  1. There is an immigration office in Khemarat. I used to do my 90 day reportings there but I doubt that they could do the extensions as they are only a small office and only really set up for doing stuff for the lao people who are living here legally. In the past I have had to travel to Phibun to do my extensions. Their staff are good and very helpful. Mukdahan has an immigration office but their staff are very unfriendly and seem to make things harder for you.

I did'nt know immigration was offering this kind of service :D:o:D

    Good one Trond!!

I will be back in the area in 3 weeks

    Carl

  2. You are in a similar situation to me with the wife being the sole carer of the child. From what I have been told you either need the father to sign a stat dec or get a court order. Im sure gburns57au will join this topic and he will give you some excellant advice.

    Good luck

Hows things going with yours Sezzo??

The medicals have been done last week in Khon Kaen, next week the wife goes to BKK to do the police check. I am there in 3 weeks and will make an appointment with a lawyer (apperently speaks good english) in Ubon and see how we go from there.

    Will keep you posted.

  4. I've never heard of a frog being "framed" before, but I guess if you

could get the cops to overlook the evidence, you might be able

to put him away for quite some time .. :o

Other than that, you could try you local picture framer .. :D

    Oops :D

  5. Gday fishooks,

Keep us posted as to what you do about submitting you application directly to the embassy. I am there in about 3 weeks and will arrive there with everything ready to submit bar the thai/english translations. The wife and kids have today finished the medicals and next week she goes down for the police check.

If it turns out to be an advantage to get an appointment and submit it directly to the embassy I might give it a go.

    Good luck to all

  6. what channels are available on it ?

Just the normal thai ones that are on free to air tv. From memory there are some bhuddist ones, some christian channels. As you can see I dont watch this tv as I have my sat tv upstairs.

The advantage is that the quality of transmission is much better than the normal antenna reception

Hi Sezzo! can you tell me what type/brand of your receiver and the programs that you running if there one and, also size is you dish? set up etc...i'm green in the free to air sat/tv.i'm live in North america and have free to air sat the channels are unbelievable and, i wonder if it's work the same in thailand. with different set up programs etc....thanks

For my sat tv upstairs I just have the dynasat set top box with a 6 ft movable dish. This is all set up by dynasat. I get similar to UBC statioins but pirated from the phillipines. The free to air downstairs for the wife and family is a fixed 30 in dish.

For more info go to the dynasat website as both set ups were purchased through dynasat

  7. I was thinking about this one myself, we are planning to get married in a few months, and I have about 6 left on my visa.

If I were to set up a monthly transfer from my UK bank Acct to my Thai acct of 40k, would this be acceptable as an 'income', I am guessing not, but maybe worth a try?

Thats all I did for a couple of years and was enough to qualify for my 12 month extension each time. No problems

  9. Anybody tell me a good place to buy a free to air satellite system near Amnat Charoen......thanks

From the main traffic lighted intersection in the heart of Amnat (Bangkok bank on the corner), travel the road towards Khemarat and about 100m on the left is a Dynasat dealer. He will have the free to air sat system you are looking for.

  10. Hi Folks,

I just bought 1 rai of land in Ubon. I would like to have a concreate fence to surround the land. Has anybody here built a fence and also give me an idea what this project might cost. I'm also open to other ideas for fence materials.

    Mike

I have just finished the project to build a concrete block fence around my house. The area around the house is about 1 rai. We built 180m of wall. the wall is 1.8m high with steel front fence railing and a 4m gate. The foundations and the posts had al the correct steel reinforcement and both inside and outside was rendered. Total cost including steel fence and gate approx 200k. The workers quote me 300 baht per metre for labout and the rest was materials.

Hope this gives you an idea

  11. I had always assumed that the Australian OAP was 'means tested'. Is this the case and if so, at what income level does it cut off?

I retired to Thailand in 1997 at the age of 45. My income is from investments in Australia. On the advice of my accountant, I declared myself 'non-resident' in Australia and now pay 10% flat tax on earnings there. That is a lot less than I was paying.

Should I live to the age of 65, (highly unlikly with my lifestyle), how poor will I need to be to receive an old age pension or part there of?

Around sept last year I think the "now departed" Howard announced that the amount of assets that was the max limit before being penalised on your aged pension was doubled. Not exactly sure what amounts were mentioned but look up the centrelink website and Im sure it must be quoted somewhere. Maybe he knew his outcome and was trying to do some good for the aged citizens of Oz.

  12. Sezzo, I do not have to check my map, I have been living here for 4 years and am quite aware of where Mukdahan is. I was just there on Monday, my house to the Mukdahan Immigration Office is 82.4 kms. and took me one hour to drive. Mukdahan to Kalasin City is about a two and one half hour drive. Maybe you should look at your map, look for Hwy. 2042 going west out of Mukdahan and follow it to the Kalasin border about 4 kms. further you turn left and go 6 kms. and come to my house, however as the crow flies it is about 7 kms. and Roi-et about 3. I am talking about the provincial boundaries, not the cities. Issangeorge.

My aplogies to you. When I hear of place names I automatically think of the cities rather than the province.

    Sezzo

  13. Are you moving to Mukdahan City? I live in a small village in Kalasin, just 7 kms. from Mukdahan and 3 kms. from Roi-et. Issangeorge.

I think you need to check your map. Mukdahan is about 3 or r hours drive from Kalasin. Maybe you are mistaken with Mahasarakam. This is near Kalasin. Mukdahan is on the Mekong river across from Savannakhet in Laos.

To the original poster, there are a few farang living in and around Mukdahan. An american guy there has a coffee bar near the Ploy Palace hotel. His name is Ralph, and he will know of more farang in the area. A lot of farang use Mukdahan to do there visa trips when on a multi entry Non Imm visa.

Enjoy the area. Its small, quiet but interesting.

  14. Every article I have read on this states that the applicant must supply information on places where they have LIVED for more than 12 months in total over the last 10 years...

    or

where they have RESIDED for more than.....

Being here on holiday is neither residing or living here....it can not be considered as such as she has not been granted permission to live or reside here....

As I said ....a very long bow.

Again I think it comes down to the interpretation of the rules by the Case Officer or if a directive has come down from the Embassy boss. Their CO is Wanida who has had some good reports on here.

Chris, the clearance is only good for 12 months and they dont fall in the category for a permanant visa to be granted in the first instance.

Sezzo, I have worked in the Custodial security area in two jobs and both times I have not been required to supply an AFP clearance....that is because I have remained resident in WA for over 20 years...you must have moved around a bit then?

As for the 30 day time limit for the clearance guys.....that is taken from Immi form 1101. Although I dont doubt it can happen faster than that.

    Graham

    Graham,

A few years ago in NSW/ACT there was a requirement for all security guards current and prospective employed to get a police clearance. Subsequently half of the security guards in the industy all of a sudden resigned. Im not sure if it happens Oz wide but definately its the norm in this part of Oz.

    Carl

  15. I noticed on the present form for application for a spouse visa they the applicant needs a police check from every country that they have resided in for 12 months or more. Perhaps the immi dept have considered her 5 tourist visas as a total of 12 months or more in Oz.

I had an AFP police check done on me for my present occupation as a security officer. This took less than 2 weeks to complete and be granted.

  16. I have just sent a PM to Sezzo and Stinky.

The lawyer did translation work for my childrens birth certificates and my wedding

    certificate.Also land documents etc.

His work was OK for both British and Aussie embassies.

He was charging-a few months ago- 200 baht per page.

    Thanks mate, I appreciate that
