  1. Thanks for all the help. I have a budget of around 25-30K per month for the rent plus what ever the electric and water charges are on top of that. The main thing is spacious, with reliable fast internet, a balcony and on a taxi route. I'm looking around everywhere online but it is almost pointless as I'm not moving over until September.

  2. Thanks to everyone for their input. With regards to the Internet situation. I would require a reliable and secure Internet connection, preferably not shared with the rest of the building as my job requires it and as fast as possible. Willing to pay what ever it costs to get it installed as quickly as possible.

I'm looking for a fully furnished condo preferably with a shared pool and gym if possible.

I think the consensus from the various people I have been in contact with is that I turn up in Pattaya, stay in a hotel for a couple of days and spend that time looking around different buildings. I've frequented Pattaya and Jomtien quite a few times over the years so I know my way around. Hopefully something crops up quickly.

    Thanks again.

  3. you can move in depending how quick you can sign the contractsmile.png

95% that you find online are avalible now,but most of the real estate companys websites are old and no uppdates,

Drive around is my best advice, there is signs and walk in to the condos office, most have a board were tenants put

condos for rent or the management can help you in many case.Internet many condo have wifi and its ok for email but not more ex work etc then you need to get your own line and then you need to check before you rent that that building have line avalible. Not the condo but the TOT or 3BB or any one you like.I Found a condo the other day, called 3BB no line box full in that area so check this if importent with internet line. Not more than 1 week to get internet. Most landlord want 2 month deposit+1one month rent,Importen also check what the price is for electric, some condos charge much more the goverment, should be around 4-5baht,not more.

Thanks for the info mate. I would prefer to get Internet that isn't shared amongst everyone else in the building as my job requires that I have a fast and secure internet connection. The 2 months Deposit & 1 month rent seems very strange and and expensive way of doing it. Most other countries would only ask for one month rent and one month deposit. This could be a deal breaker.

  4. I'm moving over to Pattaya on business for a minimum of a year and I'm looking to rent a condo in Jomtien, Pratumnak or Pattaya. What would be required if to rent a place and how quickly do you think it would take from seeing a place I liked to moving in as I don't really want to spend too long living in a hotel. What sort of deposit can I look to have to pay? Is it the standard one month rent and another month rent as a deposit? If the apartment doesn't have Internet, what sort of turn around time could I expect to get Internet install and up and running in the apartment?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. I'm moving over to Thailand in September and I've got a 24" iMac that I would ideally like to bring with me but it weighs 11kg plus if I got a proper hard flight case for it it would probably add another 2-3kg on top of that.

What would be the cheapest way of getting it over to Thailand from the UK? I'd imagine excess baggage would cost a fortune.

Thanks for any advice you have.

  6. Thanks for the info. If I went with the triple entry visa that basically means I can leave and enter Thailand to extend my visa for 60 days 3 times within 180 days? Is that correct? What would my options be after the 180 days is up? I'm totally confused.

If I leave Thailand via air, can I get a 30 day visa rather than the 15 day visa going by land?

  7. Thanks for the info. So... let me make sure I have this correct as I'm worried I completely screw this up. If I enter Thailand on a 60 Day Tourist Visa and get an extra 30 days at immigration in Bangkok then I can either go on a visa run near the end of my 90 days and get another 60+30 day tourist visa in Cambodia or I can simply go to any immigration office and extend my Tourist visa for 30 days.

To be honest I would probably pick the easiest option of extending my visa each month for 30 days.

...but.... How many times can I visit the immigration office and extend my visa for 30 days? Surely they would clock on and start to think I'm taking the piss by staying in Thailand for so long. Would I need any additional documentation to extend my Visa for 30 days?

Thanks so much for everyones help. Much appreciated.

  8. Personally i would not come on a 60 day planning to stay for a year i am prity sure 1 60 day visa there is no way you can do monthly bounces to stay a year.

How do people who enter Thailand on 30 Day Exempt Visa's manage to stay so long. Surely they have to do Visa runs over the border each month? If anyone can clarify this for me then I would be grateful. With the triple entry visa, would this mean that every time I cross the border I would get 60 days added?

  9. My fiance and myself are moving over to Thailand in September and planning on staying for minimum of 1 year and entering Thailand on an Extended Tourist Visa (60 Days) and doing the usual monthly Visa run for another 30 days etc. It appears to be cheaper (not by much) to buy a one way ticket but I have heard some people have had problems at airport check in counters where they have been refused travel because they don't have an onward ticket or return ticket. I will be flying from Edinburgh, UK to Amsterdam with KLM and then Amsterdam to Bangkok on China Airlines.

Has anyone had experience of flying One Way with KLM & China Airlines or have any advice? Tried phoning China Airlines but it's a nightmare trying to get a straight answer from someone. Last thing I want is to turn up at the Airport and be refused travel.

    Thanks

  10. I avoid bars with scottish flags like the plague

... What's to say they don't put up a Scottish Flag to keep you out? Haha. Sometimes it's good for a Scotsman to have a drink amongst other Scotsmen, it reminds you to laugh in a harsh city like Pattaya.

  11. every drugs bust that we see now on a weekly basis is always from a ' Tip Off ' , do they actaully catch anyone with out a tip off ?

Yeh, where do the tip off's come from? The rest of the smuggling party. They need a fall guy, a distraction so they set up some mug and he's picked up by the airport police whilst the rest of them saunter through security with twice as much ice as the idiot who was tipped off as being the carrier. Why do the Thai police keep falling for it? Oldest trick in the book. In my opinion, if they are tipped off that one guy on the plane has this much ice, they should be stopping every suspicious passenger on the flight and searching them.
