Another one.
It is just never ending.
Like a sickness. A disease. A paranoia.
It is a piece of subjective paper for Chris's sake!
In 16 years living here full time, i have never even seen a <deleted>' form, let alone filled one out.
The non stop ranting on here about Thais looking at me, talking about me, sneering at me, looking down at me, yada nada da bing.
It is so tiresome.
All of you disaffected, hurt, expats - stop talking about it, and just f##k off.
And leave us normal guys who still love the country and it's wonderful people, and have seen very little changes in day to day life here in peace.
Thank you.
Yeah, I had that attitude as well. Only a presumption that your situ is fairly common, as is mine, married to Thai woman for 10+ years, live in "our" house (in her name) so she's obliged to report a farang is living in her house. Me. Let that concept marinade for a moment. And then repetatively for ex-province travel, or return to "our" "home" from holidays abroad. Ignoring it will have unpaletable consequences for both of us.
Maybe you lack empathy. Can't bothered until a particular issue affects YOU, and only then will you understand, and approve of moaning. Because that's all we can do, really.
Similar affliction is broadbrushing an entire country's population as "wonderful". Because the ones in your bubble have been, as far as you know, or care to know. Reality and others' experiences, suggest that all Thai people, like others, aren't universally wonderful.

YES! Always seeing foreigners doing the wai but in most cases not receiving it back
Yes, similar at my office after a 100% purge during the Big Joke era.
Dare I say our visits to Immigration used to be enjoyable. No more. I dread it now. Our wai was sniffed at and dismissed by the stone faced drone we pulled for my last annual extension. A real piece of work that one.

3 possible scenarios.
It could be you, approaching all as if they are dumb monkeys, over-explaining simple s**t in your version of pidgen English. They had you at Hello but you're still babbling, so they ignore you and hope your wife will be more succinct.
Or, they don't speak a lick of English, so the sounds coming out of your mouth sound like the noise you hear coming out of theirs. But you insist, cause you're a grown man, certainly you can manage shopping for a 7mm screw on your own. "U Hab Sah-Ka-Roo, 7 Emm Emm Sah-Ka-Roo, peas, you hab?", as their eyes glaze over and they look to your wife for mercy.
Or they are just rude kants, same as you might have back in your country. Nothing to do with language or Thailand.

I believe it's a METV and it now costs 150 quid. It just went up from 125.
This visa will no longer be available when my current one expires. That does not make me feel very welcome in the LOS any more.
A close friend of mine was interrogated at BKK airport last time he came for a 4 week holiday and the female IO accused him of working in Thailand. He is also retired and just comes to the LOS as a regular holiday maker and like myself has done so for years. She eventually relented and snapped "Go" at him slapping his passport down on the table at the same time.
Could you blame him if he no longer feels he's welcome in the LOS.
He and I both have homes in the UK. Neither of us have ever been in any kind of trouble in Thailand. It must be rather unsettling these days if you're a full time ex pat.
So far none of my ex pat pals have relocated or gone back home but it's early days yet and obviously the exchange rate isn't helping either.
Yeah. That I/O, throwing s**t on the wall just to see what sticks. As if a Bad Guy, even a minor Bad Guy, is going to break down in a puddle of tears and confess. It's laughable.
Sounds like the same I/O I got at Swampy 2 weeks ago, nearing midnight. Younger than usual, cute as a button in her too-tight uniform, colorful campaign ribbons and spit-shined bunny rabbit house slippers. After getting her pound of flesh for my felonious infraction and dismissing me like a harried accountant, I amused myself with the image of 500 babbling Chinese mainlanders disembarking an A380 somewhere just behind me, headed her way.
Now, where are those cases......

The answer is no, the same way you answer "no" to questions about unicorns, mermaids and santa claus. It's in the same basket.
But if you want to pretend it's a possibility, then your chances of being right increase to 50/50. But not really. And you'll still never know. So why waste time faffing about with it?

Just get your Girlfriend to check in and sit and have a coffe in the lobby and follow her upstairs after she has the key.
Yeah, what a life for a man's man, eh?
Not only an irrelevant minority, no voice, fewer rights to pretty basic s**t, kept in perpetual limbo, having to report our intention to leave the country, when and where we're going, and when we expect to be back, to preserve a delicate immigration status.
And now we've got a new tether, like a dog in a virtual fenced yard that escapes, and the Thais are obliged to report us running around the moo baan - He's here, no, now he's over there, now he's back. I mean really, are we slipping down the slope so that the once unreal sounding proposition of microchip implants, starts to sound appealing?
But for now, keep yer heads down and stay off the radar even more by avoiding using your name to check in to a bloody hotel. Pretty soon we'll be The Invisible Man, with a single red button on our chests. "Push here for cash".
These babbling dinosaurs down at the Immigration Politburo, a few Leos together after work, might be aware of our little hotel "loop hole", and are letting it go for now, rather enjoying the imagry of the once great ones reduced to hiding in cars and lobbies like a Gik at the boom boom resort. An amusing state of affairs in the slightly paranoid and kooky Enchanted Kingdom.

Ohhhh, I rather doubt I'm the only one who gets it, so don't try to bootstrap by enlisting the anonymous masses without their consent. And then act dumb, like you can't understand what I've said to you. Because you do the very same thing here and in other threads. Moaning about moaners. Oh, you poor dear.

The Daily VDO rext messages are something you get for you, your wife or your kids registered or downloaded something from Internet, sometimes Youtube and it´s Google that gives them the info, or Facebook. Probably registered the phone number somewhere and maybe even saved it for easy fill in forms in computer too.
Thanks for the explanation, but that wasn't the point.
The point is you don't seem to know either, yet you want to downplay and dismiss someone who's asking a vaild question, because you're worn out and weary about internet whingers.
Why continue to smash yourself over the head? Don't click. Don't weigh in. Save yourself from yourself.

Reasonable to question divulging personal information. Only you interpret that as making a haystack.
What's different now than before when it wasn't be asked? Will it be sold? More AIS bulls**t where I was somehow subscribed to daily VDO text messages (in Thai) that had been deducting money from our phone credit all along, without our consent or knowledge?
More Robocalls? They are an out of control blight on humanity in the US already, seems Thailand's catching on - I've gotten a few here.
So, who's really asking for it and why? Never been asked for ID or Ph# at PEA office when paying the bill.

Next step have them without any names so it is pot luck what you get. Getting regular and menthol mixed up should put a few more off.
You seemed to have missed the point intentionally, in order to register your virtues.
And then I saw your other posts, and now I understand. ????

Ah yes, the exuberence of youth, discovering the world, and then 50 years later, lamenting that it's all gone to hell in handbasket. Which is what my Grandmother told me a few times when I was 7 or 8 years old along with "It's all gone topsy turvey!".
But I struck out at 18 years old and thought I'd discovered a secret gem in Thailand circa 1987, but I could have imagined an older fella supping a beer, shaking his head and telling me I was too late, "It's gone to hell, you shoulda been here 10 years ago".

Yes they do have all the records. I wasn’t worried about TM30 until yesterday when a friend told me he had been fined.
He went to immigration to get some required document for his driving licence (not sure what exactly) and the lady brought up his details on the computer and then spun the screen round so he could see it and there were the names of all the hotels he had stayed in over the last few months....he got fined 1,800THB and had to pay it before they would give him the documents he needed.
BUT he wasn’t allowed to pay the fine...as the house was in his wife’s name she was the one who had to come down to the office to pay the fine before they would give him the documents.
Until yesterday I thought this was all a Thai Visa urban myth....it’s not....it’s real.
It's not "real" until it happens to you, or someone you know.

Put up with the TM 30, stop your whining and unless you are returning from outside the country you don't have to bother with jumping through silly hoops. With huge amount of paperwork Thai Immigration have to deal with on a daily what do really think think your chances of ever being caught are???

Common sense thinking there and glad you're alright, Jack.
And of course you're right, quite a few of us (married, g/fs, partners, etc) can adjust accordingly when staying at small resorts and hotels around the country, without much chance of being caught out - which in and of itself, begs an obvious question.
Can't help myself conjuring a parody skit. Vetted many times over, otherwise compliant Good Guy Farang hides in the car behind tinted windows while his Mrs. goes forth to check in under her name, with an anonymous, unseen "+1". Like smuggling your Gik past the prying eyes of Nok the Gob<deleted>e at the No-Tell-Motel Boom Boom Resort.
The bonus is, the wife will always get the "Thai Price"!

Gentle, light rain in my area of Nakhon Ratchasima from last night, just catcing the edge of it by the looks of the radar snap shot above. Ground soak keeping pace, hopefully we'll get some strong, persistent rain this or next month for the reservoirs.

Oh jeezus, I must look desperate, but Jingthing is on-line, and you know he's paying attention to his notications. Bing. Bing. Bong! Or perhaps i'm on his block list, so he didn't see or hear them. Say it in Donald Trump's Manhatten New York voice: "Like, OMG, the Block List, like, it's the biggest and best Block List, EVERrr!".
And all the more reason to not give a s**t. Still, it was interesting to me to know which part of my comment made him Laugh Out Loud. Was it the part about women? Or the part about immasculated former Englishmen men, bowing down to their ex-bar girl wives in Thailand, calling them "She Who Must Be Obeyed"?
If Jing takes A-Fence, and reports me for annoying him against forum rule #69, please don't keel-haul me for it! I'm just kidding around! Go easy on me, please!

Yes. There's a group in my area, had them made locally.
EdIt: I actually don't know source. Could have been ordered on-line and mailed in, but my sense was it was crafted locally and distro'ed among the group.
Why do Thai people ignore Foreigners when they are speaking and begin speaking over them, interrupting them?
