I don't think immigration will do an extension of stay based upon being the parent of an adopted Thai child.

Bit of a cynical thing to do, just to get a visa.

I would think/hope that legally adopting a Thai child would not be that easy or quick. I certainly hope someone from Immigrations reads this thread so they will know what the latest gimmick is.  Sounds like a form of cynical human trafficking.

And if the adoptive parents decide to pack it in, will they turn in the child at the airport along with their boarding passes?

Not the same issue exactly, but equally disgusting: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/747913-australian-couple-abandon-down-syndrome-baby-with-thai-surrogate-mother/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thaivisa24+%28Today%27s+best+Thaivisa+topics%29

I hope the immi doesn't read this post for the exact opposite reasons.
What about the people who cannot have children but want to adopt? They will all be classed the same as the people who are trying to scam the country.
Hopefully this idiotic thread will go away soon
  2. Sounds like an elaborate con to me, but the only kink in the story is that you bought him food / necessities instead of giving him cash and he was grateful... Odd indeed...

Yes, that sound strange to me too.

OP, Where did you get the food from, was he guiding you towards a conveniently located nearby food seller or did you just pop into the nearest 7/11 ?

I was walking same direction as him when he mentioned buying him food I saw a 7/11 on the opposite side of the road over a bridge ahead of us so I headed to bridge and walked over it and took him to that one theres was also one in front on same side.

Good on you, someone doing a good deed. Rarely seen these days

  3. Congrats

I think folk should take a minute to look what they are getting their handbags out for.
It's a flippant question and I'm sure no offense was meant.

    Have a great Sunday folks

Please read post #27. There is a deception, it's a conspiracy

Hi jambco, if you had seen his actions on another thread today, which was made to incite an argument, you would realize that it wasn't flippant and offense was meant.

    Ahh OK.

    Then there's nothing for it...

    Punish him :D

  4. Jambco98, with a flight ticket out of Thailand with 29 days from arrival, your folks will have no problem whatsoever travelling without a visa. If they plan to stay longer than that, they should apply for a single-entry tourist visa. This is valid for travel to Thailand within 90 days from its date of issue, which means they can apply already now, if they wish. Myself, I usually apply about one month before the scheduled flight date.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

    Thanks for the info

    :D:D
  5. I thought the visa on arrival rule was being scrapped in August??

I may have got this wrong - but I thought that from August you will not be able to re-enter for another 30 days after your initial 30 day stay by doing an out/in 'Visa Run'?

If you parents have been out of Thailand for a while and they are just making one trip of 30 days max they should be OK?
More likely I have got it wrong.
As I said I haven't been keeping up to date with things.

    Cheers
  6. My folks will arrive at the end of September for a 30 day holiday. Do they need a visa from the UK before they arrive? I think they do but haven't been keeping up with the changes fully.

Also if they do need the tourist visa, how long before the holiday are they allowed to go and get the visa?

    Thanks all

  7. Jambco,

Might have been a long time out of the racing game old fella, but he'd knock 10 bells out of you or any person on this forum, on any bike, any track, any road, any surface, any weather, any time, any place oh and on any tyres.....in fact:

Carl George Fogarty, is the most successful World Superbike racer of all time in terms of the number of championships and number of race wins.

Now retired, he is renowned for his high corner speed riding style, combined with an aggressive competitiveness, which netted him 59 victories and four World Superbike Championships (1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999).

What year was your Honda Click, by the way ?

Never said he wasn't the dogs b****cks back in the day.

I have great respect for the chap.

    Oh wow!

Another poster who can copy from Wikipedia (place to go for all facts). You must be well chuffed

    Never mind.

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings with too many laughing smileys.

    My bad!

    Back on topic -

Any more reviews and thoughts on the bike?

  8. I don't know if this is the right place but here we go in 'General Topics'.

When I want to buy something up country it is nearly impossible without a trip to a bigger city blah blah blah.

I'm sure you CANNOT post the websites or links but what about the names of good companies that could be easily searched for using a search engine to speed things up.

For example, Today I found a peach of a site using this very forum.

If I was in the market for a specialist beer then a company named 'wishbeer' has some good choices from around the world.

Can we have a place for online stores without plugging them or giving them lots of free advertisement.

    Things along the lines of,

    Gifts

    Sporting goods

    Clothing

    Car and bike goods

    Food and drink

Anything that you can think of, just a simple explanation of what the company does and a name to search for.

PLEASE - NO reviews or abuse of companies.

    I hope this is OK.

    Cheers

  9. Tyre snobbery.

Sorry to have to drag Carl Fogarty out of retirement again.

So all you in the "IRC tyres are crap" gang.

we'll stick Carl Fogherty on a 300F (as its a 300F thread) with the standard IRC tyres and you on a 300F with your "top jolly" tyres - and have a race......wet, dry, on a race cuircuit or through the traffic, i'm sure Mr Fogaerty would knock spots off you, with those "rubbish" tyres.

    Food for thought.

yes, sure Carl Forgety beats all of us here with IRC tires but i am sure he will not be racing with IRCs.

He'll be racing with the tyre comapny that gives him the most money...

Carl Fogarty is long retired, stop living in the nineties.

I was just thinking the same. He's been a long time out of the racing game thumbsup.gif

  10. You knew I would be here and if you go back to UK and want NHS treatment just fall down and lay in the uk terminal when you arrive and a NHS ambulance will come and get you.

Thailand for me is very cheap for health care.biggrin.png

I know you're here most, if not all the time Mr K biggrin.png

A nice bit of acting at the terminal might be a bit premature.

Possibly get through customs first then declare your ailments to the world and those around you thumbsup.gif

Thailand is very cheap you're right. For a headache and a sore throat and possibly a little more severe. Would you like your slush funds depleted due to the big C? I cant see that being a cheap un. Unless you have medical insurance

I watch very carefully what I spend in Big C it's Gobal house that's getting my money at the mo. laugh.png

    I know how you feel.

It's had a fortune off of me recently too

I wouldn't use my funds to treat the Big C, you're as good as dead anyway, even in the West - Steve Jobs, Patrick Swayze etc.

    Great optimism, thanks.

It's not always a death sentence.

Those are cases in the eyes of the public.

My mate Ted at 15 years old got nad cancer and he's still going 15 years later.

Others who I know who are older have survived and are living a good quality of life.

    Angelina Jolie is fine

    I'm sure there are others.

If you're in the late stages then yes maybe but not always if you're positive

  13. Hi. I can give you a first hand personal account about this. I returned to the UK after 13 years (for medical reasons) - prior to Thailand I had been in Brasil and so on, I had been out of the country a lot of years. I went to the local doctor's surgery to register myself and get an MOT done. They asked me for my NI number, which I know and my NHS number which I had no idea of. They just told me not to worry. I gave them the name and address of my previous doctor's - which was maybe 20 or more years ago and I was in. I had my check up (I had not told them the real reason I was back in the UK, just that I was back now) and put a few hints in "I go to pee a lot" etc, A couple of days after that I had a call asking me to go back in and they gave me the news I already knew about and 2 days after that I had my first hospital appointment! Since then I've had all sorts of tests including a bone scan and a half body MRI scan. I received an NHS card after about 6 weeks and also a prescription fee exempt card (because of the nature of my illness). I have a good amount of treatment in front of me including 4 to 12 weeks worth of every day treatment, nobody has batted an eyelid about my having not been in the country - although I did say I'd been back a couple of months (which I had). The NHS quality of service has been incredibly good and I have had no questions, That's my experience, I hope this helps you make your choice?

Great post and thanks for sharing.

    I hope you're better now.

I don't need the services at the moment but I do think although it is talked about every so often it needs to be brought up again and again.

People just don't know what they are and aren't allowed to do (read get away with). If a google search helps an expat out from any country they decide to live in with this thread then the repetitiveness of the subject is worth it.

It's OK if you're minted and you want to receive your medical here with your 5 star health insurance but this isn't always an option. People have a million and one different reasons for needing the NHS as an expat.

Keep up the good work people thumbsup.gif

@jambco984, you are allowed to post the link and the first couple of lines of the story.

There has been a NI Card as long as I can remember.

This issue, understandably, comes up on a regular basis, a good source of information is the Citizens Advice Website charges for people from abroad

These are a few of the relevant points:

Some hospital treatment is free of charge for everyone who needs it, regardless of how long they have been or intend to stay in the UK. This is:-

    • treatment for accidents and emergencies as an outpatient in a hospital’s accident and emergency department. In England and Wales, emergency treatment in a walk-in centre is also free of charge. However, if you are referred to an outpatient clinic or admitted to hospital from an accident and emergency department, you will be charged

You can receive free NHS hospital treatment if you:-

have come to the UK to take up permanent residence, for example, if you are a former UK resident who has returned from abroad, or if you have been granted leave to enter or remain as a spouse

Visitors who can sometimes receive NHS hospital treatment free of charge

You are entitled to free NHS hospital treatment if you are one of the following people and fall ill during your visit. You are not entitled to routine treatment for a pre-existing condition.

    • If you get a UK state retirement pension or another state benefit and normally live in a non-EEA country. You must have lived lawfully in the UK for at least ten years continuously in the past, or worked for the UK government for at least ten years continuously. Your spouse, civil partner and dependent children are also entitled to free NHS hospital treatment if they fall ill. They must be living with you throughout your stay in the UK

Thanks, I see someone else has actually posted the article that i read.

    Thanks for the CAB info.

  15. If you're not registered with a Dr. already, just go and do it.

People once resident have notes somewhere that can be pulled.

Any questions, tell them you've been in prison.

If you don't like this idea, the by all means pay if you feel guilty.

Love the straight to the point replies thumbsup.gif

You're right though. No one should feel guilty when there are millions of people claiming things they aren't entitled too.

  16. I just returned and registered. Havent really availed myself of the services too much.

    Just a few questions...

How long had you been away?

    Are you of retirement age?

Did they say you would have to wait 6 months to use the services or just allow you to start using as and when?

    Thanks

    thumbsup.gif

  17. I read that one has to have minimum 7 years contribution to get free nhs treatment, when you at retirement age.

I have checked many times, and as a non resident, and living in Thailand for 12 years, i am not allowed treatment, other than emergency, but chargeable for anything else.

Ah OK, I didn't read it like that. I read it as expats who have contributed 7 years, not pensioners. I'm looking for the official document if it has been published?

    Thanks for the input thumbsup.gif

  18. You are supposed to be resident for six months before you can use NHS.

    Thanks.

    I heard that before also.

It appears a bit of cheekyness (not a word) will go a long way.

What about this ruling that may or may not come in this year?

The 6 months thing is madness. Suppose I arrive home and get sick a week later. I'm meant to struggle until the 6 month period is over or go private.
