  1. Everybody quotes IQAir, and they always seem to promote Chiang Mai as one of, if not the worst polluted city in the world. Whenever I look at https://www.ventusky.com/?p=17.2;100.9;5&l=pm25   this is never the case, with the eastern half of China and places in India being many times worse, as one would expect given the amount of dirty industry going on there.

So what's your angle regarding the hot spell in Thailand. From my angle, you seem to be saying it's not happening, or perhaps that it feels hot, but is not a physiological fact.

It obviously is hot, 40.6C today - hottest I have recorded, but not out of the norm for April/May. The same conversations will be had next year......

The heat index even in Surat Thani is 48, with an air temperature of 39.

Up country and in many other parts I think the heat index could be as much as 54.

I've recently started taking some readings. Interestingly during the day my readings tally almost exactly with weather reports, but are up to 5 degrees warmer after 6pm and throughout the evening.  I think it's what is happening in the evenings, especially in urban areas that is probably contributing to heat tiredness, and the very real sense that there is a heatwave.

The relative humidity always goes up after sundown because the air temperature drops and consequently its ability to hold water vapour reduces, causing more moisture. Our bodies are very inefficient at remembering such things. Every summer 'feels' hotter, when the reality says otherwise. If the weather men of the past had calculated and reported the heat index, it probably wouldn't have been any different from now.

If the current ice-age cycle goes to its normal end, with the poles then becoming ice-free, a lot of that water will be air-bound, probably putting paid to most of mammalian life - humans for sure.

    Humidity?

Yes, I know humidity has a major effect on how we humans feel and are endangered when it comes to higher temperatures.

If I had a wet bulb thermometer system I would add that, but I don't. The humidity monitor I had failed after a couple of years.

From occasional observation I would say that the humidity hasn't changed much year on year, it going up during the evening, and with rain obviously having the biggest impact. 31% in my house now.

    Nice!

    Well Done!

Note:  Do you live close to or far from a city?

Note: Has the vegetation and tree cover remained basically the same during the past five years? (Has there been any significant clearing of land for agro purposes or building purposes near you?)

20 minutes south of Chiang Mai city center.

As I said - the immediate environment has not changed in any way that would effect the readings during the 5 years.

Here is max min and average per day:

    So....

Have you been recording the Daily Minimum Temperature for all days of the year, during the past 5 years?

If so, then what can you say about the Daily Minimum Temperatures?

Are they the same, year on year, or are they gradually rising?

But still your data will not tell you much.

You need to have many well-placed temperature sensors throughout your region in order to avoid introducing artifacts due to things like the heat island effect, and other anomalies.

Weather is a very Fickle Thing....

I have recorded the temperature every 15 minutes since 11th Jan 2019 at 5 different places around and inside my house so as to get an in-the-shade reading (no single place is in the shade all year round) as well as in direct sun. Each sensor is in its same environment - nothing has changed to skew readings during the 5 years.

The daily minimum temperatures are indeed rising, at least obviously during the cool season.

Here is at 6am and 10pm.....

  7. As you already have an aerial that I know works with many, probably all, of the DVB-T2 set top boxes available, maybe just get one for about 400 baht, as it seems your TV digital receiver is being 'fussy'. I remember that I couldn't get an Aconatic digital TV to work, so attached one of these boxes to the aerial instead. You just plug it in to an HDMI port.

That looks similar to what I had but what does "This piece will not have an RG6 antenna ***"" as the link states"

I bought something that "looks" like that two days ago but all I get is picture, no sound, so I went to Amori, see above, and they could not help!

PS; I get sound out of the HDMI & USB inputs from non TV sources so I do not believe it is a TV sound problem more an input problem!

PPS; I have also reset the TV sound settings to factory with no result!

Have you tried re-tuning the stations with the 'no sound' aerial attached?

What signal strength levels are shown?

    Thanks!

I know that when they turned off whatever it was back in 2018 we bought a new aerial and bits and pieces.  I now know, thanks to you that I can ignore all reference to analogue.  Do you happen to know what the aerial specs I mentioned earlier mean?

I have looked on Lazada and google but get very confused with different Aerial/booster specs like "Orbit D, QID, D7A, D2A D9A & D6E etc!

So you just need a replacement aerial.

I just bought the cheapest I found on shopee for a TV that is in a room shielded by 2-storey building to it's north and it works well.

I have previously re-used old analogue aerials for digital TVs and they worked fine, but this room's position needed a 'proper' one.....

Yes I switched to something like this which was taped to my window and it worked but it got blown away recently and I have no picture/specs of the actual aerial I had.

Amori had at least 6 different types of areal but nobody seemed to know which one did what!

I saw three that looked identical, even down to the colours but the "salesman" said they were for different system!!

    This is similar but seems much bigger and not the same as the one I had;

To clarify, you no longer could watch terrestrial TV when the analogue signals were turned off 1st January 2018, or you have been able to watch TV, on what would be a digital TV, since then until your aerial exited stage left recently?

  11. 3 minutes ago, scottiejohn said:

    That is my problem!

I do not understand the "Lots of choices available", hence my asking for help to identify which choices meet my requirement!

To put it in simple terms I don't really understand the phrase "Assuming your TV isn't digital - an analogue" wrt my problem.

Please all of you are discussing this with myself, who is a self confessed troglodyte when it comes to Thailand and TV reception out with cable/satellite!

Please bear with me and a technical description, preferably in English of what to ask for would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that a "smart TV' can connect to the internet itself without other connections just like a laptop! If so my TV is NOT a Smart TV.  It has HDMI (2 sockets) USB and the standard RCA video/Audio type inputs if that helps.

When I get home I will see if I can find it's specs and post them.

Thank you all for your patience with me!

Did you use to watch TV on it before the analogue signals were turned off a few years back?
