  1. To TS79 again,

Can you really use USB (or even esata) to connect to a computer?

I find it impossible to watch (or even copy) any recorded programs except thru Truevision's PVR.

I was hoping to take the Orico on the road and watch via my laptop.

Incidentally, my experiments did not lead to unintentionally wiping my recordings, so no damage done.

The recordings from UBC that are stored on your external drive are in a format that cannot be read by a PC. The hardware you bought (HDD and docking station) can be used to connect to a PC but not to extract the saved TV programmes.

  2. Think that you're talking about a hole saw (concrete specific), not a drill bit. Example here, but don't know where you would actually get one:

Yup, a hole saw just like that. Probably pretty expensive to buy for just 1 hole. I only mentioned drill bit if I was drilling the circumference to knock through but would rather not do it that way.

  3. @ LIK

Doesn't need to be 100mm but certainy bigger than 60mm (kind of drink coaster size). I'm relocating a CCTV DVR with loads of coax cables that need passing through the hole.

    @ Old Croc

I didn't want to take the drilling loads of small holes route as it is very messy and would like a clean cut hole. The two skins are probably 20 - 25cm total depth so would need a long drill bit also or drill from both sides.

    @Phuketsub

Cheers, I'll see if I can find a number and ask them.

  4. Not the type readily available in Soi Paradise!

I need to drill a 100mm hole through a double skin concrete wall and need a pretty heavy duty cutter to do it. I only need 1 hole so don't really want to fork out to buy one. I guess I could phone an Air Con shop as they use these tools to make the holes for the pipes through the wall but is a bit cheeky and they probably wouldn't be interested in a few hundred baht only.

Any ideas? Anyone have one I could borrow for an hour? I'm in Kathu.

  5. to Bulshy and others,

" a quick call to TrueVisions to activate the PVR service"; not so quick for me. I cannot make out what numbers they want, are they saying 'serial number', 'enclosure number' or what, and where do I find them?

I have Orico 2598 with cables and Seagate 1 TB sata.

    goutngrump

When I activated my PVR by calling TrueVisions I didn't have to give them any information other than my True Vision account number. What HDD and enclosure you have is of no concern to them.

(unless they are getting pi$$ed off that no-one is using their expensive HDD).

  6. Looks a neat little device.

The obvious question, if I may, where did you find it ?

Found it in an electrical trade shop in Phuket Town callled Yeun Yong, price 480 baht (incuding the base).

  7. The lessee must pay the first 1,000 baht of damage.

The lessee must pay any costs not covered by the insurance.

If the lessee causes the jet-ski to sink or capsize, the lessee must pay 3,000 baht to the lessor for flushing the engine.

Where the jet ski needs repair due to a collision or accident, the lessee must pay 3,000 baht per day for loss of income to the lessor, up to a total of 15,000 baht.

It doesn't sound like a very good insurance policy for the Lessee !

  8. Hope it improves the Asian beers. Heineken is a much better beer than Singha, Chang, Tiger or Leo, but unfortunately that is reflected in the price.

Personal tastes vary - Heineken is the second last one I would drink with Chang, Leo, Singha coming before it. Tiger beer, however (in my opinion only) is the worst of the lot and gives me killer hangovers from relatively little consumption.

  9. I know it doesn't help you being in Chonburi, but for a cost comparison I'm in Phuket, and I get 25Kg of Calcium Chloride for 700 baht. Any decent pool shop should carry it though.

Phuket is fine as none of the shops here ( i checked four) carry it. Please post the name and number of the shop?

    thanks in advance

No problem, hope they can help. Let us know if they will post.

  10. Thanks Moracot - yes you cant get double glazing out here so I thought I would try to get a car window film company to come and put some film on you have any other ideas?

There are plenty of double glazing firms in Thailand who will travel to install. I had a firm in BKK install ours in the South.

  11. Go the your local pharmacy and buy a 500 mL bottle of rubbing alcohol (40 baht) and use it together with either a microfibre or lint free cloth. Works great

Agree, but I use an alcohol swab or 2 and then a buff with lint free cloth. Great on the keyboard too.

  12. It doesn't matter what HDD it is, whatever brand you prefer as long as its SATA / eSATA. I got a Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 0F15632, the dock is a cheap OKER DK-U2. All cables came with the dock.

All from a little PC shop in Big C Phuket.
