  1. So the missus and the family are from Sukhothai, fortunately not in a busy area but in the sticks, its peaceful and just the way I like it. But to ruin that I could do with some internet action (hi speed). I have a dtac aircard which is no use at the home.

If I walked into any of the providers whats the outcome?

Im asking with no knowledge of how it works over here. I know exactly what to do in the UK but things move in mysterious ways in the LOS.

Would they have to run a phone line the 10km from the nearest town or is there an easier solution. I say this as no one has a land line. If its going to cost a fortune then I'll forget the whole thing but if anyone has had any experience with a similar thing then I'd much appreciate some positive sharing.

Not just calling me a wally and the likes for not knowing.

    Thanks in advance

  2. So just a quick description I think it's all it requires, if not please quiz me more.

Both parents over 50 living in the UK have money, not endless amounts but they do alright.

Do both of them have to apply for a retirement visa or just 1 and the other applies for a non-o or some other type?

What other things do they need? Documents etc...

I'm not clear on what's what so I've come to the people in the know ;-)

    Thanks in advance

Where did you get the application form?

Was it just a generic download from TV or one specific for the KL Embassy?

    TIA

You have enough time if you arrive in good time to get one off the guy on the security gate. I asked for the form and proceeded to take one, "I WILL GIVE YOU, WHEN I READY"

He took down my passport details then handed me my application form whilst looking at me like a piece of dirt, love you too I muttered.

You can also download and print from the website I mention in a previous post ;-)

    Thank you

  4. On www.mfa.go.th it tells you exactly what you need.

It tells you to provide a copy and the original. They give you the original straight back after a quick (and I mean quick) look.

Took the missus with me thought it good ammunition but the lady never batted an eye lid, next time Ill save the cash and spend it on something useful.

The missus writing a letter is only a sweetner but It probably has something about it as she kept both the Thai and English copies of the, please let my husband stay with me etc..... and I never got it back.

    Happy to help.

Thanks for the write up and pin to the "Latest reports of getting a visa in the region" this section of TV helped me a lot.

    Thank you

    Darren

  5. So Im sat in KLIA waiting for my flight so I thought I would make the most of this time by reporting my findings.

Flew on Friday from BKK to KLCC.

Takes an hour to get to KL Sentral by SKYBUS which is offered by Air Asia at a reduced price to buying your ticket when you arrive.

Booked in at the My Hotel - Sentral, for a reduced price of 94 RM instead of 98 RM, its worth checking out asiawebdirect website for deals on hotels.

Anywhoo. I wont bore you with my weekend as it consisted of the sh**s and not a good look come Monday morning for visa application time.

Monday morning - Got up about 8am, headed out looking and feeling like death. Went to KL Sentral station, took the KL Red line or RapidKL skytrain. Arrived at Ampang Park station at about 9am (Not far).

Keep to the right when you come out of the underground area. Look for Jalan Ampang (Name of the road and sign in the underground points it out).

When you get to street level theres a Mcdonalds, 7eleven, coffee shop etc. Walk past them all, cross the busy main road.

You will go past the French embassy on your left, the British High Commission office on the right. A little futher on your left is the Spanish embassy and then finally you will arrive at the Thai embassy. Maybe with broken legs or ankles as the walkways are pretty awful.

BE CAREFUL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

So by this point I look like Ive just stepped out of the shower fully dressed and the fever aint budging. I go into the embassy take my number and find a seat.

    I provided the following -

    • Application Form.
    • Copy of my passport photo page only.
    • Wifes ID (Copy)
    • Wifes passport (Copy - Why the hell not, all looks good)
    • Copy of Ta bien Ban (House details)
    • A letter from the wife written in English and Thai - Please let my husband stay.
    • 2 X Passport sized pictures
    • Copy of my ONLINE bank statement from UK bank printed out in Bangkok stating I had 100,000 baht or equivalent (No copy of bank book needed)

SO as I provided all these things and asked is everything OK, the answer YES is said by the charming young Malaysian lady.

When I handed over my 550 RM (approx 5,500 baht)

"But why you give me so much? 1 stay is only .... RM?"

    I followed up with,

"But I'm staying for a year"

"You need copy bankbook, you have bank in Thailand"

"No I dont, I need my visa to open the bank, I have UK bank details showing £2500 approximately 120,000 baht".

    SILENCE

I presume she just didnt understand, changed my application to a multiple entry, gave me my ticket number back for collection the next afternoon. Leaving me to sweat it out for just over 24 hours with no indication as to whether it was a successful application or Id just been nailed for 550 RM.

    FEAR NOT......

Arrived at the embassy at 2.30pm. Very quick turn around of issuing passports.

No explanation of anything, opened the passport up and there was my new visa.

I take it the people in charge read my documents and realised all was good.

Embassy opens at 9.30am be early or go around 10-10.30am when it calms down. - Applications.

Embassy opens at 2.30pm for collections no problems quick turn around.

If I can help with anything let me know?

    Thank you

  6. 27 club, end of chat.

Waste of a life but not suprising really. Out lived her sell by date. Been coming for a long time.

On the other side of this,

RIP - Find some piece wherever you are now

  7. Any suggestions on other plans of action if internet banking is a bit iffy, surely every year if i wanted to i could change my records to read i have funds in the bank even if i possibly didnt?

Is puttng money into the missus account ok or would that just look like her money, even though were married things seem to work in mysterious ways.

    My head hurts.

Thank you for your suggestions, all are digested and taken onboard and 100% apreciated.

  8. Oh well, the weekend is nearly over so Im sure we have all managed to avoid the shakes, or as some folks say, drink at home.

I agree with the tourist element, if you look like a farrang there should be NO PROMPEM as we are forever told.

The Thai phrase of UPTO YOU.... seems to only be in action when it suits.

  9. How much money do you have? If you can meet the 40k monthly income or 400k in Thai bank requirement there is no need to visit any Consulate as you can convert to non immigrant visa entry at Immigration for 2k and then extend for one year for 1.9k. If unable to do that but have 100k in an account somewhere you can obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from KL (as it seems you are checking) for about 5k (plus overnight trip) that only requires a departure/return every 90 days. For that the marriage certificate/wife ID card/wife home register copies signed/dated by her is the normal requirement at Embassy (plus photos and filling out local form). It should only take five minutes to fill out the form so would not worry about doing early.

I have enough in Thailand for the 100k option, I can make about 40k legally afterwards when I can teach as offered a job just need to get all my docs sorted first, if the job falls through I will still have a year on my visa and on my terms and not screwed by a possibly clueless school, I dont know them well enough to fully trust yet.....

By having 100k in an account somewhere does that mean if its not possible for me to find a bank (tourist visa) will the money in the missus account be ok? Or can I show an account in the UK with £2200 in it?

Filling the form in at the Embassy sounds good to me, just over analzye and worry too much, cant be doing with many messing around trips out of the country.

    Thanks for your help.

  10. Hello there and good evening, an excellent breakdown of costs and a summary i will try and use to the letter.I have a few questions if its possible you could answer, or anyone else who has a clue. Many thanks in advance......

Im on a multiple entry tourist visa at the moment, due my second visa run in early August, Ive been married for 4 months when this date will come around, we live together and have been together over a year. Is ths ok and will get me a non imm o visa. I have money and all the other bits and bobs.

Do I need the paperwork for her parents home?

Does the missus have to come or are you ok alone with all paper work? (Would prefer to do it on a budget.)

Do the embassy staff have enough English to help someone with hardly any spoken Thai language skills?

Where the devil can I download an application form? The Kuala Lumpur embassy sites always seem to be down? Any alternatives.

Thank you again I hope its not too many questons and someone can clue me up.

    Regards

    Darren
