I don't think so ... but this is my guess.

I should thou say, well done in succeeding to book on line.  Many tried and failed.

My speculation is in the coming weeks, we will read more stories of Moderna showing up in dribs and drabs in Q4 of 2021.  My speculation also, is that the Moderna jabs that one has booked via the private  hospitals, won't be given out until December-2021 or Q1-2022.

Huh.  Wife just came in to the room saying she was given a site to register for Moderna up in Khon Kean city, about 2 hours away.  Registered both of us, response said January ~ March 2022 time frame.  Not very useful, but interesting that it dovetailed with your comment/speculation.  We are both under 60, no qualifying medical conditions.

  2. Yes, wife has also mentioned an uptick in prices for some things.

Wandered around Tops yesterday and noticed an (imported) item was priced higher than I'd ever seen before, as well as one or two constant imports, were absent from the shelf.   Supply chain problems pervasive in my area.  Suppose lock down could be exacerbating that.

Other things that were missing from the usual mall/shopping experience yesterday was no music blasting, no ladies shouting through megaphones, and no bored security guards blowing their whistles in the car park echo chamber.  Lock down sucks, but it ain't all bad.  ????

Every year around this time the govt starts talking do we keeping the VAT at 7% (which it's been at for many years) or raise it back to the standard 10%.  The law says it should be 10% unless extended/waivered at a lower rate annually...I think it has to be done by 1 Oct of each year.    Just the annual talk regarding VAT....that is, it would go to 10% unless the govt extends the lower 7% rate which they will do....like they have been doing for years and years....like below 2019 news release when they approved another annual extension keeping the VAT at 7% for 2020.  Yeap...they been doing the annual extension for years....and will for years to come....they are definitely not going to raise taxes with the economy in COVID shambles.

    Ah, ok, thanks, Pib.

That actually makes bringing it up right now, even more mind-boggling, though.  LOL.

  4. Haven't had a bad experience with Vets here, yet, at least as far as overcharging or recommending unnecessary treatment or procedures.  If anything, one Vet in particular went the other way.

One of our Thai countryside dogs got into a fight over a female in heat, appeared his left rear bone joint had been bitten, and he was hopping around on 3 paws, among other injuries.  Went to the fancy, more expensive Vet hospital because I thought he might require an x-ray, which our usual, small shop Vet didn't have.

Mentioned the leg injury and gait problem because I'd carried him in, so Vet didn't get to see it for herself.  Expected she would suggest an x-ray to check for broken bone or torn ligaments, which I would have readily agreed to.  She glanced at it briefly and announced not broken, no problem, and started working on flesh wound.  Mentioned it again near the end, hoping she would take another look, which seemed to annoy her.  Well ok, she sees this sort of thing all the time......

That was 5 years ago and the poor fella is still hopping around on 3 legs to this day, 4th hangs loosely without the paw touching the ground.  Wonderful, gentle dog, it's a shame.

  5. For sure, there will be an echo effect, giving rise to a new batch of obsessive-compulsive germaphobes and gluten-free helicopter moms.

Thankfully, mask wearing was already a thing in Asia, and I really appreciated the virtual absence of mask wearing drama here, unlike the cringe-worthy show put on in other (western) countries.

At the same time, disingenuous social concern fuels cringe-worthy virtue signalling on social media, and that can go into the stupid zone as well.

Bill's Burgers posts a photo of staff doing a COVID inspired deep clean of the shop, which is great, and possibly long overdue anyway.  Tim's Tacos raises the bar with a photo of his staff doing the same + spraying the joint down with disinfectant, so THAT becomes the new standard to impress consumers.  Until Charlie over at Charlie's Cheese Stix, posts a photo of HIS staff doing all that while wearing self-contained astronaut suits.  Etc., etc.....

Well we all know what you are doing in your covid housearrest . Now we know where all the tisseus and handlotion gone at the local shops .

You have a guilty conscious, forcing you to respond.  Better to ignore your impulses when they touch a nerve close to home, and just scroll on by.  ????

  7. This has been on the cards for a while, though, hasn't it?  Previous half-hearted efforts to clean the place up fizzled, as things often do here due to local control self-interests, cops, corruption, etc., but feels like the writing's been on the wall for a while now.

The continuing economic fallout from COVID is a fortuitous event in this regard.  I think it'll happen, and possibly more quickly than anyone would have thought possible.  Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Dark Side is going to undergo changes - good for commercial rental property owners, but probably not welcomed by long-term residents out there.

  8. ^ That.

I expected you to say you hung around SA to grovel, but when you said you carried on to Florida I thought, "Yeah!  Well Done!!" ????????

Not for me to say, but I wonder if these blow-ups have been increasing in frequency and intensity, and if you've looked into your crystal ball to see where it might be headed.  Perhaps not pulling the trigger to add another piece of real estate to the marriage portfolio at this time, was a fortuitous event.

PS: Wife and I flew into Miami a few years ago, drove up to Panama City Beach and did a month in a nice AirBnB house a block from the beach.  Cruised all over the place, P-Cola, on over to Biloxi for a night at the casino/hotel.  Pretty neat.

Is the COVID situation putting a damper on things?

Today, I did manage to get a normal Savings account opened at SCB.  My expired Residence certificate from local Thai Imm. seemed to resolve any questions.

I had requested they also open the SCB Easy Account with 1.5%.  Apparently their system wouldn't allow it even after conferring with their head office.  When I asked if I had a Thai Tax ID they could open it, they said yes.

If I get a Thai Tax ID will that number be the same as would appear on a pink Thai ID?

What gov't office issues the Tax ID?

    Not sure about Pink ID#.

Thai Tax/Revenue Department, find the one closest to you on the internet.

Depending on where you live, could be a small tax office in an Amphur facility.  That's where I started to file the docs, but still had to drive in to the main Revenue Office in the city to finish the process.

  10. 20,000 Baht/year threshold for tax withholding on bank interest, is still in play.

As Skatewash noted, and other members in past years, get your Tax ID # and then bank staff can re-code your account so that tax in not withheld automatically - although believe this doesn't apply for Fixed Accts as noted earlier.

Not a lot of money in my case anymore, but the pay-off was not having to deal with filing a Thai tax return to get the withheld interest refunded.  That alone made the effort worthwhile to me.
