  1. Thought I might as well update on Songkran in Bangkok...

Yesterday I had a second brilliant day, and was dancing in the streets with all the Thai people and everything was going great until a young Thai teenage boy was shot about 4 metres from where we were dancing/standing on Rambuttri, next to Khao San Road.

It appeared to be gang related as the boy who was shot in the stomach passed a massive kitchen knife to another boy and a gang of boys went running towards the shooter...

Very sad and dangerous. I saw the boy who was shot in the stomach get up and run off holding a bleeding gun shot wound in his stomach... He looked no older than 18 - 19. :(

  2. Whilst they have tried to enforce the rule of no throwing water from pick ups, it clearly isn't working and people are ignoring it as I saw loads of pick ups yesterday loaded with people throwing water.

I spent Songkran near Khao San and Soi Rambuttri. It was crazy, but I'm not an old grumpy fart so I was all for it. ;) I didn't see any trouble at all this year which was good and Khao San was much more tame this year than it was last year. At one point I thought there was going to be a crush because there was so many people.

Got soaked to the skin, loved every minute of it and was out till after dark.

In my opinion, Songkran only happens once a year so might as well make the most of it and have fun. I don't condone the water throwing from pick ups or throwing ice cold water at motorists on the roads but a waterfight is all in light hearted spirits.

I did chuckle seeing a few old tourists walking around Soi Rambuttri kind of expecting to stay dry and they were angry and furious when someone wet them! Grumpy faces are priceless. :P

  3. I buy my fruit and veg from more local places, however home foreign food comforts I buy at Villa. Yes, it's more expensive but it's imported so what do you expect? I have always found the fruit and veg in Villa to be expensive though.

  4. Seriously... Where the hell do you meet these kind of people?!

I'm guessing this is a troll post but if not then I have no words...

Grow up and stop getting involved with such weird psycho low class people in Thailand.

  5. I'm pretty sure the list can apply to both sexes and go both ways. coffee1.gif

Also to be honest, most of the things on that list I would not want my partner to do, so I kind of agree with it. I think if you want to do these things, then you're not really in a serious and committed relationship.

But I wouldn't post something like this on my FB.

  6. What Thai meals/food/snacks do you recommend eating that are relatively low in calories?!

The one problem I have with Thailand is that I never know how many calories each meal contains when I go to a restaurant and the language barrier proves difficult sometimes.

I'm trying to tone up and lose weight and I'm on a strict calorie counting thing but I never know how many calories are in most food unless I cook the meals myself, which I do most of the time, but what about when I go out to eat?

Thought we could start this thread to share our little finds and give tips on healthier low calorie eating.

    My contribution...

Popped rice crackers - These are called Snack A Jacks in the UK and there's a whole other range of brands in Villa Market, but I also noticed some rice crackers in Tops and gourmet supermarket in BKK and these are home made and Thai branded therefore much cheaper than Villa Market. These are nice as a snack or light lunch with a topping.

  7. not to slag the OP and I do realise that these shoes are a fashion accessory but Dr Martens are the most uncomfortable footwear I have ever worn...

on a project site in Pluit, north Jakarta within 30 minutes I was hobbled with pain...and I had tried them at the shop...

I complained to my then wife who is a londoner and who had 2 pairs in her wardrobe and she said: 'get <snip>, will ye...ye <snip> yanks think that you know everything...'...she kicked me once in a drunken rage with her 'docs' on and that did significant damage...and I said: 'I'm gonna show yer mum what you did...' and she then said with deadly seriousness: 'if you do you won't live to see the next sunrise...'

believe it or not we remained a married couple for nearly 10 years...but not 'happily'....

I wear Doc Martens pretty much 90% of the time when I'm not working and they are the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. However some models need breaking in properly.

The 1914 Triumph series are a good model as the leather is very soft and seems to take to your feet quickly. :)

I've seen several Doc Marten outlets in Bangkok, however they are all quite expensive... I bought mine from the UK as it was cheaper.

I don't think you're going to find real genuine ones for less than 5,000 baht in Thailand.

  8. I notice that everyone is quick to attack the OP when she has done everything that has been asked to do.

From reading all the posts, it becomes clear to me that the government are trying to delay the paperwork due to the high turnover that the pharmacy has gained since being taken over. This is corruption.

    Oh Thailand... rolleyes.gif

I hope everything gets sorted with the pharmacy! My guess is the police know you're married to a farang cause of your surname and have taken this opportunity to squeeze some cash out of you because "you must be rich as you're married to a farang"
