No I am not superstitious , but I have a few rituals which might look superstitious.

I never board an airplane without touching the plane on the outside with my hand just before I enter . Just for good luck I guess, after all my life is in someone else hands  , inside a flying machine , we're up in the sky and there's no escape.

But I love flying so not sure why I would do this ritual . Just have to .

One time I forgot to do the ritual , and I had to fight myself back to the door and touch it before it closed .

That's an odd one, never heard it before.

    Coffee and the weather.

    About it really.

I liked the people for the most part, worked with different castes and varieties, and the cross border Indian passport holders.  Food heavy but good, and that towering Annapurna Range at Pokhara.....very impressive.

Pretty much everything else was in the other column for me.  TBF, country was going through tough political times, just happened to be there when they gave the Royals the boot.  Just never seemed to get organized after that, plus still dealing with the Maoists.  Haven't kept up on anything there in the past 5 years though.

Nepal would be my second choice.

    But I can't be bothered.

What were some of the things you liked about it?

I made fairly routine work trips to KTM over a 5-6 year period, and a couple "tourist" type diversions and overall, not a place I would want to live. JMO.

  4. Well, not to encourage Trump trumpeting but previous Presidents, Secretaries of State and even what's his name with the purple hair and the basketball, weren't getting anywhere.   Obama even tried the good old "ignore the bully and he'll go away" approach, but that back fired.

So Trump trolled the troll, and heck I don't know, maybe he wore the little bugger down at his own game?

I don't think KJU is going to give up a thing but North and South chatting each other up again is a good thing, innit?   In the end, it's them that'll need to get along first.  I reckon the US would like nothing more than to turn the page and get out of there, and hopefully a couple other garden spots as well.

  5. I watched successive, suggested videos after the one above.  Did seem to be a general correlation to pushing the button and the dog(s) body language and reaction.  Ears and/or body twitch was noticeable with several of them.  Some stopped moving and took notice, others seem to melt away, others not so much.

But it is marketed like a cheap gadget, along the lines of the sales pitch and demonstration I observed in the middle east/Gulf years ago by those cheeky bomb detector guys.   What was it called - GT2000, or something like that.

That's exactly what I do with my U.S. bank card, although my main bank is in the Central time zone. That card allows $500 per pull as the limit set by my U.S. bank. So do one pull just before midnight CST, then do another pull for the full amount just after midnight CST. Works perfect every time.  Just have to adjust for the U.S. use/changes with daylight savings time.

Nice, and good to know that does work as advertised.

Me, I quit using my US card in Thai ATMs not long after Aeon started the 150 fee a while back.  Did OTC w/d at my branch for quite a long time until finally giving in to the fees with the DIY ACH EFT program via BKB NY.   Costs a few bucks, that's ok.   Also, the BKB calendar girls at my branch were getting wise to my shenanigans, so I cooled my jets before salacious rumors began to circulate at the local market.

And so I sent Nancy Pelosi's office an email request for a free copy, and got one of those "DO-NOT-REPLY" Auto responses, thanking me for my inquiry, and that I would have to buy the book to find out what's in it.   Sounds kinda dodgy to me, so will let this one sail on by, and by next week, even MSNBC will have moved on.  Because by then, what difference does it make?

So Nancy Pelosi, who has nothing to do with this book, does not want to give you a free copy so it is all dodgy?

    No wonder Trump won.

She got her advance copy for free.  Maybe I can nick it off her when she's done.  Word is she's nearly finished it all in just one sitting.

  8. Ah, OK, my mistake for ass-uming.

I was just looking at my BAY internet banking, poked around in the settings and didn't see where I could change my card and transfer limits.   Maybe it's there and I just don't see it.

It's fairly straight forward on Bangkok Bank iBanking.

There's always the branch as well, if you're near it, it's open and you need a one-time larger hit of funds.

  9. People say he's actually a likable guy in person.  Except Billy Bush and some women, and Hillary Clinton.  F.L. Melania, and Don's former golf buddy, Bill Clinton, couldn't be reached for comment before the book went to press.  What a shame.

But who knows, maybe this tell all book is the latest "Dossier" style offering?  Hopefully the Dems covered their tracks better this time.

I would love to read this book, because his public and #Twitter conduct dove-tails  with the quotes from the book so far.    It seems too easy, the low-hanging fruit.  But I don't want to spend the money on what might turn out to be purely confirmation bias material aimed at a specific group.  More low hanging fruit.

Thanks I will try after midnight

I made the assumption you are using a foreign bank card, not a Thai bank card.  Is that correct?

If so, and you're trying to get higher amount of cash in a short period of time, that's where the "midnight" thing comes in - but midnight wherever your foreign bank is, not midnight Thailand local time.

My bank is in Reno, Nevada. 1500 here (at the moment) is midnight there.  So I should be able to do my card's default max pull ($1,000/day) around 1430/2:30PM local Thailand time.  Go for a walk around the mall, then do another one just after 1500/3PM.

Millions of baht going through the booths each day and you think that not having to give receipts is a good idea!  How many extra milliseconds does it take to pass a receipt with the change?

It's the quantity of cars passing through the booths, and what that process of slowing, stopping and re-accelerating does to traffic flow.

The impressive sums of red herring money you bring up, isn't relevant.

Not giving receipts was not referring to booth to driver receipt issuance, although there is a few milliseconds there, agreed.   Rather, why produce something we don't need only to have the end-user throw it away instantly, and so casually.

  12. Yep, Ahudhya is 30,000 each time.  You can do that as many times as you can until your card's daily limit is reached.  Nothing to do with the local Thai machine.

Yes, daily card limits typically renew each day.  So, technically, you should be able to do a max pull at 23xx hrs in your bank's time zone, then do it again after midnight.  I've heard others say that, makes sense, but I've never tried it.

The other ATM that does 30,000 Baht per time is TMB, Thai Military Bank.  I think there's another, can't remember now, somebody else will say I'm sure.

I would have gone somewhere else except my Social Security and VA pension are direct deposit to my Thai bank account and the VA pays for my health care in a Thai hospital (FMP) also medications are cheap and I can buy them from the pharmacy myself.  My internet is 200Mbps/100Mbps and the Lotus where I shop has three discount brothels attached that sponsor local farm girls who can attend college and only have to work on weekends and holidays after their homework is done.

I'd go somewhere else if the infrastructure was equivalent and the women readily available for old fellas like myself.  Vietnam has monopoly money, Cambodia has Hun sen, Laos and Burma are still in the Middle ages for so many things.  Muslims scare me and Singapore is too expensive and Chinese people dirty and spit and poop everywhere.  But I'll keep looking.

555!  I'm printing this one out hard copy, mount it in a real imitation gold-like frame, and hang it on the bulkhead!
