Wrong Way.He did translation work for me years ago for childrens birth certificates etc.

Also last year translating stuff for my wife's Aussie tourist visa and British tourist visa.

Will go around there later and get his address,phone number and maybe e-mail address and send them to you.

Does anyone know of a good lawyer in Ubon. My wife needs to get the certificate/documents giving her sole custody of the kids. This is needed for an application for spouse visa to Australia. I dont think there would be any lawyers in our town Khemarat that could handle this sort of situation.

Theres been no contact for over 12 years. I explained to her last night what is required and she will go to the amphur today and then try to find a lawyer to start the court process.

I know that I am probably clutching at straws but here we go. This form PK14 that has been mentioned before for use to present to the court declaring that she is the sole carer for the child, she is not legally married to the father of the child and has not had any contact with him for x amount of years. Does anyone know if this form is able to be downloaded off the net. I realise that the thai system probably wouldnt be as modern as ours but its worthwhile asking. It would make it heaps easier to explain to the wife what she needs to get filled out and presented to the courts.

I have an Oz friend who is also applying for a spouse visa for his missus. They married in Oz whilst on a tourist visa so officially in Oz she has his surname. Does his wife need to go and get her ID and passport changed to reflect their Oz marriage certificate. I suggested he just go and register at the amphur and then they would make her change the ID etc.

Any advice for him???

ChrLadAll i'm suggesting is if you are currently in Oz then it is easier to pay with your credit card here but you must ATTACH the RECEIPT to the application when lodged in Bangkok.

And from what Ive been told make sure you keep a copy of the receipt in case it gets lost or detached from application

Good on ya mate for asking that question. Ive been getting my wife to find out some places up our way and she doesnt know of any. I know of one place next to the Oz embassy, a bit pricey but good work.

Medical 2200THB

Photographs passport size 300THB for 3.

Bank cheque 20THB

Visa Fee 40870 THB Note DIAC currency converter is used it is not the same as the Thai bank rate.

VFS service fee 535THB.

On top of that you will have transport costs and incidental expenses.

I will be paying the fee here in Canberra before going over in feb. Get it out of the way early. I spoke with immigration here on monday and if lodged in BKK the fee is approx $1400 but if lodged in Oz its arouond $2000. No matter the costs Im sure it will be allworth it in the long run

No one should complain about costs in Bangkok for translation services. In Australia you would be paying AUD80 per A4 page or more in some cases.

You are right there. Earlier this year I pad $80 just to get my thai marriage certificate tranlated into english. I will check out the Bangkok Post as advised.

Our documents were translated by Thai brother in-law. He spoke and wrote good English, had a high ranking position in Government run company and just used the stamp to say his level and the company he worked for to endorse the documents translated.

These translated documents were accepted by the embassy. Saved us a lot of money in translation fees. I am not really quite sure what is a certified translator in Thailand.

I just add this because of the cost saving that you can make finding out if someone in the family can do this for you and is accepted by the embassy.

There is nobody in my wifes family that could do as you mentioned. I have used a tranlation service near the Oz emabassy a few times before but I dare say with all the tranlating required they would be expensive. Also then I had to go to the ministry of fareign affairs for certification. This is also timeconsuming and costly.

Does anyone have any recommendation for certified translaters in Bangkok that are reliable and not so expensive.

What suits one may not suit another, People will do things their own way.

For instance my friend who should have just lodged their application this week, had his wife do the medical and police about two weeks ago before he went there...They have filled out their forms and collected their evidence together before his wife went back to BKK, All the Thai Documents have been translated in the last two weeks also...they should have lodged the application today...they will use the bank cheque that can be issued at the VFS office. The medical and po;ice should be at the embassy by the time they lodge the applications, the interview should be in a couple of weeks.

What exact thai documents are to be translated. I understand things like statements about relationship etc but what about things like tabian bahn etc. My wife has some papers from the amphur saying that she is the sole carer of the kids. Would this need to be translated.

I live on a farm outside of our village and funny how the thai people tend to avoid walking or cycling near our fenceline. Must be something to do with our young and large german shepherd barking at anyone who comes near. Truth be known, he wouldnt hurt a fly. But appearances can be an advantage.

Last time I went over to Laos it was 1500 baht for a 15 day tourist visa. Not sure about long term visa

I have already started gathering the info back here in Oz. A aussie mate who lives close to us in Thailand is also going to apply for a visa for his wife and therefore will be taking my wife and son with them to BKK for police checks and Kohn Kaen for medicals. That helps us heaps. I will gather all the relevant info this end and then in feb drive down to BKK and submit it all with her. Good tip about the forms as the one I have is about 2 years old now. Im going to the immigration dept here in Canberra on monday to get the latest editions.

The piece of paper you are referring to is a Por Kor 14 which is a pro forma Statutory Declaration.

While it may not be needed, it wouldnt hurt to have one just to tie things up nicely. She merely needs to declare that she is free to marry and is not legally married to any other person. It can be witnessed at the amphur office.

It is no different to supplying a stat dec here in Oz.

Thai ID card and house registration book is all she requires. She will have to obtain a new ID card with her married name (and a new passport at a later date). The ID card is linked to the passport. She will be asked in Thai at the Amphur Office if she is free to marry and this is documented on the proscribed form by the official carrying out the registration. All documents are in Thai.

However if you intend to be married in the future in Australia it might pay to get a Por Kor 14. and have it translated.

(In Australia you may have to get this document certified by DFAT. )

I just recently got my Thai marrieage certificate translated in Oz. Funnily enough it couldnt be done here in Canberra but got sent to an authorised translation service in Melbourne. It was certified as a true translation but not by DFAT but a govt recognised organisation. This was all done in preparation for a govt job and it was readily accepted. I think its a handy document to have for the future.

I have been following this thread with interest over the past few days as I am also in the early stages of getting a spouse visa for my wife. I am in Oz presently and would like to get as much as I can done here before I head over there shortly to submit the application with her. My question to all that read this particular thread is when to do the medical and police checks. Can they be done in advance so that maybe this may hasten the processing time. Or do you have to wait for the application to be submitted and the embassy tells her to go and have a medical and xray. Secondly, in our case we live up country and will have to travel to Khon Kaen to get the medical done. Does an appointment need to be made to have the medical or can you just show up and wait in the queue like in most thai clinics.
