1 hour ago, Encore said:I do not think the background is relevant but can elaborate. In the 3 months leading up the arrest, some neighbours would shout abuse as I came and went on my motorbike. I was pushed and shoved on occasions and actually punched once. My house was entered 3-4 times with doors and windows left open while I was out (which I considered could be a precursor to a robbery). I tried to report this to the police but they were not concerned. The new neighbours also made false complaints to the landlord saying I was a nuisance even though I led a quiet life alone. I can only believe that these actions were orchestrated because my Thai neighbours did not wish to have a foreigner living on the street.About a week before the arrest, my Thai next door neighbour (who had not previously spoken to me) offered me food while I was sat on the verandah. I thanked him but, after eating, I became dizzy, nauseous and tired so drank salt water to make myself vomit and then went to the hospital. I was checked, given medicine and told that I had a bad case of food poisoning.A few days later my Thai neighbour came home drunk and saw me on my verandah. I was having a drink and cleaning cigarette burn marks from an outdoor table. After some unprovoked verbal abuse he turned a water hose on me, threw large potted plants at me, broke down my front sliding car gate and then came to attack me with a long metal rod. Someone called the police who accused me of attacking the man and forcibly arrested me.When I was arrested, the police would not even let me take my wallet and phone or secure my house and left the front door open. As I was taken away in handcuffs, many of my Thai neighbours were streaming into the house. I guess some things were stolen and everything else was later, apparently, removed from the house by the house owner. The police also removed my expensive shoes and a belt which were never returned.I think I must be living in another Thailand than you...
Never even heard of such continuous, unprovoked, open abuse and violence like you describe. It seems the story is missing a whole lot of details from the opposing side.- 4

They didn't pay this themself, this was either paid through the compulsary insurance of the bike or through the 30 THB scheme.
Compulsory insurance pays nothing up front, they will only pay within 7 days after receiving the claim.
30 Baht scheme may not apply in case of private hospitals. There is a regulation that emergency patients have to be treated at any hospital, private or state, for the first 72 hours but I'm not sure if a CT would necessarily be covered under emergency treatment.

You could have a look on Facebook Marketplace, there's a huge number of used motorcycles available. I've got a Yamaha Mio there last year. But better to have someone speaking Thai to make contact, since >90% are Thai speaking sellers only.

Where is the data saved too ?
It would be nice if it was to LINEs websiteOn Android, it's saved to your Google Drive.
And to your question on having it on two phones: Not possible. LINE allows usage on multiple computers but only one mobile device.

My wife has a secondary card, with an appropriately sized credit limit. Never had an issue. Also my son has one since he turned 16.
I guess it depends on the circumstances, as always. If there's a problem with spending and accountability using cash already, you're only inviting more trouble with a credit card, allowing to spend money that's not there.

At the moment, AIS will provide 50% discount for one year for current customers of other ISPs changing to AIS Fibre. Just changed from 3BB to AIS and I'm very happy with it, getting more for less.

I've had the same experience with Grab Taxis cancelling, on one occasion so close that I watched him drive past. I've given up on using them.
Will use them again if the driver rating system operates from the point the fare is accepted, then if cancelled you can rate the driver one star.
I'll usually report them to support. Not sure it really helps but feels better than just accepting their behavior.
-
I feel that Grab has declined in quality. Now I frequently encounter drivers cancelling on me without any cause or notice. Also, I have seen drivers coming up with an excuse ("I need 30 mins to your location" when the app shows 5 mins) to get me to cancel instead of them. I kinda miss Uber.

Maybe different rules for different offices but I didn’t have pink card or yellow book when applying
That was SSO Office for District 8, Srinakarin Road. I can't speak for any other office, but they insisted this is a general requirement. They also said the pink ID card needs to be used to obtain service at the hospitals, which was the case for me at Sirindhorn Hospital. Other members have also confirmed this requirement earlier.

I paid last month Jan
So need to set up from Feb as I retire on the 7th of Feb
Right?
You have six months from the employment termination date. However, be aware that you need the pink ID card to apply, for which in turn you need the yellow house register. Also, you have to have a non-O visa first before applying. It's a bit of work but considering the cost, SSO is really good to have as a backup.

Hard to believe that If you miss a single month's payment during the course of your retirement you lose everything. Or do you mean that we can't miss the first payment immediately after starting retirement, in other words the transition payment.
You can't miss more than 3 payments in a row or 3 payments within 12 months.

I am also interested in this topic. I have a good idea about UK companies and the UK markets but want to look further here. More information on Maybank in the way of feedback from the users above would be welcomed. I also would appreciate any feedback on how things go with regards to income tax on dividends and sales (hopefully profits) if already in possession of a work permit and paying the higher tax bracket on income. Any pointers or links would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.
Capital gains are exempt from personal income tax if the shares sold are of a public company registered on the Thailand stock exchange.

Open a TISCO trading account...had one for years. Trade online or go to the Tisco building, Sathorn Road and monitor the wall displays for price movements and trade there. https://tiscoetrade.settrade.com/tisco2/pre_logged_in/page/openAccount.jsp
0.157% for online cash trades (<5M THB) is quite high.

Great advice actually. Let his partner go do some legwork, learn about the economics and logistics and legalities and come back with his/her findings report. Nothing wrong with helping the partner get going but why not use her nationality and language skills in his/her home country to get the ball rolling? To many Thai wives know the phrase "buy me this" but not enough know how to say "how do we work on this to make it happen together". My wife has two successful businesses that were created with my primary financial start up support but team goal setting and effort and her hard work made them successful. She is now self sustaining and if had more time could repeat her success elsewhere. I have watched dozens of businesses fail around her from farangs handing over cash to girls to open salons and restaurants who don't know shit about hair or food. If you want to help your partner eat, teach her to fish.
I called it a lame response because he puts a lot of assumptions in his one sentence: "your wife's shop", "she'll be running it", "you paying the bills". It may or may not be the case. There's zero value for OP in his reply except to show his arrogance.

As this is your wife's store and she will be running it (but you paying the bills) then get her to find about all the details

You can extend your social security coverage under Section 39 with the pink card if you no longer work and want to pay into the system independently.
I needed to get a pink card to to do this.
Same here. That is the only really useful advantage compared to a driving license in my experience. That's why I never applied for it before.
The driving license is even more useful as it mentions your passport number.

Health insurance mandatory for long-stay foreigners in Thailand

The important question for me is whether they'll accept their own Social Security insurance scheme (self-payer under Section 39) for this purpose.
That would be a sustainable option compared to the horrendous private insurance premiums after retirement here, when no longer covered by company insurance.
