Chinese and the Russians et al. trying to consolidate their lot, Thailand is getting its 'reform' now which is interesting, maybe this plays a part here?

Thailand has long-standing defence treaties with the U.S. however the current Thai PM said something like "Thai's are originally Chinese and should look to focus on China for the future". So maybe there is a bit of a proxy face off about to happen. As for the U.S. currency actually falling from reserve position- no chance- not without half the planet being set on fire in retaliation............. and then after a big big destructive war, they can probably start marketing and producing all their new energy technology, but unlikely prior to while they have any competitors.

Or maybe they are the bestest of friends with China, and all the multi-billionaire individuals probably dont mind swanning it with the other fat cats of the world, and it's all just a bit of a game to get us lot to behave... something like that.... and they may all be one big conglomerate soon..... and maybe some technology replaces paper currency when the U.S. dollar finally goes.

  16. There will always be God, until you rid all the people of the thought of God, because where just one lonely sole sits thinking about God, God will exist.

I'm a white guy, I eat pigs, I don't drink, I only get down on the ground when I've dropped something under the lounge, but I've read books and respect that diversity is what makes us special. Science is getting pretty farken close now, holy........

  17. I think where this collective error thing appears it may come down to something along the lines of pictures of school students wearing paper 'blinders' during an exam, maybe there exists just a tendency to copy your friends menu. I know this is exists in Phuket, particularly in the "oh look it's just slipped out of our fingers" days of beachfronts being crowded with small Thai-run businesses. Not only was the poor spelling nearly the same on every menu but just about everyone's food was identical too. I'm not sure if you can still get a barcardi and cock on Surin beach.

It could be that or it could be someone got embarrassed when you noticed all the mistakes and then politely 'no one' did it.
