I just watched the GIF on the golf swing / Clinton falling meme.
Totally inappropriate for a sitting US President to re-tweet and support that, but I sure did get a chuckle out of it.

RIP Loved his music. More and more as I have aged
Right, he was fairly mainstream when I was growing up/teenager but I didn't really appreciate him until bit later in life. Had a few beers at my local tonight and we played a lot of his tunes on the big screen, it was good.

Horrible thing to post in a thread like this.
Compared to some of the insensitive things offered before the blood's dry? No, not really. And this is a thread about Dem gun control.
The country is still struggling at finding a consensus, mired in inane arguments about statistics and pie charts. It will take an enormous amount of moral courage to address this head on. An outright ban of firearms would require years of draconian law enforcement action to level the odds and get a result. A tall order in a society that seems to prefer instant gratification and quick fix solutions. I'm not sure old Winston's quote will ring true, but I hope it does.

There are ramshackle, tin roof houses with families living in them along the bank of my local water source, which is replenished from an open concrete irrigation klong from a distant reservoir. I am under no illusions about the potential for raw sewage and gray water in there. I have 2 phase filter on the house water system but still don't use tap water to rinse my mouth out after brushing teeth.

Tillerson sounds like an adult in a room of adults, discussing an intervention for an unruly teenager. Good that President Trump seems to have stuck a sock in his mouth for now.

A dinner invitation over to their basha might be your last. Worse yet, you wind up being the main course.

As usual, the Thai Visa community show no respect to this gentleman- offer no condolences to his very recent widow.
The Americans here who seem to have firearms bred into them rabbit on about guns- thankfully in my home country 99.9 % of the population would never have handled a firearm- handguns totally illegal.
TV is the pits sometimes.
What are you on about? First comment about the obvious discrepancy wasn't an American. Few others I know aren't American, have commented similarly.
So you wade in, throw around a spurious statement relying on irrelevant, off-topic generalizations and then start thumping your chest about gun control in your country (vs. USA).
And then don't even have the decency to offer your own respects and condolences to the deceased and his surviving wife?
TV is the pits sometimes. Indeed.

The last time they were in port - June I think.
US Navy ship down in Phuket in August as well.
But I don't doubt The Manic, sure there were lots of restrictions during CG in Patts. The Navy, in particular, has become very skittish and PC + the dip issues with the Junta/coup, etc. But the Airdales up in Korat were having a good time, although it sure isn't Pattaya. Thankfully.
Anyway, back on topic. Thanks The Manic for the info.

They will be banned from coming ashore just as the American Military are these days.
They are?

Bummer because, apart from sunning and drinking, there's no other reason to be on Pattaya Beach or Jomtien beach. Unappealing is putting it mildly. Navy beaches down in Sattahip are "ok", IMO.

This to aide can't be talking out of school. If he is, not a good thing.
I reckon the boys at the top don't like to be pressured with facts, or that they should follow the lead of foreigners. They have to be manipulated carefully into thinking this was their idea.

Thailand Gov is stuck in the provincial mud. The Facebook generation will, eventually, pull it up by the bootstraps.
My Immi office scans my passport, details come up on the screen...... and then I hand over lots of dead trees, same as the year before.
They enter a load of data into the computer, capture an updated, digital image........then dip a quill and make the official entry into Moses' desk sized ledger book.
Meanwhile, the Immi Officer at the back is chatting real time with someone 100s of kilometers away on a telephone the size of his palm, then transfers some money via iBanking to top up his phone credit, and buy a Hello Kitty T-shirt from China on Lazada.

Thailand is a goat rope no matter who's in charge. But that's why we love it here.

Well, there was an article the other Day saying that they made a new law giving up to 7 years, if I remember correctly in jail for hoarding plus an insane fine of several hundred thousands of THB, so up to you if you dare
I think you're giving Thailand a bit too much credit. They can't even get people to wear helmets.

Or Europe, at least my home country in central Europe, where you can buy a decent bottle of wine for less than 400 Baht in the supermarket. My (one-way) flight is booked and I'm looking forward to enjoying some nice wines later this year.
Ha ha, indeed. My Mom sups Berringer's White Zin. Still calls it "4 Buck Chuck" although over the years, it's gone up to around $6.00.

Effective immediately, from source to distributors. Existing stocks would (should) still be the same until higher taxed items flow through supply chain.
There may be some cheeky shop owners looking to take advantage of the confusion and put the prices up for existing stock.

Report on MH370 finds 'initially similar' route on pilot's flight simulator

The bit about his home flight sim was known years ago. Annoying that it is the main headline for this article, but only gets a brief mention, and nothing new about it really.
I could be a trial run. Sure. But when I was flying a lot for work, and into flight simulation, I would often fly the route I was about to take, or one I had just come back from.
